Congrats to Guilford. What a crazy game. Defenses were insane. And the fact that CNU held Dearman to 0-15 from the floor and then he scores winning bucket just shows what a good player he is. Never give up. You never know when 1-16 does the job. Best of luck next weekend, especially this next game!

It was a crazy, chippy, intense, defensive game.  Yep, 1/16 and he hit the winning shot!  I actually initially thought CNU's heave at the buzzer went in, then realized it only grazed the net.

Hampden-Sydney HC Kimbrough played for Guilford HC Palombo for 4 years and was his Assistant for six.  To say they know each other is an understatement!

CNU is good!  The Captains were all we could handle.  Congratulations to Christopher Newport on a great season!

Go Quakers!

Thanks. We had more than enough locker room drama and the roster changed drastically. And with injuries, we were down to 4 available players who were not Freshmen. The first year guys scored 60% of the total points in that game. I think they were close to 50% for the year. The future is promising. However, we do need to find a couple of big men. We are down to 1 for next year.

The game Friday in FT Wayne should be a fun one to watch. Go Quakers!

CNU85, I actually think the semis are on Thursday, March 14 at 5:30 and 8.

Thanks. I probably knew that but clearly those brain cells are gone!

Nice article on Guilford in d3hoops.  Pretty accurate description of this year's team.

Congrats to Guilford and Hampden Sydney.  It should be a great game tonight.  Was this site down?

Anyways Roanoke had a ok season we started off rough it looked like we wouldn't even finish with a winning record.

Congrats to HS on their win.  The guys announcing the game called them Hamden, totally ignoring the letter P.  Is that how it is really pronounced , or were they just not enunciating?

Good luck to Hampden-Sydney this afternoon. Hoping the Tigers bring a third consecutive championship to Virginia.

Were they really dropping the "p"?  The correct pronunciation of Hampden-Sydney College definitely includes a "p".  See https://youtu.be/Aj_b-cxtftw?si=C3QmyfA7uoav5V0-

Been off the grid for a week or so, some catching up to do.  First of all, congrats to GC and HSC making it to the Final 4.  Wasn't able to check Trine/HSC score until late last night, just assuming that HSC had won, was greatly disappointed to see the score.  I was convinced that HSC was going to finish the deal.  Great season for HSC and GC.

As to my Jackets, a great season.  Never thought that they'd be a sweet sixteen team, so huge congrats to the players and coach.  Did not see the Calvin/RMC game, but seems that RMC simply ran out of gas, and could not control their 6-10 center, which concerned me going into the game.

Losing three senior starters, RMC needs to recruit some size.  Did see on X that they have a 6-6 guard coming.  With the current freshman and soph classes, the Jackets will be strong again next year.

As to HSC, they graduate at least eight players, including most of their major contributors.  Will be interesting to see how they develop in the off season.

As to GC, I have no clue what their roster looks like and what they lose for next year.  Maybe Hasa can help me out on that?

Again, congratulations to the ODAC and it's strong showing this season.  Was really hoping for an ODAC team as National Champs.

Yes, Calvin's Jalen Overway was too much to handle. Most players of his size and ability usually wind up at D2 or D1, though they don't all have success at those levels. These days it's more typical for a guy his size playing at D3 to not be as skilled as he is. Ben Strong and Tyler Sanborn were exceptions, but that was more than a decade ago. Remember Hunter Fromang at RMC? Greenville University in Illinois had a 7' 1" freshman this season who didn't see a minute of varsity action.

I agree with both observations -- RMC needs to get taller but also has good returning talent. Next season may be the more typical "rebuilding" year now that Mbangue, Coble and Johnson are graduating. Mbangue and Coble both started on the national championship team in 2022. Mbangue has been the glue this season. He will be tough to replace. It will be a very different team moving forward.

This year's freshman class impressed me all year.  An off season of conditioning, development, and coaching will only make them better.  6-8 Bachman could be the answer in the middle.  Also hopefully getting 6-6 Joyce back could help as well.  While having 6-9 or 6-10 height is nice, you can win at DIII with athletic 6-5 or 6-6 players (ie. Miles Mallory).  One of my favorite RMC 'big men' ever was powerfully built 6-5 Jarod Mills.

So, yes, I'm agreeing with you, just having a 7-footer on a DIII roster doesn't mean victories.  The Calvin center is the exception in DIII, tall and effective.

I watched the HSC championship game and was disappointed in the result.  HSC couldn't buy a basket in the second half after going into the half up 2.  They played hard the shooting just wasn't there for them.  But overall congrats to HSC I would be happy if Roanoke could even make the tourney.  Looking forward to a competitive ODAC season next year.

They couldn't really buy a basket in the first half either, they were just better at limiting Trine's looks.
