This is getting real now.... ACC and Atlantic 10 just cancelled their tournaments..... You guys can have your opinions and I'll have mine.... I played ball too and although there are many crowds I don't remember in big games there are a few I DO remember.... if you had seen Buzz Anthony and Ian Robertson during the 2nd half when we were putting away TCNJ waving their arms at the student section where I was sitting(directly across from the RMC bench) and inciting them to get louder- which it DID.... and quite frankly was deafening at times.... you would definitely say it makes a difference and our players will be the first ones to tell you that.... does it make a HUGE difference? Probably not but I would be willing to bet those Yeshiva kids have NEVER played in a venue like that....I know there are other venues as crazy as ours... I've heard Williams and also Amherst can also be crazy..... Ours isnt nasty or disrespectful just loud...... Now I'll be surprised if the whole tournament gets past this weekend because of this Corona virus  thing.... if they're cancelling D1 tournaments then ours is sure to follow.... Hope it's not but sadly I think it will and it's really a shame To deprive these kids of something they'll remember the rest of their lives.

Duke just pulled the plug on athletics, including basketball. We are in to the "when" not "if" stage of all NCAA events being shut down.

And with that, the 2019-20 seasons have come to a sudden end.

What a week it has been in college basketball. Exactly a week ago, as we hit the air, the first signs that COVID-19 was going to impact the NCAA Tournaments was seen. Since then, it has been a whirlwind.

Tonight on Hoopsville, we try and make sense of one of the stranger finishes in history for NCAA events. What started with isolated closings of gyms for games ends a week later in all games being called off through the rest of the academic year.

We will chat with those who were preparing for games on Friday and hear their reactions to the seasons coming to a close so quickly.

Guests Schedule (order subject to change):
- Michelle Ferenze, No. 10 Whitman women's coach
- John Krikorian, Christopher Newport men's coach
- Cheri Harrer, No. 9 Baldwin Wallace women's coach

Hoopsville is presented by D3hoops.com and airs from the WBCA/NABC Studio. You can watch Thursday's show LIVE starting at 7:00 p.m. ET in the following ways:

Seatfiller.....I did too....I thought  IF we could get by todays game we would have a really good shot at going all the way but sadly now we're just one of 16 teams sharing the title......the ol'Classic  "Kissing your sister" ending.....I really feel for these kids- as DIII athletes they're not coddled or catered to....they have the same worries and class load as everyone else and happily accept that to continue playing a sport that they LOVE just because of the pure love of the game.....Now all they have worked for and sweated and grounded it out for is gone in an instant.... :'( :'( :'( Especially bad for our three Seniors- they won't ever get another shot......CONGRATS to all the teams that are left but especially to our JACKETS!!!

I feel bad for the kids but as I look around at more and more things closing I realize this could be a pivotal moment for our country. We have gotten away from the "shared sacrifice" that defined great events like WWII and the Great Depression. It briefly surfaced after 9/11 but got quickly buried again. As this country has split more and more along uncivil political lines, a period of shared sacrifice might help bring us back together. Or it might split us farther apart. I am hopeful, however, that we can get through this difficulty with a minimum of crazy and a maximum of concern and understanding that it is not always about our wants and needs as individuals, but our requirements and duties to each other as a society.

Hopefully these young men and women will look back on this sacrifice as something given for the greater good, not just something taken from them individually. That those who lose vacations, put off retirement, or, lets hope its kept to a minimum, lose family members, will realize that at this moment our country was able to come back together to prevent something bad from becoming catastrophic.

There is pain ahead. Economic, personal, and societal pain is all coming. I hope we can look with empathy upon each other and come back together as we have in other times and heal the divide that has festered so badly and grown so much over the last 40 years., but especially the last 25.

^^^ jk, thanks for those thoughts. I wish I could be as articulate in a moment like the one we are experiencing now.

I'm sure everyone who is paying attention already knows about the ODAC's decision as detailed here: https://odaconline.com/general/2019-20/releases/031320-odac-covid19

It seems that we are in for months of uncertainty -- how many months, no one knows. Hopefully we will be past this crisis by the end summer and the 2020-21 academic and athletic year will occur normally. But remember, we still need a vaccine for this virus that is many months away. So be careful, stay safe, and act responsibly.

Stay safe and healthy everyone.  Hopefully, our teams will be back in competition in the fall!  As others have said, keep this in perspective for the greater collective good.  Peace.

And in case you aren't on Twitter here is what it says:

"Dear Medical Professionals,

I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with everyone telling you how to do your job right now, or watch the media develop their own theories about a field they have no training or experience in. We feel your pain.

Sincerely,

Basketball Coaches"

Thanks, TQ, for being on top of all things D3hoops. The Elon bio says his dad played at Guilford. The tweet indicates that he wants to reunite with one of his best friends.

Sports Illustrated article on why sports are unlikely to return soon. Granted this is focused on pro sports, but most of the issues apply to sports at any level.
