ODACfan1 - that was totally undeserved. 1) there are some great VWC fans, ardent and enthusiastic; 2) VWC fans are very complimentary. You owe us an apology my friend.

ODACfan1

I apologize if my previous post was offensive to VWC fans, I certainly did not mean to offend you...I really felt that your post was trying to make E&H look bad.  I was offended as a loyal WASP fan.  As for the reputation, I was referring to the players...but the only way I gathered that was through the post of people on this message board.  I am sure that there are some great fans, and you are probably one of them.  My apologies.

On a lighter note, who are the leading candidates for freshman of the year right now?

I'm not sure who would be in the running for FOY. I've seen RMC, HSC, VWC, EMU, and E&H play so far and the point guard for RMC is the best freshman I've seen so far. I can't recall his name but he is a player. An other thoughts out there ???

R-MC's point guard is Justin Short.  He is definitely in the running for FOY as is David Carlson from R-MC in my opinion.

For me, however, nothing is more interesting than the emergence of E&H. There was a great deal of discussion about the merits of "the system" last season when Coach Johnson turned to it and there has been a reprise of that discussion recently. Without discussing the merits of "the system"  I would be very interested in hearing some opinions on how E&H has gone from a winless "cellar dweller" to a team that is a virtual tournament lock... I would love to hear some objective chatter as to why the turnaround.

xcoach,
I think it's the result of the freshmen learning the system and making positive contributions.  To make the system work, you need three teams, with a fresh bunch coming in after about a minute of play by the last group.  If play stopped right on the second so you could send in the next group, it would result in the starting group getting 14 minutes and the second and third group getting 13 minutes.  Early in the season, coach Johnson was playing some of the players as much as 20 minutes and only 11 players were getting getting double-digit minutes.  With the development of freshmen (and some upper classmen), the time distribution is much closer to the "ideal".  Coach Johnson is now playing 14 players in regular rotations with two players taking turns filling the fifth spot on the third group.  I think this allows for more "team" cohesion within the three groups.

I haven't done the analysis of the differences this has made in the statistics, especially for the third group of players, but my guess is that they have played better defense, especially in creating turnovers and holding down Wasp turnovers as well.  The improvement is probably not great, but enough to win rather than lose the close ones.

Rip.

Is Justin Short related to Jordan Short? - former CNU player who could shoot the 3s from anywhere. Jordan is still a CNU student last I heard. just curious if you knew. thanks.

Check out the release on VWCs' website(follow link to Athletics) about Saturday's game: a match-up of Adair vs. Wansley. This should be a great game. There's a lot of excitement building around this one. Hope the Marlin faithful are there by the hundreds.

ODACfan1-

For you to question the graciousness of the VWC fans makes me seriously question whether or not you have actually ever attended an E&H home game.

I remember some particularly ungracious fans during my visits to E&H.  What I would consider the worst in the ODAC.

Just my 2 cents.

oldfish...I would say that are fan support has been absolutely fantastic this year.  And anything said by our students towards officials, players, or fans has been minimal due to the fact that the Emory and Henry AD wont allow it this year.  I am not sure how it has been in the past.  Yes there are some loud fans in the King Center, but I think that is directed towards referees and not fans.

ODACfan1 - do they still pump up the heat to about 200 degrees for visiting teams? That had to be the hottest gym in the ODAC.

Well, it's worked for Duke for years at Cameron Indoor Stadium, so maybe everyone else is trying it.  :)

cnu 85, not sure if they are related.  Justin went to HS here in Richmond.  Is Jordan from up this way or down near the beach?

Im afraid that you guys are absolutely right.  The heat is always up in the gym.  As a fan its sometimes hard to sit still its so hot.  Im guessing that Bob Johnson does that to look for some kind of competitive advantage.  I think the Emory players have grown accustomed to it, they are a pretty good home team.  I will be traveling this weekend for work, so I would love some updates on all the ODAC games, especially the Wasps @ EMU and BC.
