Roanoke loses at home to Guilford tonight 77-65. The game was close until around the 6 minute mark in the first half when Guilford went on a big run to end the first half. Roanoke just got dominated at every position tonight, hopefully they can turn it around when they play at Bridgewater  :o on Saturday.
I watched online tonight ... decided against making a two-hour drive to Salem from Greensboro with roads still iffy.  Guilford played well tonight ... had not seen RC this season, but they seemed a little out of synch.  It was, in my opinion, a must win for the Quakers to stay in the race for a top four ODAC spot.  Nine games to go, but stacked at the top with two 7-0 teams and a 6-1.  One 7-0 team will emerge on Saturday as E&H/RMC square off.  Interesting weekend coming up!

Yep, that's a big game tomorrow -- at E&H. They play again at RMC in three weeks. GC at VWU is equally important in the race for a top four spot. W&L goes to HSC. It would be an upset if HSC won, even at home. Randolph came close to taking W&L to OT last night in Lexington missing a 3 pointer at the buzzer and losing 76-73. The Wildcats had an 8-0 run in about a minute and a half to tie it with just over 4 minutes left, but couldn't get a lead.

rmc1982, did you delete your post about H-SC basketball out of pity?  It was not inaccurate.

I read it last night.  I've only seen HSC twice this year at the tournament at Guilford, where they split 1-1 by losing to Huntingdon and beating Concordia (TX).  Traditionally, the ODAC has definitely been more accustomed to HSC being competitive every time on the court, but especially against RMC.

I've not seen HSC this season but I hear they are really, really bad; like the worse in the ODAC, maybe in the south region. Go figure.
How did the program sink so low and how do you build it back up ?

You know, programs go through cycles.  Guilford, for example, won the 1973 NAIA championship (when it really meant something, BTW) and continued to be a national player through the 1980s.  By 1999, after a tough 8 years in the ODAC, we fell to 3-22.  Another coach for four years until Palombo came in 2003 and by 2006-10 a regular NCAA participant and in the Final Four twice.  You do have to recruit good, coachable team players and help them develop, but consistency is key.  I hope HSC bounces back ... the ODAC is a better conference when HSC is in the mix.

I did so because I woke up and thought better of it and out of respect for my HSC friends I took it off.... I know it was accurate but this wasn't probably the best place to say that.... I know that you guys see what we see and it's really a shame... they did look like they quit and that just isn't the HSC basketball I have come to respect over the years... We do hope that you get your problems ironed out ... The rivalry is ALOT more fun when you're at your best... Unfortunately it may be time for Dee Vick to go.... I watch Tony Shavers at William and Mary- he wins there and that's just as hard to sell to a kid as HSC.... you need another Tony!

W&L eeks past H-SC. Hard to believe they won when they shot 2-23 or so on 3 pointers.

E&H gets the home win over RMC and is alone in first place. Lots of games yet to play, so anything can happen. The top four teams -- E&H, RMC, W&L, and GC -- still have to face each other once each, so if they can take care of business in their five remaining games against the other eight they can each secure first round byes and just duke it out for the top seed.

Final GC 79, VW 71

If I'd told you this morning that VW would hit 17 of 33 (51.5%) three-pointers and still lose, you probably wouldn't have believed me.  Unfortunately for the Marlins, however, they only hit 6 of 26 (23.1%) on two-pointers.  Strange.  Anyway, it was a very tight contest until about 4 minutes remained in the game ... I don't think either team ever had more than a 6-point lead until the end and it was 41 all at the half.  GC began to pull away and had a 10-point lead in the final minute.

GC hit ten free throws and outrebounded VW in the second half and for the game.  Carson Long got a nice double double with 13 points/12 boards and Curry 21, Thompson 16 plus Gregory 9 and Leckonby 16 off the bench made for a balanced attack.  VW had five players in double figures, all between 11-16.  Again, strange when you get 51 points off threes, but only score 71.

In a bit of cruel scheduling fate, the Quakers face all three on the road down the stretch.  May not be a bad thing, however, as GC's oddly had more success away than at home.

In a bit of fun news, W&L's win over H-SC at Fleet yesterday was the first win at H-SC since 1997. Yep, almost 21 years of futility.

That was the worst I've seen RC play all season. Some credit definitely goes to Guilford, but we looked a step slower that entire game. There was one possession at the end of the first half where GC blocked 3 shots in a 15 second span.

Yesterday RC beat Bridgewater 67-59. Surprisingly RC got a big lead at the beginning of the second half (15), not surprisingly RC let BC come back and almost win. RC went on a run to close out the game. Bridgewater definitely has a good team, they did look out of sorts at the beginning of the second half though. RC plays at W and L on Wednesday, it should be a competitive game.

After seeing almost every team play in the ODAC this year, it's apparent that E & H and RMC are top dogs this year in the conference. Guilford and W and L have a chance to be there also if they can keep their momentum going. After that it seems that there's no clear cut team.
