Roanoke loses to Guilford 65-67 (Roanoke missed a shot at the buzzard to tie it). Great game in which Guilford was up almost the entire first half.  In the second half, Roanoke was up the majority of the time, but couldn't hang on at the end.  Guilford's guards did a good job of exploiting the height match up (they were definitely taller guard wise) and they routinely found ways to get the ball into them in 1 on 1 match ups.  Something that killed Roanoke was that our shooters missed 3 wide open 3s with about 4 minutes left in the game while Roanoke was up 4.  When you're going against a good team like Guilford or RMC you have to make those open 3s.  Great game and good luck to Guilford in taking on the beast known as RMC.

Just wondering if anyone can answer this does RMC have the most ODAC championships?
I just got home from Salem.  The Roanoke/Guilford matchup was a great game.  I think a key to the finish was when Roanoke had the ball, down 2, with 8.8 seconds to go.  Guilford had a foul to give and, consequently, forced Roanoke to inbounds twice.  Also, our defense on the inbounds forced the Maroons to throw the pass very deep to find an open guard.  With that said, the Quakers were fortunate that the Maroons missed the last shot.  I can tell you the GC bigs put a lot of pressure on Freund throughout the game and were very tired when it was over.  The old basketball adage held true today:  it is very difficult to beat a good team three times in a season.  I hope the Maroons get an NCAA bid, but I am not optimistic.  RMC is in no matter what and I hope Guilford punched their ticket today.

Guilford definitely the better team today. Congrats to the Quakers.

I hope Jon Nowell and Grayson Midulla will be back in action for the Jackets this coming weekend. They will be needed.

Guilford fans were sad to see Nowell go down so quickly today.  We all hope he and Midulla recover quickly and are full-speed for the NCAA tournament.  Go ODAC!

Unfortunately I think you're correct.  Roanoke has a couple of bad losses that compared to another bubble team they'll get eliminated.  I thought Washington and Lee would have a good chance of getting a bid, but I've looked at their schedule and they have a couple of losses that won't look good compared to other teams also.  To be honest this season wasn't the best for Roanoke with the expectations that we had coming in and also our last year of having Freud (he will be missed).  I felt that this was Roanoke's best chance in recent memory to win the ODAC championship and we just couldn't play consistent enough when facing a good team like Guilford (story of our season).

In other news hats off to Guilford.  They played great today and in the beginning it was back and forth but in the second half Guilford kept a steady lead.  After watching RMC play Guilford one thing was clear that in order to beat RMC you have to stop Buzz Anthony (I believe he only had 4 after half time).  Good luck to both teams as they start the NCAA tourney it would be great to see a ODAC team win the title again. I'm also hoping another ODAC team can sneak into the tourney though it seems highly unlikely.

Just saw the selections.  It's awesome that 2 ODAC teams are hosting the first round (Guilford and RMC).  Good luck you guys!

Great that both get to host. I think Guilford might be in a tougher bracket. Don't know  much about Sewanee, but if they win that game either Emory or Wittenberg will be a big challenge. On the other hand R-MC might have a tougher first round game but, if they win it, could have an easier second round game.

Our coach at Sewanee played for and has a similar coaching style to Rick Byrd at Belmont University.    Means you got to guard the 3-point shot and watch for the backdoor cut.  Number of good outside shooters.   One of our players put up 40 points in our SAA semi-final against Berry.

Sewanee's already beat Emory once this season in our gym.

^^^ Thanks for those insights. Good luck this weekend.

I was at the Guilford watch party today.  Most of us were expecting a trip to ATL with Maryville in the mix instead of Wittenberg.  With that said, some strong matchups and anybody's pod to win.  The Guilford players and coaches were excited to be able to host.  Maryville is going to Marietta ... a trip GC made in 2017.

I don't remember two ODAC teams hosting before, but it could have happened.  Good luck to both teams.

I've been in Phoenix at a show for work since Friday and didn't see any of the games... CONGRATS to the Quakers and Jackets!! Glad we both get to host! I'm not back in Va until Thursday night and probably won't make Friday nights game in Crenshaw but will come Saturday if we win!! GO JACKETS!! GO QUAKERS!

And thanks to your Quakers for preventing that pod from being the most boringly-nicknamed collection of four teams in college basketball history. ;)

You're welcome.  Could have been worse if Hampden-Sydney, DePauw or Trinity (TX) had beaten out Emory.  lol

Why can't these schools be Lizards or Beagles?
