Just a Fan 02-- Can you provide more details from the game today. Sounds like Wansley played but was ineffective, probably a little tentative and trying to get his wind back .

VWC 68  RMC  52  Final

Adair leads all scorers with 21, Balenga with 15 and Hawley had 10 (all in first half).

VWC dominated from the start.  The guard pressure was just too much for the Jackets to handle and no one could guard Brandon Adair.

It was good to see Wansley back on the court, but he wasn't moving very well.  If Wansley gets back to 100% and RMC gets someone who can handle the ball, they will be ok.

So, Hasanova,
Where are you?  Guilford is up here for 4 games.  They were at BC today.  BC won the girls game and GC won the guys game.  GC really looked good out there.  I met Ben Strong's parents.  They sat near me during the game.  Caleb (#13) is an extremely capable floor leader and can he shoot?  They looked so good today.  They passed well, they made good shot selections, and they made their shots, they know how to  get both offensive and defensive rebounds.  It was a total team effort.  Ben Strong looked great.  He did well even away from the basket.  I was impressed.  The less said about how we did the better. :( :(  I kept asking if Hasanova were there and whether anyone knew Hasanova or GCOL.  Andy, with the team(but I don't know if he's a player, coach, assistant or whatever--they all look so young!), says that he met you the other week.  I told him that we had a brownie date for the football game in the fall down at Guilford.  That put a smile on his face, so I brought out some brownies as I had made 5 pans for the Eagle Club lucnh and dinner pre-games festivities.    Tomorrow they play at EMU who lost to E&H by a point today.  Just thought I would ask about you.   ;D ;D ;D  Sending e-brownies, which is pretty good, considering your team stomped mine today. :(   Hasta Hasa!

Hey olinemom, thanks for asking about me.  Yes, I did introduce myself to Andy Sharpe a week or so ago - I believe he goes by coopersharpe in d3hoops.com.   He's a player - good kid - had a broken foot (or leg, not sure) in the fall and had to sit out this year.  I hope he'll be healed and ready to play next season.  Sorry I wasn't able to attend or even listen today.  I have a Manager's job M-F, but decided to deliver phone books in January and early February - tomorrow will be the last day.  My back was killing me the first week, but not too bad the last two weeks - put on an Everlast weight-lifting belt.  lol.  Greensboro has a BIG phone book and you have to deliver it and a smaller Yellow Pages book to every address!  Ouch.  I do about 600-800 of each every weekend.

Yes, I've been very impressed with Ben and I've also met his parents.  I've also met Caleb's Dad (who often wears a clerical collar to games since he's a minister in Chapel Hill - I haven't asked him, but I'm guessing Lutheran or Episcopalian).  Ben and Caleb, by the way, were HS teammates.  Caleb can shoot some when the need arises, but Snipes is the "go to" guy for scoring in the guard spot.

I was hoping the GC men and women would both win, but the scores went about the way I expected.  The GC men are pretty fair and the BC women are quite good.

Thanks for the e-brownies.  They were great!  Looking forward to the real thing when the Eagles fly into Guilford next fall.   Thanks again.

eagleslam - if you attended the GC/BC men's game today, I'd be interested in your first-hand assessment of Ben Strong.  I haven't seen a boxscore, but kid said he got 20 and olinemom said he looked good.

Disclaimer:  I was going to post this no matter if EMU won or lost.

I saw the worst officiated ODAC game ever tonight at EMU.  Can ther refs be any more inconsistent (for both teams)?  Coach Dean gets a "T" for stomping his foot! I have seen alot worse.  Give me a break. 5 times in the first half, the refs made completely wrong out of bound calls that went against both teams.  Twice, one ref didn't see it and asked for help and instead of going to a jump ball, they would try to make a judgement call.  Each time they were way off.  I am talking way off.  Once again going against and for EMU.

My biggest concern is the refs are so darn inconsistent.  Is their some sort of way that the officials are held accountable?  I know in a Texas association, at the beginning of the season, the head coach is given a list of officials and they are allowed to remove 3 names from the list.  That way, if a head coach feels he has been not getting fair treatment, he doesn't have to deal with him for any conference games.  Plus, the ref never finds out.

That being said, EMU didn't lose because of the refs.  Turnovers, Technical fouls and fouling a three point shooter while the shot goes in, twice, did cause EMU to lose.

Good luck tomorrow EMU!

VW,

To me it just looked like the Marlins were more aggressive and athletic than the Yellow Jackets.  Hawley was big in the first half, but Macedo made some adjustments at half and held him scoreless in the second half.  Officiating was Horrific!  It was bad both ways and this game was very physical.  A lot of hard, hard fouls.

Adair and Hawley went at it a couple times, both are fierce competitors.

emu fan....i completely agree with what you said....100%. i listened to the game online and the announcers said the same thing you said..going against both teams. complete bad calls all night and inconsistence....i hope this doesnt happen tomorrow.

Hello everyone, I am a new poster but have been reading for a while and enjoy the competitive nature of the ODAC in baseball and basketball. Look forward to getting ripped by veteran posters.

How does everyone feel about the possibility of the ODAC getting 2 teams in the "big dance" and does todays VWC win make RMC and others have to win the tourney to get in. Can VWC get beat in the first round and still make it??????

eagleslam

hasanova...

I was not in attendance.  A quick look in the box score, though, does show Strong had a great game: 20 points, 12 rebounds, 6-10 FG, and 8-8 FT.  He has now worked his way to 8th in the league in rebounding, and that was before yesterday's game.  I now say he is a 1st Team performer, with Bieneman moving out.

As for the officials, it is a little humerous that it comes from EMU fans.  EMU has shot more free throws than any team in the ODAC this year, shot 33 yesterday compared to E&H's 22, and were playing at home.  I know the refs were not "blamed" for the loss, and it was stated that they were inconsistant for both teams, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

But my question is this, to all posters.  Is it the calls that are made that are upsetting, or the ones that aren't?  In the games I have seen this year, when the whistle blows and a call is made, I thought it has been a good call a great majority of the time.  Obviously, human error and interpretation comes into play at times, especially on charge/block calls.  It's the no calls that are clearly seen by everyone in the building except for the officials that boggle my mind.  As for consistancy during the game, I think it has acutally gotten better this year.  I have not seen a lot of games, or don't recall them if I have, where one half has 10+ fouls called on a team and then 5 in the other.  Also, palming the basketball was supposed to be the point of emphasis this year.  Instead, it has been the illegal screen.  Nothing wrong with that, but it should have been stated that way at the start of the season.

Thanks for the analysis, man.  I am disappointed R-M did not make a better showing, though.  Good to see Wans played, but other players should've stepped up.

Eagleslam,

I am not even talking about fouls so much.

Last night, the refs couldn't even get an in bounds call right.  Everyone knows the charge vs a block call is the hardest to make, but last night that wasn't the problem, everything was called a charge last night.  I believe their was 6 charges called.  I hate that on 6 occasions, their was no doubt in my mind that the wrong call as made on an out of bounds call and only once did an offical overturn another.
