Worked the LC VWU game and my goodness at that contested step back 3 by Romeo to win it. Can't give that guy any space at all to get his shot off or it's buckets

R-MC 93 - E&H 60. Apparently the Wasps are playing without their two leading scorers. I didn't catch everything the announcers said about why, but at least one is due to injury. Together they had been scoring 35 pts a game for E&H. Jackets were 40 of 65 from the field for 61.5% including 10 of 20 three pointers. Freshmen Josh Talbert (16 pts) and Miles Mallory (14 pts) were the Jackets' leading scorers, with three others in double figures.

I'm sure hasanova didn't even think twice about seeing his grandsons play over a trip up to H-SC, and he's probably doubly glad given that the Tigers upset the Quakers 54-52. I tried to catch the end of that game but tuned in too late. Instead I heard the announcers do their wrap-up while watching coaches Kimbrough and Palombo engage in a friendly chat on the court. Would have been interesting to hear what they were saying to each other. H-SC has now won six in a row.

All the other games seem to have been pretty close: Lynchburg upsets VWU 76-74 at home, SU wins at home over Randolph 71-65, BC over Ferrum 88-83 at BC, and Roanoke wins on the road at EMU 63-60 in OT. W&L was idle.

One of the sloppiest wins I've ever seen. I've never seen Roanoke pass up so many lay ups for 3s and shoot such a low percentage from 3. If Roanoke plays like this we won't win that many more ODAC games this year.  2 big upsets in my opinion yesterday. Lynchburg lost to William and Peace who at the time only had 2 wins on New Years day and beat a tough Virginia Wesleyan team yesterday.  Hampden Sydney beat the defending ODAC champs yesterday also.

The break for the holidays always has plenty of games to enjoy. It also has it's handful of results that make one scratch their head or an upset to enjoy. This holiday "season" saw plenty of all of that. Top 25 teams were not safe. Nearly all seemed to lose. There were results every day that made Division III coaches, fans, and many others take note.

Sunday night Hoopsville returns to the air from the holidays with plenty to talk about, but not enough time. We chat with teams that impressed, got a big win, continue to stay unscathed, and may end up in the new Top 25 polls. We also try and read the Top 25 tea leaves to figure out how voters may fill out their ballots on Monday (hint: it might be anyone's guess).

While we try and cover all Division III basketball news, now that we have entered January we split up the regions to cover as many teams as possible each week. Sundays the regions are Atlantic, Central, Northeast, and South.

Hoopsville is presented by D3hoops.com and airs from the WBCA/NABC Studio. You can watch Sunday's show LIVE in the following ways:

I've never been to a game at HSC and was looking forward to a Saturday afternoon contest after years of the GC/HSC games always being on Wednesday night ... until my daughter-in-law told me my twin grandsons have their very first game tomorrow at 12:15 about an hour west of Winston-Salem.  C'est la vie.  Go Quakers!
What a roller coaster ride for the Quakers this week ... an unexpected win at Emory and an unexpected loss at greatly improved HSC!  All you can do is congratulate the Tigers and Guilford alumnus Caleb Kimbrough on the win.  The student tops the teacher in this one.

what a difference a coach can make; congrats to my Tigers. Look forward to watching this program improve over the next 5 or so seasons.

Guilford with a second straight loss tonight at Ferrum 68-65.  Tyler Sanborn gets the better of his alma mater in this one. When I watched the game in the second half, Ferrum was up 12, but at the 8 minute mark Guilford made a big run and knocked the lead down to 1.  Guilford couldn't gain the lead but had a chance to tie it up at the buzzard with a 3 that was just off the mark.

What a four-day stretch for Palombo to lose to both of the ODAC HC's he coached.

Mr. Ypsi

So, any talk around the Guilford campus of rescinding the diplomas of Kimbrough and Sanborn? ;D ;)

Five ODAC games tonight: E&H at Roanoke, Lynchburg at Randolph, EMU at SU, BC at W&L and, the one to watch, H-SC at VWU. R-MC in a non-conference game at Mary Washington. UMW is 4-2 vs ODAC teams: wins over SU, EMU, LC and Randolph; losses to BC and VWU.

Roanoke beats Emory and Henry at home 85-55.  RC had a 12 point lead at half and then expanded it to 18 for most of the second half.  This was a much better game than the previous at EMU.

y_jack_lok

Tough shooting night for R-MC as they lose 70-65 at Mary Washington. They kept Buzz Anthony from getting good looks and from getting to the hoop. Paid for it by fouling him a bunch, but it worked out for them.

In other ODAC news:

Washington and Lee beats Bridgewater 76-62

Hampden Sydney loses at VWU 65-77

Lynchburg wins at Randolph 82-69

Eastern Mennonite wins at Shenandoah U 80-79

This seems to be a ODAC year where everyone is beating everyone. Should be a very interesting conference tourney.

None that I've heard.  Congratulations to both young coaches!

Surprised at how competitive the H-SC at VWU game ended up being with H-SC's best player - Jake Hahn - out for the game. When I saw he wasn't playing I figured it was going to get ugly. There's very little margin for error with the lack of depth they have, especially at the 4 and 5 spots. Was only an 8-point game with 1:30 to play.  Should get back in the W column with a home game on Saturday against E&H, who is likely the worst team in the league so long as Molden and Holliday out of the lineup with what I assume are injuries?

If H-SC could just stop turning over the ball they could really have something going. They otherwise run a really efficient brand of basketball, second in the league in field goal percentage at 45.6%.

Meanwhile, Cody Lang for Lynchburg went nuts with 26 and 15, and Chance Greene returned to the lineup after missing the VWU game with a concussion. Buzz Anthony dropped another Jason Kidd esque triple-double, his second of the year I believe.
