I didn't get the HSC game last nite but sounds like ANOTHER very, very poor performance. I frankly do not understand the game well enough to offer an explanation other than to say, the Tigers just aren't that good. Not having Kasse explains some of it, but shooting 26% with 13 turnovers in the 2nd half goes way past not having your best player. Something is wrong and it doesn't appear to be improving anytime soon. This season is almost a mirror image of last year but in reverse. The team folded early last year and made a run in the second half; this year they start 11-0 and fold at the end. Peaks and valleys are to be expected but good teams know how to manage the valleys and extend the peaks. It is just not happening right now at HSC. We'll see what the balance of the season holds. Go Tigers and good luck to the rest of ODAC teams !!!!

Too early to give up on the Tigers JUST YET, TFA.  I take nothing for granted in the ODAC.  I agree with your assessment and admire your objectivity, but adjustments can still be made.

I'm not giving as much as I'm being honest .... Hopefully things will improve @ HSC but I'm not all that hopeful. B'ball is a funny game and anything can happen, so I'll hope for the best for my Tigers ... either way I win because I get to watch the remainder of the ODAC season and follow the ODAC representative(s) into the NCAA's. How tough can it be !!!

You've GOT like that attitude.

You've GOT like that attitude.

You sure do.  It's also likely to get tigerfanalso into trouble with the Tiger fanatics, for whom objectivity is not necessarily a virtue.   :)

My Maroons have been very inconsistent this season, giving me lots of opportunities to be optimistic about the season, followed almost immediately with great frustration at their inept play.  I've got a feeling that Roanoke is going to go on a six game sprint-to-the-regular-season-finish starting tonight against Emory & Henry.  I've been impressed with the development of the Wasps during the second half of the season, and they will be a very tough opponent at their place tonight.  However, I think Jared Butler and A.J. Dowell will provide the necessary guard play to break the press and keep the pace of the game under control.  Roanoke by 8, with the winning score in the eighties.

Jeloesel, thank goodness you posted.  I was beginning to worry the site was down.  Can't believe the ODAC board was this quiet.  What, did the SOU address knock everyone senseless?

Just wanted to talk about the above statement.  Jared Butler and AJ Dowell are very competent guards in the ODAC.  The problem with them playing against Emory tonight is that they are going to need more than them to break the press because the Wasps just keep going at you.  VWC was successful because they had about 5 pgs that were handling the ball out there.  I know Laporte can handle it a bit, but I dont see the Maroons coming into Emory and holding them to 80 points.  That might happen if they zone the Wasps.  Regardless of what happened this weekend, the Wasps will be flying hi in front of a great home crowd.

Zone a team that shoots the three pointer like it's going out of style? Playing zone against E&H is begging and praying to God (or Allah or whoever they may or may not worship) for the Wasps to kick your a$$.

Forget predicting what the Wasps are going to do; they live by the three and die by the three and because of that they are not a very good team. They can beat anybody on a given nite but are not going to  be very good game to game because of their style. Catch them when they are hot and you will get beat, but their style prevents them from winning very often, or often enough to compete for the conference title. Sorry to all of you Wasps fans ...   but reality is what it is !!!!!!

As far as Roanoke going on a six game run, that ain't going to happen either unless they get five transfer students in by the weekend that just happen to be really good b'ball players..... Reality strikes again !!!!!

Just a quick note to let everyone know that Randolph-Macon is planning a website broadcast of the men's game at Virginia Wesleyan this coming Saturday, Feb. 4th at 3:00 p.m.  Our usual crew, Marty Wilson and Andrew Price, will be calling the game.  They'll go on at about 2:45 or 2:50.

VWC also does live stats now, which is a really nice feature:

Should be a fun Saturday.

I'n not sure it's fair to say E&H isnt a good team...Even without one of the top guards in the ODAC, Reasbeck, they have a very respectable team.  They have a lot of great shooters and some really good slashers to go along with a couple big men who can rebound and block shots.  Just because they are playing a different style than every other team doesn't make them a bad team.  Good teams find ways to win, and thats what they have done the 2nd half of the season.  The way they shot against VWC, in a "normal" style game, the Wasps would lost by around 20 and not 40....It's like calling WVU not a very good team, because they shoot more 3's than a lot of other teams, but they are on top of the Big East and I am certain not many teams would like to play them in the NCAA Tournament.  The point is sometimes the shots dont fall and when they dont, you lose.  That's the way basketball is in any "system."

tigerfanalso

I'm not a coach....but the only reason a team purposely shoots an abnormal amount of threes is because they don't have the talent to match up and play a traditional style. According to your post E&H has really good talent; big guys, shooters, slashers, everything needed to be a good team. I've seen them once and frankly, I didn't see all of that talent. Not a knock on your Wasps just the way I see it. Good luck the remainder of the year and I hope ya'll beat everybody but HSC(again).....
