Good luck to the Marlins this weekend!

For you old-schoolers...there was a pretty good basketball team in 1974 who also played their regionals on their home floor(Raleigh /Reynolds Coliseum), won that and then travelled across North Carolina to play the Final Four in Greensboro and of course won it all there.

It would be sweet to see VWC follow suit and never leave the friendly confines of the Commonwealth en-route to National Championship!

As a famous man once said... "Don't give up...don't ever give up!"

A slightly lesser famous guy also once said..."Git 'er dun"... ;D

Less famous? I don't know if I would say Larry the Cable Guyy is less famous. I mean he does appeal to a lot of non-basketball fans!

Hey steely, I told you about my nephew and his team's 2004 NCHSAA State Championship.  All through the season the fans held up signs saying "Git 'er dun."  Then, at the victory celebration, everyone had signs that said "Got 'er dun!"  Too funny!  Good luck Marlins - listen to the Cable Guy!

What is everyone's thoughts about Lincoln vs. VWC?  I remember early on (in my regular season strong hold) in the picke 'ems I did some research on Lincoln and liked them enough to beat RMC.   I have to believe they are very athletic and like to run.  What are their chances, what are VWC's chances for those who have seen both teams play, what do you think???

Personally, I think it is going to be a two point game.  But that is just a guess.  The Batten Center is going to be exploding with energy, even more so than this weekend.  For once, that place was CRAZY!!!

The Marlins have to shut down Kyle Myrick. I think that Lincoln is thinking that they have to shut down Adair. This is going to be a classic match-up. The teams are both speedy and they each have a go-to guy. What the Marlins have going for them is home court advantage. I definitely think that helped against Farmingdale. The louder the better.

Matt Barnhart (kid)

I was looking through Lincoln's box scores and found some things of note.

  • All four of Lincoln's losses have come away from home, with their three "scares" (a three-point win and two two-point wins) also on away or neutral courts.
  • In the aforementioned seven games, Kyle Myrick shot only .418 from the floor (he shot .499 in the other 22 wins).
  • Lincoln's two starting big men - Darryl White and Thomas Hickson, both of whom are 6'7'' - got in foul trouble in the seven games mentioned above.  Each of them committed four or more fouls in four of the contests.

You would think that STH> would be a little more positive about the upcoming game. Yes, I think the Marlins can shut down Myrick.

Oh I am positive. I think VWC should win this game, but shutting down Myrick is quite a hefty task for any team to do.

Here's nformation about Kyle Myrick  from a press release posted at http://www.d3hoops.com/pressreleases.php?release=576

Myrick leads the nation in scoring with 33.7 points per game.

Myrick is also second in Division III assists (7.9) and fourth in steals (3.5).

In his five games in February, Myrick averaged 42.8 points, 10.2 assists, 5.0 steals, plus 6.0 rebounds!

It seems almost certain that Myrick -- a D3hoops Preseason 3rd team All-American -- will be named a 1st team All-American in a little over a week, win or lose at Virginia Beach.

Myrick's point total in Lincoln's four losses:

11/22 - Albright:  44 points
12/12 - Wilkes:  41 points (1OT)
12/18 - RMC:  25 points
1/7 - Lebanon Valley:  24 points

algernon

Myrick's point totals during Lincoln's current 11-game win streak:

27
29
34
45
37
36
62
30
49
44 - Christopher Newport
34 - Messiah

He's averaging 38.8 points a game during this streak.

Myrick plays about 38 minutes a game.  Apparently, he never wears out and he rarely or never gets into foul trouble.  Over 29 games, he's averaging only 2.2 fouls a game.

More stats on the Lincoln star:

Myrick averages 13 for 27 a game (48%), with 2 for 6 from behind the arc (32%).  I haven't checked it out, but I'm betting that his 27 shots a game makes him the DIII national leader in FGA.

He hits 77.6% from the FT line, averaging 5.9 FT on 7.6 FTA per game.

Who do you think Coach Macedo will have guarding Myrick?  Since I haven't seen VWC play this year, i am not sure about their guard defense.

Also, what was the fishtank like this past weekend?  Good crowd?  And I heard they are going to put seating on the end of the court for the Sweet 16 game...how many people will the tank hold with those seats set up?
