I don't follow the ODAC thread or conference as close, so excuse me for just realizing the RMC Yellow Jackets best player (and league MVP) is aptly named "Buzz" Anthony. No wonder the team and him specifically are having such wonderful years. Congrats to Buzz and best of luck to his Yellow Jackets moving forward!

The third public NCAA Division III regional rankings are out: https://www.d3hoops.com/notables/2019/02/men-regional-rankings-third

So here's the South's rankings:
1   Randolph-Macon   23-2   23-2
2   Centre   19-4   21-4
3   Emory   19-5   19-5
4   Washington & Lee   18-7   18-7
5   Guilford   18-7   18-7
6   Lynchburg   20-5   20-5
7   Roanoke   18-7   18-7
8   Mary Hardin-Baylor   20-5   20-5

So in my opinion I think Randolph Macon gets a bid to the NCAA tourney no matter if they win the ODAC or not.  Does anyone think any other ODAC team could get a bid?

I think if Guilford and Washington and Lee can get to the ODAC championship they'd have a decent shot of getting one.

^^^ I've read elsewhere on these boards that Regional Rankings are a significant factor in determining selection to the NCAA tournament. If so, that bodes well for more than one ODAC team getting in.

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

Um ... yeah ... that's how the rankings work and are used for :).

RMC is a lock to get into the tournament no matter what. Probably hosting as well.

After that, it is going to be really interesting. One has to figure W&L, Guilford, Lynchburg, and Roanoke will all lose (or least all but one), meaning they drop in the WL% except for whomever can go the furthest.

Basically - who ever gets to the title game will have done themselves a huge favor and may secure an at-large bid. Anyone falling before that may hurt those chances. The further a team goes the better in this particular week.

Roanoke with a last second win over Lynchburg tonight 74-72.  Roanoke was up almost the entire game, but Lynchburg took the lead with under a minute left.  Lynchburg fouled Roanoke with under 3 seconds left (game was tied) and Roanoke knocked down 2 FTs to win it.  Roanoke has Guilford on Saturday at 8pm.

In other ODAC tourney news:

RMC beats Randolph big 79-42
Washington and Lee beat VWU 77-69
Guilford beats Emory and Henry 77-67

Guilford looked very good in the win over a good E&H team. GC has a really well oiled, team oriented offense and solid, quick to react defense. Conversely, it seemed to me that the E&H offense relies too much on individual playmaking. Only saw a wee bit of W&L/VWU. Jackets had no problems with Randolph.

I'm pretty sure the Guilford/Roanoke game is at 3 pm.  The women play the 6 and 8 pm games on Saturday, Feb, 23.

Yep sorry. Roanoke women play at 8 pm.

Geez W&L really needs to find a way to upset RMC. But they way the YellowJackets are playing, that seems like a long, long shot.

They're playing unreal at this point.  When Roanoke played at RMC, Roanoke didn't play horrible (didn't play the best either) but RMC played that good.  It seemed in that first half every open shot RMC hit. It literally looked like they were playing at a different speed compared to Roanoke. It's going to take a huge game from someone in the ODAC to beat them in the tourney.

No one posting on the women's side. In case no one noticed, #1 GC and #2 E&H both lost today. Both were regionally ranked -- E&H #2 and GC #9. Gotta wonder now if either of them will get an NCAA tourney bid.

Mentioning this on the women's board in case anyone wants to comment over there.

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

I think E&H still gets in, but Guilford doesn't have any chance.

Neither team shot well in R-MC vs W&L, but the Jackets shot just enough better to win. Survive and advance.

Roanoke loses to Guilford 65-67 (Roanoke missed a shot at the buzzard to tie it). Great game in which Guilford was up almost the entire first half.  In the second half, Roanoke was up the majority of the time, but couldn't hang on at the end.  Guilford's guards did a good job of exploiting the height match up (they were definitely taller guard wise) and they routinely found ways to get the ball into them in 1 on 1 match ups.  Something that killed Roanoke was that our shooters missed 3 wide open 3s with about 4 minutes left in the game while Roanoke was up 4.  When you're going against a good team like Guilford or RMC you have to make those open 3s.  Great game and good luck to Guilford in taking on the beast known as RMC.

Just wondering if anyone can answer this does RMC have the most ODAC championships?

y_jack_lok

^^^ Congrats to Guilford. Looking forward to a great game tomorrow.

In answer to your question, this is from the ODAC website: http://odaconline.com/sports/mbkb/archives/alltimeodacchampionships Scroll down to the bottom to see how many championships have been won by the various schools. Looks like your Maroons lead the pack along with H-SC. Gonna take a few years for any other schools to catch up.
