After a forgettable first game, Tigers looked much better in the South Region Classic, beating NC Wesleyan by 13 (who beat Shenandoah by 17 today) and defeating Mary Washington by 5. H-SC shot well over 50% in both of these games, 53% vs. Mary Washington and 62% vs. NC Wesleyan. Strong shot defense as well, NC Wesleyan shot just 29%, Mary Washington 35%.

Tigers still struggling with turnovers, defensive rebounding, and free throws. H-SC did better with the turnovers and defensive rebounds today against Mary Washington. I'm sure these will be a point of emphasis in practice going forward.

Congrats to Josh Merkel on getting his first win as R-MC head coach. Ironically it was over Frostburg State who gave the Jackets one of their two regular season losses last year.
Watched both games this weekend, great improvement from game one to game two.  Lots of talent, but Coach is trying lots of combinations, as no starting lineup is set yet.  Several freshmen are playing lots of minutes and seem to be challenging for more playing time.  This team could be very good by the end of the season.

The young Royals picked up two wins over the weekend at Marymount's tournament.  Looks like there is some young talent.  They will take some lumps and make some mistakes, but seems like they might be a team that spoils a few ODAC opponents seasons.  http://www.emuroyals.com/sports/mbkb/2015-16/releases/20151122w9sznl

Sounds like there may be quite a few "young" teams in the ODAC this season. R-MC started three freshmen a junior and the lone senior on Saturday and Sunday.

Good to hear the Tigers looked better. Good come back after being taken to the wood shed on their home court by AU.
I hope the Tigers can improve in odac play this year and stop the trend of finishing near the middle of the pack. Been too long since we actually competed for the title. Hopefully that will happen soon.

Looks like you called it right.

As an alum from the late 1960s I wish the "free" video feed were better. I made some noise on here a few years ago about R-MC offering only pay per view live streaming. I was pleased when they moved to a free option but it makes me sad that the quality is so poor (and the volume so low) and that people have to pay to upgrade to an HD feed. So I went to the W&L free feed of the women's game instead which was excellent and I had no problem hearing the announcers. I know there are schools that can't afford to offer live, high quality, streaming of athletic events for free, but I don't believe R-MC is one of them. Most of the schools in the conference I follow out here in the midwest don't have foundations to support their athletic programs and many of them offer no video feed at all, or if they do there is a charge, which I understand.

Chances are Macon is doing it to earn easy revenue, not to afford the ability to do the webcasting. We generated over $600 of revenue from people doing the HD upgrade for football, and you know how much more work it required compared to when we had a strictly free stream? Basically zero. Every other fundraising effort, above and beyond what is already done, would require significantly more hours of work, which the vast majority of D3 sports information departments lack the manpower and/or time to do.

Other than still a large number of turnovers (19 to be exact), the Tigers pretty much put on an offensive clinic against William Peace tonight. 89 points, shot 62% overall, 71% (10-14) from three, and made over 70% of their free throws. 20 assists on 31 made baskets as well. Since that Averett game where it seemed like we couldn't throw it in the ocean from the beach, H-SC has shot 59% overall and 56% from three combined against NC Wesleyan, Mary Wash, and William Peace.

For a school that's doing so many things right. in athletics, admissions, academics and development, this should be fixed.  I think Marty and Co, are the best D3 announcers and they deserve better as well.

^^^ CMR, thanks for the support. hscathletics, I'm not entirely clear on whether you are agreeing with me or not. It seems obvious that R-MC is using the "pay to upgrade" as a way to generate a little revenue for the department. And I get that the extra $600.00 H-SC generated was essentially all "profit" and easier than trying to net that $600.00 in some other way. I also agree that most D3 athletic departments don't have the time and manpower to do a lot of fundraising. But my point is that R-MC's is not one of those departments. It seems to me that the school has a well-oiled and successful fundraising machine, including for the athletic department, and might, therefore, be able to afford to offer higher definition live streaming without asking viewers to pay. It might result in even greater alumni loyalty, which is already pretty high when it comes to annual giving.

Already 2 losses in this young season for VWC! I hope those boys weren't smelling themselves after being ranked #2 in the preseason. Can't remember the last time VWC had 2 losses after 4 games.  That post-thanksgiving practice will be such a joy for the players lol I'm sure they'll bounce back though. They had 3 losses in their 1st 5 games during their national championship season  8-)

EMU traveled across town to play an exhibition game with James Madison last night.  While the talent gap was evident, from all accounts the Royals acquitted themselves fairly well against the Dukes. http://www.emuroyals.com/sports/mbkb/2015-16/releases/20151124yd7y3b

Averett is 3-1 against the ODAC so far this season after today's win over R-MC (also beat Guilford and H-SC and lost to VWC). They still have games against Bridgewater, EMU, Lynchburg, and Randolph.

R-MC only shot six free throws (and made two) to Averett's 21 (14 made). The personal foul disparity wasn't terribly unbalanced -- 18 called on the Jackets to 12 on Averett. Otherwise the stats show a pretty even game -- including 64% 3 point shooting for the Jackets.

The Jacket's offense is doing well, but the defense is suffering, need more interior defense.  I'd get some bigger, taller bodies in the middle.  The difference in this game was the 16 offense rebounds by AU.
