Did you see HSC play over the weekend ? If so, tell me they are not as bad as the results indicate they might be.

Good luck to your Quakers. Sounds like they are off and running.

Hopefully the ODAC winner will have a successful run deep into the tourney this year.
Hey, tfa2.  Yes, I did see the Tigers twice:  a 20-point loss to Huntingdon and a 3-point win over Concordia (TX).  I also know HSC lost an earlier game to Averett, 80-66.  The Tigers are young ... many times I saw HSC with 3 first year players on the court, which led me to believe the coach is playing more for the future than this season, but he knows his personnel and I don't.  Although the Tigers have some height, I think they will be outrebounded and lose the inside game to really physical teams.  I think 12-15 wins is a nice goal for the youthful Tigers and they will mature in the second half of the season ... even at the DIII level, it is a big jump from HS to college.

William & Mary 103 to 54 over Shenandoah.

From AP ...

QuoteMilon scores 17, Tribe has 20 3s, William & Mary wins 103-54

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) — Matt Milon led the way with 17 points on five 3-pointers, David Cohn had 11 assists, six players reached double figures and 13 saw floor time as William & Mary danced past Division III Shenandoah 103-54 Tuesday night.

Shooting 54 percent on the night (37-68) and making 20 of 32 3-point shots, the Tribe (2-2) led this one by 30 at the half. Connor Burchfield added 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting, all from 3-point range, Nathan Knight and Paul Rowley scored 12 apiece, Jihar Williams 11 and Justin Pierce 10.

The Hornets (1-2) had 16 players see minutes with Avery White and Alan Dabney's eight points apiece leading the scorers.

William & Mary outrebounded the smaller Shenandoah 50-34, blocked nine shots — Knight with three — and racked up 27 assists. Cohn's assists were one shy of his career best 12 last January against Hofstra.

An 0-10 stretch from the field over seven minutes in the second half and R-MC nearly coughs up a 16 point lead over Ferrum. Fortunately they right the ship and score again with a 4 point lead and go on to win by 13. Gotta go to Roanoke on Wednesday. That will be a good win if the Jackets can get it, but it will be tough.

I was on ODAConline for something today and pulled up the Men's Basketball Standings. W&L is currently leading the ODAC at 1-0. I should take a snapshot of this moment since Guilford looms in a few days...

What happened to H-SC's basketball program? From NCAA contender to getting shelled by W&L. That isn't pretty.

You've asked the million dollar question; what the hell has happened to the HSC b'ball program. Once was so good and has been average to below average for a long while. Don't have answers but I hope someone does.

VWU is now 4-0 in this young season. The Marlins look fast and athletic like normal but they seem to be a lot bigger than in the past. They return only 1 starter from last years team but do bring back key contributors including Khalil Barnette(Lone returning starter), Keijon Honore, Corey white and Lamont Steward to go along with 3 freshmen who have been getting playing time early in the season. ODAC coaches will become very familiar with the name tyree Golston. The Freshmen is averaging 12 ppg right now. I think he will be the next special Marlin guard that Macedo has brought in. Reminds me of a mix of Ton ton Balenga and Khory Moore. Big game for the marlins this Wednesday vs Lynchburg

Dare I start to dream about W&L basketball? "The win was W&L's first at Guilford since a 59-50 victory over the Quakers on Dec. 3, 2003"

^^^That was a high scoring game. If the Generals win more maybe we'll hear more from you??

Good shooting night for R-MC at Roanoke. Starters are 16 of 24 from the field, the team as a whole 53% including 13 of 27 3s. If Daniel Noe hits more than one of his nine shots the percentage would be even higher and the win margin larger. Solid performance from the bench in spite of Noe's tough night.

I'm pretty sure that reading the box score stretches my ability to write intelligently about basketball. You might get some silly excited posts as I'd like to see the basketball teams do well after so long, but I'm unlikely to post anything remotely insightful or analytical since I simply have no clue!

Looks like Macedo may have got these boys back to playing Marlin basketball! VWU (ha, not VWC anymore) jumped out to a big halftime lead and was up handily with about 2 mins to go until Lynchburg made a run vs the VW reserves. I was interested in seeing how this team would perform vs a Lynchburg team who has been pretty up and down this year outside of the Norfolk State win, and it seems the Marlins came to play. With a pretty young team too. 5 games in the Marlins rotation looks to be about 10-11 players deep with only 2 of those players being seniors who don't even lead the team in minutes. If these guys can stay consistent, watch out. I think going into Salisbury and pulling out that W and starting out 1-0 in the ODAC after beating Lynchburg shows this team is capable of playing some good ball. The month of December is gonna tell us more about this team. They play NC Wesleyan & Greensboro in NC, face Averett, Roanoke, CNU and travel to Mary Washington. Obviously the ODAC games are most important but if they are able to pull out 4, or maybe 5 wins in this stretch, I think we might be on the way to seeing the VWC (darn it, I meant VWU) that we're used to! #GoMarlins

Yes VWU is back to playing Marlin basketball. Last couple of years they were very good offensively but needed to outscore teams. This VWU team plays extremely hard and together on the Defensive end of the court and they have some play makers.  Corey Pelham (freshmen from N.VA) hit 5 threes last night for the Marlins. Lamont Steward a sophmore guard for the Marlins is bug and athletic. 6'6 guards do not come often in the ODAC. KId has a chance to be very special. I'm looking forward to the ODAC season but hope ODAC can dominate the non-conference games like they use to from 2004-2012. No ODAC teams in the top 25 is not a great look. I remember when I played and coached At VWC there was 2-4 teams in the top 25 each year.

y_jack_lok

Six ODAC teams in non-conference games today go 3-3. Wins for HSC over #23 Emory, VWU over NC Wesleyan, and W&L over Ferrum. Losses by Roanoke to Methodist, EMU to Averett, and Randolph to Maryville (TN). In conference only games RMC beats Lynchburg, E&H beats Shennandoah, and Guilford beats Bridgewater. VWU and E&H are both undefeated. RMC has won five in a row after losing its opener and W&L has won four straight after losing its first two games.

jmill07

Should be some room in the Top 25 this week for several ODAC teams....with several games to go tonight with ranked teams, six have lost today...No. 3 Williams, No. 6 Marietta, No. 17 Christopher Newport, No. 22 Bowdoin, No. 23 Emory and No. 25 Wooster.  VWU is now 7-0, Emory & Henry is 5-0 and Randolph-Macon is 5-1....all three should be considered

y_jack_lok

^^^ I think we'll see RMC get more votes than last week and maybe crack the top 25. VWU will likely also start to appear on some ballots, W&L probably not. Guilford started the season at #18 but only had a few points in the ORV group last week and will probably be off all ballots this week.

jknezek

I'd kind of like to see W&L in the ORV section because it would force the SID to figure if/when that has happened before. I know they had to dig for the last time W&L started 2-0 in ODAC play after the Guilford game. FYI... it was the late 80s.
