I'm so confident of my pick of Roanoke, I'm willing to make a side bet of a bottle of RC.  (I have one left over from Stan Bright's shipment last year and it may not meet health standards much longer.)   :D

Jim  -  I'll take that bet, and it's good that you've got a bottle from last year's shipment, so you'll be able to pay up after the Tiger's "W".

Nevertheless, I guess I shouldn't be so certain about the Tigers' victory that I arrive at the game without an RC .... Hmmm, perhaps I should ask Scottie where to find one.  :)

If you can't find any locally, there's a website called www.shopbettys.com (Betty's Country Store) that has a full selection of long neck glass bottle sodas such as RC, Cheerwine, Sun Drop, Nehi, Diet Rite, A&W, etc for $1.09 ... and there's more!  Double-decker moon pies in assorted flavors are 59 cents.  Finally, the piece de resistance, a long neck RC Cola and Moon Pie combo-pack for $1.59 - so you save nine cents!   Too funny!   :D

Which reminds me....Stan, what are your plans to deliver the Moon Pies and RC from the Lynchburg-won't-finish-.500-this-season bet ?  No < intermediary, I trust.   :)

Thanks, hasanova.  It's a bit late for the on-line stuff ... but perhaps Scottie can help me with this one.  I know that he must have the low-down on where I can find one around Lynchburg ....

Will some of you be at the Marlins/Royals game and/or the Wasps/Quakers game?  If so, I'm wondering if there's a poster who could call or text the game scores to my cell phone, as we'll be driving to Salem at that time and wondering who's winning the first two games .....

I wouldn't be surprised at all if E&H lost their opening round game, they struggle away from home because they don't have the advantage of cranking up the tempreature to a hundred thousand degrees.

Excellent article on Emory & Henry's Bob Johnson in Harrisonburg's Daily News-Record;

http://www.dnronline.com/sports_details.php?AID=3047&CHID=3
not sure i would call it exciting. more like ugly. i just dont see how shooting 35% overall can be exciting. also dont see how jacking up any shot you can get is exciting either. an exciting basketball ame for me doesnt involve a team taking well over 50 three pointers a game and not even making 20. maybe if they scored 100 a game playing a more traditional type of offense where they executed proficiently on offense would make it exciting.
Scottie, I guess I saw the article from a slightly different perspective, but maybe that's partly because my age is a lot closer to Coach Johnson's than yours.   Please understand, from a basketball point of view, I am not a big fan of "the System" and I have stated that several times in previous posts.  I am, however, a big fan of reinventing yourself from time to time to make life more interesting.  Hang on to that article and read it again when you're 55 and you've been working for over 30 years.  I'm willing to bet you'll read it and say, "Way to go, Bob!"   :)

lol. maybe i will think differently by then!

well considering i dont purchase RCs or Moon Pies unless i lose a bet with someone on this board, I won't be much help, but I'd suggest various "dollar" stores like dollar tree, convenience stores, and kroger (occasionally i've seen RCs at kroger)

Great!  I've felt for some time that Strong would be First Team and Snipes HM.

Congratulations also to Adair and Michael.  I've seen them both be tough packages to handle in the opposition.  The other folks I don't know so well, but I wish all ODAC players joy in their lives.

Absolutely, congratulations to all the honorees.

In terms of recruiting, Bob Johnson also has to deal with the fact that there are a lot of players who don't really want to attend college in Washington County, Virginia, where the towns close by are as little-known as Saltville, Hayters Gap, Glade Spring, Plasterco, Lodi, and Damascus, where a town with 43,000 people (Bristol, both parts) is a comparative metropolis that's only 20-25 miles away, and it's almost a full 2 hours to a city the size of Roanoke!

My understanding is that most of those who do choose to attend Emory & Henry develop a strong fondness for and loyalty to the college.

You are right on, I just didn't want to hurt feelings saying that, but not many kids want to attend school there.  Plust it is 6 1/2 hours from VA Beach!!!
