Here are my 4 nominations for FOY (a.k.a. BIFY or BOY):

David Carlson:     9.4 PTS,  3.4 RB,  51% FG%,  36% 3FG%,  1.4 A,  0.8 ST,  19 Minutes
Isaiah Goodman:  9.3 PTS,  2.4 RB,  40% FG%,  37% 3FG%,  2.0 A,  1.4 ST,  28 Minutes
Curtis Peery:       8.2 PTS,  4.2 RB,  54% FG%,  0-0 from 3,   0.8 A,  0.7 ST,  20 Minutes
Justin Short:       4.8 PTS,  2.1 RB,  48% FG%,  3-5 from 3,   2.7 A,  0.7 ST,  22 Minutes

And I think I'd have to vote for David Carlson.

You know, hasanova, we're never going to get a rationale answer to this one. The tournament can't get here fast enough! :)

Yeah you are right!

I guess the gender friendly, "Freshperson of the Year" wouldn't quite make the grade in this case either.  Unfortunately I had many ladies accuse me of resembling that nomer, ever through my Senior / Last year of college. :-\ ;D
"The Dali Llama"

Bridgewater Football 1980,2001,2002,2003,2004,2005 ODAC Champions!

Thank you, Algernon. I would have to agree.

OK, why didn't someone tell me there was a "rational" factor in this equation!?  Would someone please copy me on all memos!?  lol  All I know is the 2006 FOY-BOY-BIFY won't be from Guilford.  With apologies to Elaine on Seinfeld, I don't see any FOY-worthy Quakers this year.  :(

I agree, bring on the tournament!  :)

I hear you.  Yeah, "Freshperson of the Year" probably wouldn't cut it, although it may not carry exactly the same weight it once did.  :)

Years ago, at Wake Forest University, I listened to a speech at Tarheel Boys State given by the late Thad Eure (pronounced like "you're"), who was the long-time Secretary of State in NC.  He said when he matriculated at NCSU no one could remember how to pronounce his last name until someone figured out they could just call him "Freshman Eure."  He probably would have jumped at the chance to be called "First Year Eure."   ;)

Of course while I would vote for the Maroon's Curtis Peery for FOY, I think it will go to Cain Landreth from E&H.  He's averaging 12.6 points in about 13 minutes.  You could make a strong case for Camillo Weinz (9.2) or Robert Hudson (8.9) from E&H as well.  Those three bombers have made the difference in Johnson's mad house scheme this year.

You know, some stats (such as FG%, FT%, Assist to Turnover ratio, etc.)  stay the same regardless of the coaching style.  I have to tell you, however, when I look at other stats from E&H (or any school utilizing the "system"), I mentally take about 2/3 of the absolute value.  Maybe that isn't fair, but I just don't look at 12.6 ppg in 13 minutes at E&H in the same light as I would if a player got the same stats at one of the other nine men's programs in the ODAC.  It's currently more like apples to oranges, so I reduce the 12.6 to about 8 ppg when I'm trying to compare head-to-head.

Jim, I'd have a hard time with any of the E&H Freshmen for FOY.  I must admit that it's hard for me to put a face with most the E&H players' names, since I can't keep track of who's on the floor at any given time.  I'm not sure who most of these guys are.

Cain Landreth has lots of experience in putting up the 3, since he averages 14 FG attempts a game, with 13 of them from behind the arc.  However, he hits only 27% of his 3-point shots.  Plus, his Assist to TO ratio is only 0.5.

Weinz is a little better, hitting 29% of his 3-point attempts, and having an A/TO ratio of 0.7.

Hudson's about the same -- 29% from behind the arc, with an A/TO ratio of 1.1.

All of these guys get fewer than 2 rebounds a game.

Pre season ranking                  Actual
1. VW                                        VW
2. RM                                         RM
3. HS                                         HS
4. R                                           G
5. EM                                         E&H
6. G                                           R
7. B                                           B
8. L                                           EM
9. E&H                                       W&L
10. W&L                                     L

Biggest descrepancies with E&H and EM.  Except for VW, I think the on any given day principle really took hold this year. Any thoughts?

Tigerfanalso - Since when does a 17-7 record mean that you are a bad team? So when the Tigers were 11-0 and ranked #11 in the country, how come I did not see you on the board singing their praises? Now after they hit a few bumps and still have a respectable record and third seed in a very competitive ODAC you come out and start criticizing the team. I know you say you are giving an "honest assessment" but an honest assessment only when the team is struggling appears a bit "bandwagonish." Let me also assume that you think because the New England Patriots didn't make the Super Bowl this season they are washed up, or "not very good" as you have described the Tigers. Please do us all a favor, speaking as a true Tigers fan through thick and thin, and hop off the bandwagon for good. And continue "lowering your expectations every October," becuase I'm sure the team won't have any problem proving you wrong year in and year out...

I appreciate your opinion, but try and look at some of the positive accomplishments this YOUNG team (a team that has only had two contributing seniors total in the past two seasons) has made and don't take such a negative approach to a team that still remains as one of the preimer powers in the conference.

Of course I agree with Algernon on his pick VWC to defeat the emus, but I think the score will be much higher than he predicts.  I'll go VWC 85-EMU 70

I don't think he's wrong picking Macon over Bridgewater, although I wouldn't expect the Yellow Jackets to get separation until the end.  R-MC 68-BC 60.

I also don't disagree with his pick of E&H over Guilford, even though I disagree with his assessment of E&H freshmen.  I think hasanova and Algernon are going to learn some names of individual Wasp shooters, starting on Saturday.  The point total will be a little lower than you might expect due to the different background in the Salem Civic Center that may affect the three-point shooters in the first half.  E&H 95-Guilford 90.

However, it is my sworn, constitutional duty to disagree with Algernon about the outcome of the Sydney-Roanoke game.  I will be there to record the Maroon win in photographs, in case Algernon, at some later date, would like to remember the 2006 Peery vs. Kaase classic clash ....
Roanoke 68--H-SC 64.

Hey, I never made a prediction on this game.  I also never said I didn't know who the E&H players are.   We all know it's tough to beat a good team three times in one season, so I'm honestly not sure what'll happen tomorrow afternoon.  Obviously, I'm rooting for Guilford, but who knows?  It is, after all, #4 vs #5 and they're both 10-8, so it should be a toss-up.  Go Quakers!
