Dramatic finish. R-MC down by one gets a steal and layup then a stop at the buzzer to beat Roanoke 60-59. I only saw fits and snatches of the game, but what I saw looked like Rosnoke outplayed the Jackets. Definitely a tough loss for the Maroons.

Yeah this one really hurt. This unfortunately has been Roanoke's MO when playing top teams not only this season but for the last couple of years in my opinion. We were pretty good at keeping it close or leading the majority of the game and then losing within the last minute, I thought it was going to happen yesterday but instead it's today.  Overall RC played really hard and to be honest I didn't expect it to be this close because I've seen RMC play in person and seen just how good they are.  Overall this season RC in my opinion played above the expectations as I personally didn't think we had a shot of beating Guilford yesterday.  Good luck to RMC in the championship game.

An impressive 72-57 win for R-MC over VWU. The defense was tough, as usual, but the offense was more in sync than what little I saw yesterday. Having Miles Mallory back was definitely a huge help.

Congrats to VWU on a great season. Hopefully it's not over for them. Also, here's hoping the Jackets get to host next weekend.

Yes Miles makes a HUGE difference!! He was injured in practice earlier in the week and I was hoping he was be able to play today!! I knew earlier in the week because one of my frat bros said he was gonna miss some time but I didn't dare say anything publically on here where someone on the other side would've seen  it.... we should host next weekend...but I guarantee you they'll send CNU and VWU through here either this weekend or next if we survive!! GREAT WEEKEND FOR BOTH OUR TEAMS!!!

Yes congrats to RMC on the chip! They have been rolling all season. It looks like my Marlins have a decent shot to make it seeing as they were ranked in the region and had 2 of their 5 losses come to a top 3 team nationally. I'll just be glad to hear that we ended the tourney drought!

And I'm going to have to wait another year....color me shocked smh

Yes, unfortunate that VWU did not get a bid. CNU got an at-large bid, so must have had a stronger resume by the metrics the committee uses, even though they lost head-to-head vs VWU. The OT loss at E&H had to have hurt the Marlins. I watched the selection show and heard the comments of the tournament committee chair. While it was not stated specifically, apparently the committe perceived the strength of midwest teams -- OH, IL, WI, MN -- to be better as it looks like 16 teams from those states are in. Just my guess, anyway. Not that states have anything to do with it -- I'm just giving my definition of midwest. Indiana and Michigan schools not that strong this season. Someone who knows more can correct me if that's a faulty perception.

The tournament committee chair was not on the selection show, but you can hear from him on Hoopsville in a few hours.

^^^ Oh. Then who was the guy that was on briefly at the very end after Dave signed off? He was identified as Sam Atkinson of Gallaudet and introduced as the chair of the D3 men's basketball national selection committee. At about the 37 minute mark of this video:  https://youtu.be/7RjEia9wSaI

Oh funny -- I turned it off after Dave was done. 😂😂 I had too much work to do.

I'm sorry but I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around this. Is the committee really telling us the ODAC is a one bid league? Essentially VWU had to beat Randolph Macon to get in....lost to RMC twice. So that means the other 3 losses (one in double OT, one in the final seconds) were so inexcusable that they only way they got in would be to beat a top 3 team nationally. What a slap in the face not just to VWU but to the whole conference

^^^ To get some insight into the process involved in selecting at-large teams you might want to look at the "Pool C" subject under "Multi-Regional Topics" on these boards. There are people who post there that spend a lot of time evaluating Pool C bid prospects and posting their thoughts and their research. Someone who does that research might be willing to answer your questions. But remember, these are not NCAA folks, just interested parties such as yourself.

Bids aren't really given to conferences, they're given to teams. There is one automatic bid per conference and that's the only one handed out that way. Everyone else has to earn it on their own merit.

Other teams that got at-large bids did indeed beat the top team in their region.

Here are the resumes of the top teams in each region left at the table:

This was not a particularly strong year overall for the ODAC.  Last year was better and they got more teams in.  The Pool C selections generally reflect conference strength - although that's not a criteria used for selection.  It just means strong conferences tend to produce strong teams.  I suspect the ODAC will be better next year and the bids will reflect that.
