Nova - you just keep getting better and better. I'm still wondering what the hell Guru Coleman was doing with "bronze" in his tribute to the great and all powerful Fish from the beach.

The "Walnut and Bronze" is a poetic appellation for the National Championship Trophy.

Ah, now I see. Thanks. A little slow on the uptake.

Thanks.  Yes, "Walnut and Bronze" is referring to the DIII Championship trophy.  So, my question is, what rhymes with "walnut" or, in jbubyadubya's case, "euphoria"?  :)

No, I am not "a legend in my own mind," but I'll try over the next day or so.  Too busy right now.  Don't build me up too much, jdubyadubya, that inevitable fall back to earth will be pretty rough! lol  :)

There once were some "Thugs from the Beach"
For whom "Walnut and Bronze" was in reach.
When the buzzer sounds zero
Ace Ton Ton's their hero
And Fish fans thought life was a peach!

One fan's high fives were historic
His moon pies and RC's caloric
He bronzed his new sneakers
And walnutted his speakers
His new trophy dance was euphoric!

very nice, Nova, particularly the reference to the "Thugs from the Beach."

Thank you.  Now where have I heard that phrase before?  lol

Talk about cleaning up your image! Ever since the Marlins brought home the walnut and bronze(I can say that now cuz I know what it means), they've announced their quest to become a Phi Beta Kappa chapter school. Fish are going to be wearing blazers and bow ties on road trips!  ;D

Generally speaking they're brainy
Oft going in when it's rainy!
But give them a ball
And they'll take a fall
Tenth place is their normal attainee!

Ever notice that W&L can also stand for wins and losses?  Ah, if only Lee had been born first!

glad the Hoops Gennies could provde you with some amusement - alas they dominate in the other less entertaining sports.

All meant as good-natured fun.  Trust me, I have a tremendous amount of respect for W&L as a school and W&L's overall athletics program.  I spent about 5 minutes each writing these during a lunch hour when someone issued a challenge, so none of them were intended to be great poetry.  :)  Actually, I hope the Generals can be much more competitive this year.  It's good for W&L and it's good for the ODAC and no, I haven't forgotten the ambush the Generals put on the Quakers during their visit to Lexinton last December!  Peace

On the clock? You performed well under pressure  ;) The Peaceful Folks size may be a significant probelm for the ODAC this year.

Less than 2 weeks to practice ;D!

Guilford published their schedule last Friday.  The men open with an early exhibition against DI Elon (last year it was a regular season game) plus 24 that count.  There are the normal 18 ODAC contests as well as Robert Morris and Sewanee (University of the South) in a tournament at Roanoke, Greensboro at the Coliseum, Shenandoah at home, away at Methodist and away at Averett.  Looks like ten DIII games in Ragan-Brown.
