As for the format of the ODAC Tournament, the opinions of posters do not come as a complete shock.  It is of no surprise hasanova wants a change to at least the first round games at the higher seed (GC, the next few years, has a good chance of being in the top 4).  And, considering that the Quakers do not have as much fan base because of the travel, it makes that much more sense.  It is of no surprise 3sdown wants a home-court advantage throughout the tournament.  Macon always has a chance to host the title game and always has a chance to be a #1 seed.  It is of no surprise Algernon likes the ODAC Tournament in Salem.  The Tigers have a lot of people from Farm Vegas able to make the trip.  And it does seem that whenever Macon and Sydney play, more Tiger fans show up because of the proximity.  Another reason 3sdown would want the home court advantage.  Jim obviously likes it because it is played in Roanoke's back yard.  I'm not saying these are right or wrong reasons for wanting the venue changed or not.  I'm just saying I think that it shapes the opinion of everyone, not just those who are posting.

Good Luck to all ODAC teams this weekend and lets hope fans show up to support their teams and the conference in general. If VWC and RMC make it to the finals, the championship game should be very competitive. However looking over  the bracket  I think there are some real good upset possibilities. Again, good luck, safe travel and lets hope the ODAC earns two NCAA bids.

Eagleslam-

Quite honestly since I live and work (as well as attend graduate classes) in Blacksburg the tournament being held in Salem is much more convenient for me b/c it is only a 30 minute ride for me.  For me the issue has nothing to do with the fact that Macon wins in the ODAC.  The issue is that I would like to see a better environment at the ODAC Semi-Final and Final Games.

The proposed changes noted by Jim in my opinion are an attempt to do this and a rather decent attempt.  I think the changes will help with excitement and attendance at the games.  You must be a business man?  It seems to me that at some point the unabashed motive of "self-interest" was instilled in your view of humans.  Well, you don't have me pinned down in that regard...I could  care less who is winning.  The games would be better attended and the enviroment more "college-like" if they were at the higher-seeds regardless of who is winning or who isn't!!!!

steely - are these "games" being played in on-campus venues or on a nuetral  court...i just want to know if i have the home-court advantage of 247 completely silent monarch fans, or if i'm going to have to travel to a cavernous arena to play jacketlawyer in front of 184 equally silent fans who are really there for the big  match-up between mr_divac and stillfamily and have no allegiance to my team or to jacketlawyer's team :)

should we submit picks via personal message or post them (or both?)

Honestly, eagleslam, I'm too fair minded to want a change in the ODAC tournament format just because Guilford may stand to benefit the next few years.   I hadn't even thought of that angle, so your mind works in a different way than mine does.  I proposed that format because I sincerely think it's the right way to do it.  I really wish you would not use that stance to justify something I said because that's not how I think, not how I feel and not how I intended it.  By the way, I don't believe all your First Team picks will make the official First Team.       ;)

I agree.  Safe travels to everyone.

Combining the two tournaments on the same weekend makes sense to me.   It's a positive step.   Personally, I've never liked the fact that the men's tournament is so "early" and then there is the additional wait before the NCAA tournament begins.  As far as the "decision-making" process is concerned, someone on the outside looking in is obviously not privy to all the facts and options.  I am absolutely certain the men and women who do make the decisions are carefully weighing all the facts and figures and trying to make the best choices they can.  With that said, however, if there's ever an opportunity to be a part of the ODAC decision-making process, I would jump at the chance.

Quarterfinal picks:

VWC, 75 v. EMU, 60

Guilford, 90 v. E&H, 100

R-M, 80 v. BC, 76

H-S, 70 v. RC, 69

C'mon, Narch, let's have some fun!  I had to factor in the end of the season "writing on the wall" for some of my scores.

On Andy Albright: congratulations!

On ODAC tournament:  I like it where it is, since I live in Lynchburg.

On Steely and "Kid" keeping the stats and sliding the abacus:  Thanks very much!!

3sdown...

As for the changes, I think they will increase attendance and hopefully, excitement.  They will have to alternate who plays Thursday and Friday every year due to Title IX, and although that may have an effect every other year for the quarter-finals, the semi's and finals will certinaly benefit every year, especially if one school performs well in both.  As for my profession, I'm not a business man.  I'm a teacher.  A profession that has one of the smallest levels of "self-interest in humans".  I'm not trying to pin you down or make you look selfish.  Maybe your issue is a better environment.  But Macon has a better environment in Crenshaw than at the SCC.  But why does the game have to be at the highest seed?  Why not have a championship game between Macon and Wesleyan at Fleet?  Split the tickets 50/50.  It's a neutral floor, but the atmosphere would be "college like".  You know how loud that place gets.  Both teams fans, and students, would have equal opportunity to purchase tickets.  This particular game at Fleet would have a great atmosphere, but not give anyone home court advantage.  The Marlins would have to travel a little farther, but I think, if it were on a Saturday night, their fans would make the trip.

hasanova...

If you say that is not how you think or intended it, I believe you.  Unfortunately, I also believe that my First Team will not be the official one.    :(

eagleslam - thanks.  I appreciate that.  I want the Quakers to win, but honestly never at the expense of what I consider fair play.  Regarding First Team, I respect your opinion and your candor.  It will be very interesting to see who the official picks are.  In the final analysis, however, all the 1st Team, 2nd Team and Honorable Mention honorees are fine players and should be applauded.

As we move toward the tournament this weekend, thanks to Loesel, Steely, and the kid for making this posting up season most enjoyable. I suppose we need to thank Mr. Coleman, too, for making it all possible. Thanks Pat!
