^^^ Guilford is #16 in scoring defense at 63.8 opponents points per game. R-MC scored 64 against them. VWU is #14. So the ODAC has four of the top 16 teams in the country in scoring defense.

Keep in mind that RMC and GC are low pace teams and the per game numbers don't take that into account.

Congratulations to the Yellow Jackets for Saturday's convincing win over Guilford and their now #3 national ranking.  In regard to Saturday's game, I don't think I've ever been as disappointed so quickly in a game.  RMC jumped on the Quakers with both feet early and often!

Gonna ride over to Va Beach with a bunch of other RMC Alums tonite to the Fish Tank to watch the game .....tall order for our Jackets in their house . I have nothing but respect for Coach Macedo and what he's done there and we will be lucky to come out of there with a win! Better bring our "A " game tonight!! GO Jackets! Havent heard much from DeWayne this season.....bet we will if the Fish win tonight! ;) ;) ;)

Been busy with my own basketball season but I'll be watching! My favorite ODAC matchup, VWU vs Randolph-Macon! Both teams are ranked and playing well so it should be another instant classic! They only meet once so I'm sure they will leave it all out on the floor tonight! Good luck to both teams!

Good to hear from you DeWayne!!Should be a good Game tonight!!

GREAT GAME and great crowd at the Fish Tank last night!! Hard fought and back and forth the entire 2nd half the Marlins only mistake was putting Buzz Anthony on the line in clutch situations late in the game and he made them pay with 6 in a row and the Jackets got a stop or two at the end to squeak out a win! I'VE GOT TO GIVE IT TO HIM- Coach Macedo is SMART! Took away our 3's and forced us to drive it and take it inside where they had the advantage with size and it almost worked!Still don't like this conference format where we only play VWU once in the regular season but it is what it is!! We should see them again in the tournament if it all plays out and it should be another barn burner!

No one likes the conference format for the overstuffed sports. But since they keep adding members to keep football afloat, many of the rest of the sports pay the price. When you have 13 (ex: men's basketball and soccer) or 14 (ex: women's soccer), it's just not a good system. For sports over 12 they need to go to divisions and have home and home schedules. And then, if they want, they can try and match up the expected strength programs to have SoS help for a few cross division games. Otherwise you get the crap like H-SC hosting the men's soccer tournament without playing the best teams in the conference. Either that or they need to split, with a new conference willing to take the remaining public CAC schools, maybe poach one or two more from the USASAC (before they announce a split since they are up to 18 members), and just have a cooperative agreement for the sports with limited membership.

jknezek- I understand the "Why's" of what's going on but it always seems like its HSC, Guilford, W&L, or VWU that we only get one game with and it screws with outcomes and seedings at the end of the schedule and really isnt fair to either school. I agree Divisions would help solve that and the powers that be in the ODAC should rectify this problem. The conferences that the state schools like MWU and CNU are in don't necessarily make a good fit for us because of the difference in sizes of the schools but really doesent always make a difference in competitiveness. I think that divisions within the ODAC may be a better fix for now.

Had to resort to watching on my phone again and wasn't able to watch the entire game. From what I saw it was clear, as you said, that VWU was not going to allow open threes. But it also looked to me like one of Coach Merkle's counter strategies was to post up guard Terry Woods, as I happened to catch him scoring down low several times. Looked like whoever was guarding him for the Marlins was having trouble. Woods scored a career high 20 points. Great game and great win for the Jackets.

I think that divisions within the ODAC may be a better fix for now.

I don't disagree. And the ODAC charter prevents the public schools from joining, which is why I said they would have to go into the "new" conference. That being said, I think divisions would work best as well. With 16 conference basketball games you could easily go 7&6 for men's divisions. Basically home and homes for 10-12 games and 4 crossovers. So you would play 10 of 13 ODAC teams every year and in every player's 4 year cycle you would play every ODAC team at least once home and away and almost all of them more than that.  Of course the unbalanced nature means one side would get a few more non-conf games, but in sports like basketball that's hardly a problem.

It's harder in soccer, where you get 8 conference games for men this year and 10 for women. Obviously you'd not go home and homes in division, but with 7&7 (women's soccer), you'd have 6 division games and 4 crossovers. It would work out the same where every player would get to go home and home with every cross division team, and go home and home twice with every division team in every 4 year cycle. Men's soccer with 8 games gets a bit trickier. 6 and 2 or 5 and 2 is kind of messy as you would get every ODAC team, but miss one of the cross division teams either home or away in every 4 years for the 6 division and miss 4 of the cross division teams for either home or away in every 4 years. Of course going to 9 conference games would solve that issue.

Regardless, this pick and choose business that they did with soccer had an ugly consequence for tournament hosting. Arguably it worked of course, since the ODAC got an at-large and the 2 best conference teams made the tournament, but it's just a bad look to have H-SC hosting without playing either of the top teams in the conference.

Thanks.  RMC is a fine team, but it clearly wasn't our day.  Chin up ...

In other ODAC news from yesterday, Roanoke lost to Washington and Lee 70-64.  W and L hit 13 3s and hit some clutch shots.  RC needs a win bad as we've now lost 2 in a row.

E&H got a win last night at EMU. SU downed BC. H-SC beat Randolph. Lynchburg beat Ferrum. Guilford had the night off.

In the standings Lynchburg, with only one conference loss (to Ferrum) and a win over VWU, is right behind R-MC. VWU is in 3rd with two losses and Roanoke, W&L and H-SC are tied for 4th-6th with three losses each.
