I was trying to watch R-MC on my phone while at a game. Not a very satisfactory experience. Ferrum appears to have had a rough game shooting and the Jackets a rough second half. Halftime score was 35-18. Each team only scored 22 in the second half for a 57-40 final. Ferrum's high scorer had sx points. R-MC had only one in double figures.

Guilford appears to have returned to form with a convincing 80-58 win over Bridgewater.

In other games Roanoke over SU, H-SC over E&H, VWU over W&L, and Randolph over EMU. H-SC won by 18, the other games were all single digit wins.

H-SC won fairly easily over the short-handed Wasps today. Looked like they only had five, maybe four guys dressed on the bench, and folks let's just say some of these players are the most irrationally confident shooters I have ever seen.

In today's ODAC competition:

Roanoke wins at Ferrum 80-67. Roanoke seems to be getting better and may be able to sneak in the top 5 if they keep stacking up odac wins.

Washington and Lee beats Randolph 81-65

Virginia Wesleyan beats Shenandoah 71-55

Guilford wins at Emory and Henry 99-87

Hampden Sydney loses big at Lynchburg 51-76

Randolph Macon wins big at EMU 77-49

Looking forward to Guilford at Randolph-Macon on Saturday!  Big game for both teams.

I was a bit surprised that Guilford vs E&H was as high scoring as it was and as close as it was, given other E&H losses. Checked the box score and saw that Colin Molden was back for E&H. He didn't start, but played 18 minutes and scored 12 points and had six assists.

Well, Guilford had a 30+ lead and went deep into the bench and I think the Wasps put up a 20-6 run at the end.  To be blunt, Guilford was on 99 for the last 4 minutes or so.  E&H hit 15 threes. so that contributed, but the outcome was never in doubt.

Watched the first half of the H-SC vs. LC game last night in person before I had to leave, but it all came down to defense. LC played hard defense and didn't beat themselves on that end by losing track of their man, but the Tigers bailed them out a lot with some players taking some shots they really have no business taking early in the shot clock or after only one or two passes. I'm going to assume part of that was frustration with not being able to get anything going against a strong LC defense.

H-SC was doing reasonably well on defense until the last couple minutes when they apparently decided leaving good/great shooters open from three was a sound defensive strategy, and then LC just took that momentum into the second half and it just snowballed from there, it appears. Transition defense, even when there was no man-advantage for the Hornets, was particularly porous as some players were getting back and picking up no one.

First time since the Macon game that I have to say that H-SC just legitimately played bad basketball. Hopefully it doesn't carry over to the weekend and isn't a sign of a regression to the mean because they have certainly far exceeded expectations thus far. Though some of the wins in the win streak were against teams that would likely have a hard time competing in the ODAC. But the Tigers couldn't even beat that caliber of team last year so I can't complain.

Meanwhile the Hornets are looking good and improving after a baffling home loss to William Peace on New Years Day. The home win over Virginia Wesleyan without Chance Greene was impressive.

Thanks for that info. I obviously didn't look at the box score play-by-play or I might have figured that out on my own.

Full day of ODAC games today. Roanoke plays today against #23 VA Wesleyan. I'm not expecting a win, but I hope they can keep it close.

You pretty much had that game figured out -- VWU 67, Roanoke 62.

A surprisng result in Crenshaw -- R-MC 64, Guilford 39. Jacket defense was good and when the Quakers got open looks the shots didn't fall. Just solid team basketball by the Jackets.

Also: Ferrum 75, EMU 60; H-SC 79, BC 67; LC 88, E&H 64; W&L 87, SU 77.

RMC result not a surprise to me. Guilford has a tendency to struggle to score, Macon is the best defensive team in the league, and Macon is on a different level than the rest of the ODAC this year.

^^^ I did not realize that about Guilford's scoring. They rank #343 out of 416 in scoring in D3 men's basketball. I did know that R-MC was good defensively and it turns out they are #1 in scoring defense in D3 men's hoops. So, in that context the result makes sense. I hope it plays out the same way when the two teams meet at Guilford on February 22nd.

Just looked at the rankings and Roanoke is #8 is scoring defense. Only problem is we're #296 in offense.

y_jack_lok

^^^ Guilford is #16 in scoring defense at 63.8 opponents points per game. R-MC scored 64 against them. VWU is #14. So the ODAC has four of the top 16 teams in the country in scoring defense.
