The Tigers should be very competitive this year, with as good a chance to upset the Marlins and win the ODAC championship as any other team.  They return four of their five starters (Kaase, Prehmus, Edwards, and Green), as well as five key reserves.  In addition, my understanding is that the Tigers have a couple of excellent post players coming in as freshmen.

FYI - Guilford's 2006-07 Roster is posted & there are 15 newcomers.  I can't find any information on some of the guys, but many were listed in the top NC HS rankings last year on scoring, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, etc.  Names I saw listed in one or more categories are Justin Strickland (E. Davidson), Sherrick Warren (Fayetteville E.E. Smith), Tyler Sanborn (Elkin), Kyle Bunn (Rosewood), Clay Henson (Morganton Freedom), Luke Johnson (Burnsville Mountain Heritage) & Antoine Blue (Fayetteville 71st).   Virginia recruits include Adam Gilbert (Parry McCluer HS in Buena Vista) & Brandon Johnson (Bassett).   Other players listed are Nick Bailey (Asheville?), Ryan Byrd, Matthew Cooney, Chad Currin, Tres Hendrix & Ryan Smith.  Names I didn't see (that still have eligibility) are Genaro Lawhorn (we knew he wasn't coming back) & Andy Sharpe (injured in 2005-06).

JWW - Pretty good predictions.  I definitely agree with your #1 and #10, but the middle is muddled for me.  lol  Maybe it's just a hunch, but I think the Quakers are going to break the Top 3 this season.  Also a gut feeling, but I think you have LC a spot or two too high and E&H too low.  I think I would switch their positions.   Here's my ten:

1. VWC
2. HSC
3. Guilford
4. RMC
5. Roanoke
6. E&H
7. Lynchburg
8. EMU
9. BC
10. W&L

This is based on VERY little information about the incoming classes, but I agree with the top of the order and flip around the bottom five:

1. VWC - I saw them beat Illinois Wesleyan and Wittenberg .........
2. HSC - Hopefully, the Tigers will upset the preseason #1.
3. RMC - Or 4th?
4. Guilford - Or 3rd?
5. Roanoke - Lose Jared Butler.
6. E&H - Teams have a hard time beating them in Emory.
7. W&L - They had no seniors on last year's roster.
8. EMU - Jason Sager's not coming back, is he?
9. BC - Could be higher.
10. Lynchburg - At least they're used to a losing season.

I like Algernon's picks. I'm an unrepentant W&L fan and they may be better than 7th. Not only were thay seniorless last year; Kushimo will return fully recovered from the broken foot( during thanksgiving week in '05) that hobbled him for half the season and shelved him for the other half. Expectations are the highest in Lexington since the previous coaching regime was in place.

Does anybody have any idea about Emory and Henry's 2006-07 basketball schedule?  Or for that matter W & L's?

I don't profess to understand the karma rating. But what about my last post dropped me from a -1 to a -2? Who's subjectivity rules that part of the site content? :-\
So, dear Big Brother,  what good works must I perform to be considered worthy of positive Karma?

I don't understand the karma thing either but I just boosted you one.

Thanks - you actually boosted me 2. Is this kind of like air miles that you can't ever use for anything?

HE can't boost you 2 (someone else must have also boosted you), but, yeah, you can't ever use them for anything!

Good morning gurus!

I certainly do not pretend to put myself into the class of the above "gurus" but be very careful picking Bridgewater 9th. Coach Leatherman loves you guys for it, but... only 1 time in the 16 years since the ODAC went to 9+ teams have the Eagles finished 9th (1998...the year before a certain former ODAC POY arrived on campus). In those 16 years the Eagles have 5th or better 10 times.

BC does lose a terrific player and an even better young man in Clay Michael. However, 64% of the points, 62% of the assists and 43% of the rebounds do return along with 68% of the starts. Not saying here in late August that Bridgewater will contend for an ODAC championship, but if I were a betting man  ;)and you guys all took 9th, I bet the house on a higher regular season finish!

Fox, Maupin, Strotman, Cathlin, Oblightey and Cecil form a nice nucleus. As we all know so much is dependent on who returns and what freshmen contribute early...but ...that being said... I'll still take "the higher"!

Hope you guys got your waders and small boats dusted off...

to continue what is probably the most inane thread I've ever harped in on (it just shows my desperation level to get hoop season statrted): How can you boost someone?

Steely - I'd like to see BC finish in the top 5 where they really belong. Still, they did lose Clay who was a presence.

Baselinejam - to boost is to applaud; to unboost is to smite!

baselinejam - I'm not sure, but I think you have to have 200 posts before you can applaud & smite.  In fact, these options (which will be on the left hand side of your screen) may not even be visible to you until you reach Post #200.  This was designed this way to prevent someone from signing on d3sports simply to be a "drive by smiter"  :)
