Know lots of people in the Franklin area and yes, attended TA.

Jackets lose in Crenshaw 70-69 in a game they should have lost worse... down by 15 early and played catch up the entire game including OT... NOT impressed by this group by what I've seen so far... they have a long way to go to be able to win this league OR this tournament and get in the 💃 dance...need some intensity on both ends of the floor....Let's hope they wake up soon... Congrats to EMU for their first win in Crenshaw I think... you guys deserved it

Final GC 80 LC 70 in Greensboro

The Quakers jumped out to a 16-0 lead and led 42-28 at the half, but Lynchburg mounted a 2nd half comeback and trailed by just one at 60-59.  Guilford never surrendered the lead, however, and pulled out an 80-70 win over the Hornets.

LC shot 15 of 41 from three and 25 of 70 overall.  LC was outrebounded 46-29 by the Quakers.  GC, meanwhile, hit only 6 of 18 threes, but shot 32 of 60 overall.  It was an interesting game and, with the win, GC retains sole possession of 4th place at 10-8, 6-3.  LC falls to 9-9, 3-6.

Roanoke played their most complete game of the season last night and beat W and L 90-54.  :o. When I started watching the score was 21-8. The closest the game got after that was 44-32. RC's defense was on point last night. With that win RC is in 7th place and 2 games behind VWC and BC for 5th.

Yeah, I did a double take when I saw this score.  Guilford draws the Generals next ... hope we can match the intensity of the Maroons!  Anyway, congratulations to Roanoke on a well-played game.

Definitely not a good performance by the Jackets. They did get a 5 point lead with 3 minutes left but couldn't hold on to it. EMU looked like the better team last night. I wasn't paying close enough attention to the Royal defense the entire game, but they were using a 2-3 zone frequently, which the Jackets couldn't beat -- and for that the coaches must be held accountable. I've seen properly coached teams shred that kind of zone plenty of times with the right player and ball movement. Don't waste your time dribbling around the perimeter -- pass the ball quickly and move quickly off the ball and you'll create holes in the zone that lead to open shots.

The top six teams remain the same but E&H is a little more secure with the losses by RMC and W&L. On Saturday there are two games between top six teams -- GC at W&L and BC at E&H. RMC needs to bounce back against Randolph in Crenshaw and VWU needs a win at LC to keep the top 6 in tact and separated from the bottom six.

I hate to say it like this but as Alumni we are accustomed to better than we're getting right now( I know the HSC guys can say the same thing with more intensity ) Maybe  we've been spoiled with all of the successes we've had with our program over the years and I know talent levels ebb and flow but that's not what I'm talking about.... things like what you've pointed out like not recognizing and attacking a zone the way you described, intensity and especially defensive intensity, and being able to hold a lead and play like you've been there before are ALL trademarks of our program.... that's what we usually hang our hats on- ESPECIALLY IN CRENSHAW..... and I haven't seen that consistently.... whatever it is needs to be corrected and soon.... If I'm being a little blunt so be it but I'm just calling it the way I see it right now.... there's still time to right the ship but it needs to be righted soon!

I only got to watch the last 2 minutes of regulation and overtime, but it looked to me that EMU flat out wanted it more. EMU's intensity on defense was there as RMC didn't get any open looks besides a put back lay up.  RMC's defense on the other hand was giving EMU open shots.

So rmc1982 isn't left in the dark...Rob Stanley and I graduated from the same school...just many years and a name change after.

Small world I guess.

Good to hear from some former students of the small, private schools that were/are in the same conference...I graduated from York Academy where my Dad coached.  Sadly, they closed in '94 and he had a brief 3 or 4 year stint at Amelia Academy...prior to York, he was at Brunswick and Broadwater, so I have an affection for the VCC, as I grew up in it.  Sorry, Scots13, but I wish Fuqua was still PEA...I think they got away from their roots and tradition in trying to become something they weren't.  I also wish Isle of Wight Academy, which is flourishing, hadn't left for the Metro Conference...I guess I'm just old school and don't like change sometimes.

I graduated from SA in 1978 and my kids all went there...my last(my youngest son) graduated in 2016- won two state Championships in baseball...We're also flourishing right now...Dale could move back to 11 man if he wanted but i think he likes the 8 man challenge....It really is a fast interesting game to watch!...I fondly remember matchups with all you mentioned( especially PEA-Now FUQUA)...we still have rivalries with IWA in certain sports but since they grew and moved up we dont play them in states anymore.... Nice to know some fellow VCC..( and old VAAC) compadres here!

Ruth Murphy overstayed her welcome--plain and simple. And to your point about Fuqua still being PEA...a lot of us wished we were still PEA. I was a member of the 50th graduating class of PEA/Fuqua. Of the 45 or so people in my class, at least 40 of us had either one or both parents attend PEA, which is probably not the norm at the school now.  What should have been a proud moment and a celebration was not had because Ruth Murphy successfully disassociated the school with anything that happen prior to '93.  Can't really expect someone to donate money if you've basically said pi$$ on you, jack.  Not to mention she was the mastermind of the plan to show Skeeter Fore the door after nearly 50 years. (I'm sure some of you guys have heard that name before...)

A corporation like Smithfield certainly helps, but I digress. J.B. Fuqua helped turn around the financial troubles of PEA and helped the school flourish for a couple years...
My 17 year old self would die if he knew I said this, but good for IWA to have a partnership with a meaningful regional corporation.

I sure do miss the football and basketball seasons when things got heated between schools. Tidewater used to field a football team, Southampton played 11 man and not in NC, Kenston Forest, Brunswick, Blessed Sacrament (Huguenot for you older guys  ;D) . Everyone getting mad at each other, not wanting to play because it a sure bet you'll lose (cc: BA and KFS football teams) is for the birds. Almost 60 years of tradition and they let an old woman screw it up. Shameful.
