All conference teams now have at least one loss as HSC defeats RC 100-92 at Roanoke.  Interested to see the results from other conference games tonight.

Interesting article indeed, and interesting that he recognizes and admits his shortcoming at R-MC. And since he has done so I will share something. I was back in Ashland in 2007 (I think) for that tournament between Christmas and New Years. At halftime of the R-MC game the Jackets led by nearly 20 points. I went to the restroom, which was right next to the men's locker room and heard Rhoades screaming at his players at the top of his lungs. I could not understand what he was upset about. The Jackets had played a great first half. Three years later, in the fall of 2010, I drove over to Crawfordsville, IN when the Jackets played in a Thanksgiving tournament at Wabash College. It was Nathan Davis' 2nd season as coach. I met and chatted with some parents of Jacket players and asked about the new coach. All the parents said the players liked him and one of them volunteered the comment "he doesn't yell at them". I knew exactly what that meant.

We hadn't heard anything similar about Mike Rhoades, but knew that he was very high energy in everything he did so certainly not surprised by your observation.  It takes a big man to admit that he went overboard & that it cost his team some victories.  Always been a big fan of his & always will be!
GO OWLS!!!

^^^ I agree that it's a great sign of lessons learned to acknowledge past shortcomings. I'm sure Mike Rhoades will continue to improve the Rice men's basketball program and I wish him much success.

Has to be the weirdest streak.  Anyone else know of a team that lost three games in a row by two points each?  The Royals are so young, hope they don't get discouraged.  http://www.emuroyals.com/sports/mbkb/2015-16/releases/20160113yj4gbf

Quakers (10-5, 5-1) jumped out to a 12-0 lead over the SU Hornets (3-12, 0-6) yesterday and then played even the rest of the game for an 81-69 ODAC victory.  Senior Will Freeman added 18 to support a team high 20 by Trever Hyatt.  A couple of big scorers for Shenandoah (Malcolm Clark had 32), but not a lot of firepower from others.

Another swarm of Hornets on Wednesday, Jan. 20 as Lynchburg visits Ragan-Brown at 7 pm.

Saw the W&L vs. HSC game over the weekend. Teams played hard. Not sure I saw a lot of good basketball but we'll take the victory. On to the next game. I believe Tigers are on the road for the next two and road games are never easy.

^ even home games are not easy this season!

GO JACKETS!!!!

Really enjoyed listening to A.D. Jeff Burns on the mic for the R-MC game against EMU tonight. I learned a lot about how coaches think strategically at various situations in the game. Not taking anything away from Andrew who is great. Good win for the Jackets.

Sounds like the Tigers stole one last nite in Harrisonburg. Good come back and good win on the road. EMU has lost a lot of close games. If they get to the tourney, look for them to pull an upset or two.

Literally and figuratively stole that game. Down 7 with 30 seconds left, and then a steal with 4.2 seconds left that resulted in two free throws with only 1.8 seconds to play.

Five of their seven ODAC losses have been in overtime and/or have been one-possession games. If all those freshmen and sophomores can find a way to make on or two more "winning" plays soon they have a good chance to finish the season on a high note and give themselves some momentum heading into the offseason. And you have to think a bit more luck will eventually go their way in these games as well!

I hope Coach Dean can keep this group motivated and together.  I guess I jinxed them by mentioning the 2 point losses.  Now they lose by one.  Still has to be a good future for this team if they stay together and learn from this tough streak.

As I said, if EMU can get to the odac tourney, no team is going to want to play them.
Same can be said for E&H. They are very competitive this year. Top of the conference is down, but the bottom 4 are much improved. In other words, parity abounds in the odac this year. We'll see if the winner can make a run in the ncaa, certainly the winner will be use to competitive games.

For anyone interested in how the various D3 conferences are faring against teams from other D3 conferences, see below. There are 44 D3 conferences but I have only listed the top 15. The ODAC has moved up a bit from 13 to 11. I think even earlier in the season they were around 16. I think these standings can be skewed somewhat in how they reflect overall conference strength because there is a big difference in how many such games are played by each conference, which is of course influenced by how many teams there are in a conference and how many conference games get played. For example you can see that the NESCAC has played 129 games against non-conference D3 opponents while the MIAC has played only 52. Still, an interesting barometer of how conferences compare to one another.

Credit to my friend hopefan who does all the work to track this.
