For all those interested, the score to the Hampton/Va. Wesleyan scrimmage would have been and 84-73 victory for Hampton had the score been combined. They reset the score at halftime. First half score was 51-45 and 2nd half score was 33-28, with Hampton winning both.

Roanoke scrimmaged Averett last night.  Under Jimmy Allen, Averett is no longer the doormat in the USASC/Dixie, and I'd expect them to be good competition for the four ODAC teams on the Cougar schedule (Hampden-Sydney, Guilford, Lynchburg, and Virginia Wesleyan).

Roanoke has 12 returning from last season, and I'd expect almost all of them to see significant playing time--at least early in the season.  Players who saw only limited action in mop-up situations last year have developed during the off-season and look ready to play in competitive situations.  This includes players like Bart Davis, Zach Milton, Jeff Leiter, and Dan Edsall, who should see significant PT this year.  Ben Lawler, Ty Signmon, Curtis Peery, Michael Diggs, and Josh LaPorte all looked like they had improved over last year and should enable Page to keep fresh legs to battle underneath.  Ben Shrader had a minor injury so he didn't see much action in the scrimmage, but I'd expect him to continue as a threat to shoot well beyond the arc.  Tee Jackson had surgery on his shoulder after last season and from his play last night, he seems to have recovered and ready to go 100% for his senior year.  AJ Dowell looked very smooth; he should be able play either point or shooting guard spots.

I'd expect Page to play lots of player combinations, depending on game situations.  He may not match Bob Johnson's substitution scheme, but it wouldn't surprise me if Roanoke was next in the ODAC in the number of players getting 10 or more minutes per game.  Whether or not Roanoke will be able to match the quality and quantity of some of the other outstanding teams in the ODAC is not self-evident from last night's action.  That's why we have to play the games.   But I am looking forward to the battles to come--on the court and here on the board.  :)

Good to be back into Basketball Season.  Looking forward to the season and all the mysteries of ODAC Basketball!  In regards to Macon, don't underestimate the ability of Rhoades.  His motivational and coaching abilities will shine this year with this team.

Guilford beat D1 school Elon (Southern Conference) this evening, at Elon  62 - 56.  There was a fine crowd at Elon on homecoming evening, and the game was close and very exciting.  The students were making plenty of noise.

Guilford's attack was balanced, with four players in double figures and others contributing.  Play was very agressive - they really took it to those scholarship players.  The freshmen were beautiful.   Everyone played defense.  The team didn't fade out in the second half.

You gotta love this team.

I hope Guilford struggles when they come across town to play greensboro.  A good pre-season win.

It's now been corrrected, but I only have one thing to say to Cleopatra, the Phoenix and any other "Queens of de Nile":  We kicked your "asp"!  :)

All kidding aside (well, almost all kidding aside), the ODAC is very "strong" this year, but I think the Quakers can finish higher than the unanimous 4th they were tabbed in the preaseason coaches poll.  Don't be surprised to see Guilford get some Top 25 votes this year.

With this talk of Guilford be so good.  I am a little worried about the GC-GC match-up at the end of the month.

Well, I'm not sure who Greensboro has recruited for this season, but it would appear as though Guilford has the better squad "on paper."  Rivalries, such as the Guilford-Greensboro intracity version, sometimes do allow for some unexpected finishes.  We'll see!  Go Quakers!

EMU scrimmaged Mary Wash. on thurs of last week.. not many people in the gym as the emu team showed up at 6pm when the game was suppose to start. they stretched for about 5mins and then played. they lost the first half by 15..the second half they looked more relaxed and stretched out as they went on to beat Mary Wash. in the second half. EMU looked to have some firepower from some of the new comers and also a solid player at the point. Junior Jared Lyons played pretty well for EMU at the point. Sager was Sager and Parkes played well too. They were missing some players from the line up due to injuries. 2 starters were missing, with them I think they beat MW easily....I guess we will see how the year goes.. EMU is off to play D I JMU tues night at JMU.......

Read it this morning!!  Holy Schnikeys!!  Ben Strong will be tough to defend this year unless they collapse on him.

Good to hear from ya, 3sdown.  I was hoping you'd show up!

Good morning, Jacketlawyer.  Guilford's 62-56 win over Elon was certainly a nice surprise when I first saw it!  Strong's backup this year is 6'11"/255 Tyler Sanborn.  Sanborn was a pretty decent HS player, albeit at a 1A school (Elkin, NC).   We'll also see how quickly he develops as a college post man.  I was curious to see how GC's #1 recruit, Justin Strickland, would do and he scored 12 points in his debut on the road against a DI program.  Great start any way you look at it!

Yeah, Hasanova, you're having a good year so far this year!!  Football team was good, and GC looks to be positively scary in hoops!! ;)

Hope you can stand it!! :D

Over time, I've accumulated quite a "negative" sports euphoria total (abated only occasionally by a golf championship lol), so bring it on!  This year's football success and anticipated basketball success should push me a little closer to zero.  :)  Trust me, I can handle it!  Don't forget - January - RMC vs GC hoops - Greensboro - be there!

Barring an unforeseen emergency, or a blizzard, I will be there!  If the pre-season standings were done accurately (and Jeloesel addressed the chances of that), the game should be both meaningful and good.
