Tiger fan,
You ready to do "the worm?"

Tigerfan

I'll do most anything for an ODAC championship!

Roanoke comes into Saturday's big game smokin' hot.  They absolutely rolled W&L on the road, 84-57.  They've been putting up big margins of victory.  Roanoke is the favorite over H-SC in all of the computer models.

The Averett at W&L game on Wednesday is shaping up to be the game for the 8th spot in the ODAC tournament as long as AU can take care of business at home vs Randolph on Saturday.  BC could possibly get into the mix, but their remaining schedule includes VWU in Va Beach and L at home.  Shenandoah is a dark horse threat to go on a regular season ending run and sneak in: W&L at home, EMU on the road and BC at home. Not out of the question.

As if Roanoke needed any more motivation against the Tigers, the game could have a huge effect on the Maroons getting a Pool C bid if they need it.  They are currently sitting in the 20th spot for a Pool C, which is not too comfortable.  A win over the Tigers might guarantee a tournament bid for the Maroons.

Roanoke looked good last night against W and L.  Finished the half up 44-28 and after the first couple of minutes in the second half they were up 20 the rest of the way through. I don't believe Roanoke is the favorite in their game Saturday for them it will come down to stopping HSC's posts.  That has been our downfall in almost all of our losses (posts scoring and offensive rebounding). HSC is #1 in the ODAC this season for a reason. Roanoke will need their best game this season to defeat HSC.

I was hoping that W&L might tire the Maroons a little bit.  Nope.  Joshua McClary had 23 points and Marcus Morgan 17 in 19 minutes.  I don't think they even broke a sweat.  :o

Quote from: Pat Coleman on February 13, 2025, 12:18:41 PMTotally agree that Lynchburg is not LU but you can't actually expect people to not call "University of Lynchburg" by the abbreviation "U of L."

So you are in agreement with TPFKASTH*?   :)

Tigerfan,
D3Datacast currently projects Roanoke as a solid chance to get a pool C.  VWU is on the bubble and Guilford as probably out.  They project that HSC and Macon are a Lock/Near Lock.  This is of course why we play the games.  See what happens over the next two weeks!

By the way, HSC would be ahead of Macon now in Regional Rankings based on the NPI numbers at D3Datacast after their victory over Guilford.  D3Datacast was about 5 hundredths off of what the NCAA had as the difference between HSC and RC at the 2nd regional ranking.  Roanoke is another opportunity for HSC to pick up a quality win and improve their NPI more.

The discrepancies between the D3Datacast NPI numbers and the NCAA NPI numbers are because 3 matchups have been erroneously coded in the last 2 weeks of summary reports, which has skewed the official NPI numbers a bit from what D3Datacast has produced.

(1)  There is a November 11, 2024 game between New England College and Dean in Region I that should have been entered into the NCAA stats system as a non-conference game.  The GNAC plays a single round robin this year in both men's and women's basketball, and the only official GNAC conference game that was played in the first semester was one in December when St. Joseph's (Maine) played at Univ. of St. Joseph (CT).  The official GNAC conference game between New England College and Dean was played in January, 2025.

(2)  The Coast to Coast conference, by conference policy, does not have regular season conference games.  The only conference obligation demanded of its 5 members is to play in the conference tournament in the last week of the regular season to determine the AQ.  The C2C uses the NPI numbers to determine its seeding.  C2C members are encouraged to voluntarily develop schedules that allow members to play against each other prior to the conference tournament, but they are not mandated to do so.

The case in point is that UC Santa Cruz played games at Salisbury and Christopher Newport a few weeks ago, which have been erroneously coded in the NCAA stats system as conference games.  These matches are actually non-conference games. (I thought that C2C men's basketball Tournament games counted as conference games but since C2C members could opt out of the men's basketball conference tournament by Feb. 6, 2025, I am not quite so sure now.   Sorry, Greek Tragedy, if I confused you earlier.)

I have heard that at least in the case of UC Santa Cruz, the problem has been corrected, but we will not find out for sure until the next official DIII NPI summary report on the NCAA stats system gets published on Monday.

The reports can be found at http://stats.ncaa.org/selection_rankings/nitty_gritties To check the schedule data that was used to determine the NPI in the official summary reports published each time official reports come out, just click on the number of the NPI national ranking listed for each team.

Thanks Desi!

I should also mention that Roanoke also has a chance to pick up another quality win against HSC tomorrow and improve their NPI.  It is a two-way street!

Are members obligated to play in the conference tournament now? Is that a new policy? I thought they had a choice in the past. I could be wrong, though.

C2C members can still opt out of the conference tournament, but the deadline to do so for this men's basketball tournament has already passed if the member hasn't done so already.   The deadline is no later than 3 weeks prior to the start of the conference tournament per league policy, or February 6, 2025 in the case of this year's C2C men's basketball conference tournament.

Greek Tragedy

Ok. You just said they were obligated in that post but they actually aren't. I was confused. Thanks for clarifying.

My mistake if you got confused.  I will edit the post to clarify.  Thanks.

Update-- Previous post edited for clarification of my thoughts.

Roanoke with a huge win against HSC 81-72. Unfortunately I didn't get to see it but sounded like it went back and forth. Roanoke now sits at #2 in the conference and has Ferrum on Wednesday at home.

RC can't afford a let down the last 2-3 games to have a shot at a at large bid if we don't win the odac.
