TFA,

I think it's clear to the regular posters on the board that you are doing your best to provide an objective analysis about the team you support.  I, for one, appreciate opinions that aren't provided through "rose-colored" glasses all of the time.  You have stated all along that the Tigers aren't as good as they have been in the past.  That's your opinion; that's also my opinion; and I think one could reasonably state that it is also fact.  But, stating the fact/opinion doesn't necessarily mean that you are criticizing them to a point that you no longer have faith that they will return to the top of the ODAC in the near future or that you are going to stop supporting them.

"?" or "The Riddler" is likely just a one-time poster who had nothing better to do than to criticize you at 12:30 in the morning.  It would be nice if he/she could offer some objective analysis or incite about the current Tiger team other than "Oh boy! I love the Tigers!  Shame on you for saying they are bad!   You are now on the "negative" bandwagon!" (actually, I thought hopping on the bandwagon referred to supporting a positive, and not a negative.)

Anyhow, keep bringing the posts!  Even I don't agree with all of them, but I think we agree on a lot.  And since you don't follow the NFL, I'll speak for you and state in my humble opinion that the New England Patriots are definitely not as good as they were last year!  I'll even lay money down on it. ;D

I say E&H games are exciting.  I saw both their games against Guilford, and they were both exciting and entertaining.

I only saw the game in Greensboro, but I agree with sludge.  The Wasps impressed me as a pretty fair team and one I felt relieved to see the Quakers down 109-106.  It should be noted, however, that GC was a combined 0 for 2 (no attempts in second game) on three-pointers in their two regular season wins versus E&H while the Wasps were a combined 44 of 151 (a record 97 attempts in the first game).  If E&H hits more than 29%, however, it could be a different story.  Go Quakers!

I'm looking forward to witnessing the system myself this weekend. Is it kind of like watching a school of piranhas? I wonder how the system will hold up to the pressure of the ODAC championships. Will it hurt E&H recruiting in the future or is there less emphasis on recruiting top players and more emphasis on teaching the system to mediocre players who are in shape?

What you will see as a team that plays extremely hard.  I am hoping that his is a coming out party for those that havent seen Emory and Henry play this year.  It is much different than last year and the beginning of this year.

System or no system, Bob Johnson is one hell of a coach.  He has proven that in the years prior to the system.  For those who say he doesn't do a good job recruiting, I challenge you to join the private school recruiting game.  Good luck!!!

I have said it before:  Not sure I would use the system, but I enjoy watching it played very much.  Entertaining....it is!

Oh and by the way....they did win more games with the system than the teams behind them in the ODAC.  I would rather look bad and win than look good and lose, period!

"Just win, baby!"  Oakland Raiders motto.

I know it's likely at least one upset (seeding wise) will occur, but I'll be on the safe side and pick the "favorites."

In terms of recruiting, Bob Johnson also has to deal with the fact that there are a lot of players who don't really want to attend college in Washington County, Virginia, where the towns close by are as little-known as Saltville, Hayters Gap, Glade Spring, Plasterco, Lodi, and Damascus, where a town with 43,000 people (Bristol, both parts) is a comparative metropolis that's only 20-25 miles away, and it's almost a full 2 hours to a city the size of Roanoke!

My understanding is that most of those who do choose to attend Emory & Henry develop a strong fondness for and loyalty to the college.

Jim ... Steelyglen's got it right.  Remember that there are moonpies and RC's on the line here!  I think that there is still time to put away your heart and go with your head.  You can still pick who you know is going to win this big rivalry game between the Tigers and Maroons .... before it's too late!  :)

Steelyglen ...  If it's OK, I'd like to retract my semifinal picks until after the quarterfinals are done.  My pick of E&H to beat Guilford may turn out wrong, and I may need to choose between the Marlins and the Quakers in the semifinals, rather than between the Marlins and the Wasps.

Algernaon,
I'd run the 45 variables through the Bobby Knight Game Day Simulation program, and it had the Maroons winning by 8.  In a moment of sympathy for poor "?", who seems distraught at the prospect of the Tigers not being as good as they have been in past years, I shaved the margin to four.  But, if you want me to go strictly with the head, I'll revise my pick to Roanoke 70-62.   :P  I'm so confident of my pick of Roanoke, I'm willing to make a side bet of a bottle of RC.  (I have one left over from Stan Bright's shipment last year and it may not meet health standards much longer.)   :D

BTW, I noticed you are already backing away from your picks this weekend.  I object to you making any changes in your picks, especially within four minutes of the end of the game.   ;)
