that roundball juggernaut known as the Hampden-Sydney Tigers
(i don't care if W&L is playing the Washington Wizards, no Minks)

Need more posters like this 'un.  Likes his Tigers.  No Minks.

Just a question from an outsider, but why don't you all create a seperate ODAC Pick 'em page?  It makes it difficult to sort through pages of picks with a couple of basketball related hoops mingled in every now and then.  A seperate pick 'em page would do wonders for your ODAC board.  Just offering my opinion as an outside observer...

Friday
Bridgewater vs. Southern Virginia (at EMU)  Nothing personal, Steely, but I think it's too early in the season for the Eagles to put the new pieces together for a win.  Southern Virginia might not be able to win against Bridgewater later in the season, but this is not a season opener for Southern Virginia.
E&H vs. Mt Union (at Wooster)  Mt. Union plays football better than basketball.  E&H will cause a lot of problems for a lot of teams, even those which have seen "the Johnson system".
H-SC vs. Roberts Wesleyan (at Westminister)  I might thumb my nose at Syndey for the treatment at the hands of Brian Hamilton  :), but I'm not dumb enough to pick against them--in this game.
Lynchburg at Westminister
R-MC vs. Penn State-Berks (at Lycoming)  Coach Rhoades will have his team up for the opener.
W&L vs. Denison  This is a toss up between two team returning a lot of players.  The home court advantage should be enough to tip this in the General's direction.

Saturday
Guilford vs. Robert Morris (IL) (at Roanoke)  The Quakers won't seem like pacifists to Robert Morris.
Roanoke vs. U. of the South  Page needs a fast start this year to show that his troops are ready to battle the ODAC's best.  Sewanee is a fine educational institution, but not a basketball power this year.

Tuesday
EMU at Shenandoah  Another game that makes me uneasy.  I'm not convinced that EMU has the chemistry working yet.
VWC vs. Christopher Newport  If the Marlins blow the opener...

Wild Card Game
Wooster vs. Cabrini  Where is David Collinge when we need him?

In my opionion, it would dilute the participation on this board by creating a separate place for the Pick'em.   I think creating separate boards for each subject leads to less community.   The Pick'em is integral to the banter among the ODAC family.  It may make it harder for "outsiders" who just want to visit the ODAC board to pick up tidbits about the ODAC teams, but we are more about participation than information.

I'm surprised you didn't venture an opinion about the Wooster game vs. Cabrini.  I put it on a tee for the Wooster faithful.

I have the same opinion and couldn't have expressed it better.

Jimmy and Algernon...I'm with you guys on the "Pick'em" structure. I appreciate suggestions from anyone, anytime as to ways to improve our "thang" down here but  I agree our current structure lends itself to more schmack and afterall that's the reason we are here!

Guru's help me out here...I appreciate the zeal of the EMU's in wanting to pick every game but let's stick to the gameplan...and that is to pick Jimmy's games! If you want stray outside the lines, fine, but make the extras a separate pick. The abacus is still in scrimmage mode and must do more suicides before being ready to tackle overtime!

Jimmy...the Southern Virgina game will indeed be a struggle for the young Eagles. Without their scoring guard (Maupin) and a new forward they were counting on in preseason ( before blowing out a knee) finding a go to guy will be the test. Josh Fox must become THAT guy. At Radford he could float outside and shoot the three but in the Valley, at least half the time he's got to go sit on the block, defend, rebound and exude a toughness he wasn't required to show at Radford and hasn't shown at Bridgewater just yet. I look for Matt Drewer to become a force in the paint once he convinces Coach Leatherman that he can be the man for an entire season. Time will tell. And to give you a little more ammo, with Southern Virgina much like NNA you're not quite sure what you'll get until practice starts. From I've heard Southern Virginia will be good this season. Let's get started!

Just saw this article in the Harrisonburg Daily News...a little insight into the Eagles...

Mr. Loesel (or anyone else), if you attend the GC/RC alternating games with Robert Morris and Sewanee this weekend at Roanoke College, I'd be interested in any comments and insights you have after watching both ODAC teams in action.  Thanks!

I have penciled into my weekend schedule the two Roanoke and the two Guilford games.  I noticed some other sporting events are going to suffer: DIII women's volleyball championship tournament games, Michigan vs. Ohio State football, Virginia Tech vs. Wake football, to name a few.  I've always respected Guilford College, but I've taken an increased interest in it since we moved onto Guilford Avenue last year.  I get to spell it every time I give my address.  Please put a U before the I; only one L.

Regarding the games I select for the weekly Pick'em contest, I generally pick only one game per team early in the season.  I was aware that some teams were playing more than one during the opening week, but I tried to select the game I thought would be most competitive.   I know you wouldn't want me to pick more Roanoke games than (for example) Hampden-Sydney or Virginia Wesleyan games, right?   ;)

I do ask for correction of any games that I list incorrectly for the day or place.  Sometimes I get it wrong.  Usually its because the ODAC or D3 hoops master schedules have been filled out incorrectly, but I have been known to make a typing mistake.

Thank you!  I believe the Quakers are going to be a solid club this year with a good blend of veterans and talented freshmen.  Good luck also to the Maroons.  I've also always had an interest in Roanoke because it too is a great school and one of my brothers is a Lutheran minister (and has educated me about some Lutheran church/college history).  Coach Moir's family is originally from Mount Airy, NC, which is close to where I grew up, so that is some added interest.

Thanks also for keeping everyone straight on the correct Guilford spelling.  One other incorrect version I see from time to time is "Guildford."  Who says Guilford football has no "D"? - with this spelling we have two!  :)  By the way, Robert Morris College had "Roanoake" on its website schedule last week, but it has since been corrected - so it's not just Guilford!

One other quick spelling-related story - my youngest brother is an architect and traveled to Poland this year to tour an IKEA plant so he could replicate one to be built near Danville in Pittsylvania County.  While he was gone, his administrative assistant sent an email to all his contacts informing them he would be in "Pollen" for two weeks.   When he got back, two practical jokers had sent him some tissues and antihistamine tablets.  lol  He politely discussed the difference with his assistant when he returned and gave her an Atlas.  :)

I did see that as part of your pick 'ems for the week.  I'd say that everyone is pretty safe in picking Wooster in that one. ;)

Thanks for not jumping all over me as well.  I wasn't trying to be critical.  I can understand and thanks for the explaination.  I'll probably be paying a little more attention to this board this year seeing as how I'd like to keep tabs on how Va Wes is doing.  Wooster also has a bit of a history with H-SC and R-MC as well, so there's always that connection.  Good luck this season to all the ODAC teams and I'll look forward to chatting with you all throughout the season.

That national consolation game in 2003 between Wooster and Hampden-Sydney on Saturday afternoon was an exciting one.  Andy Jackson had the game of his career and the Tigers almost pulled out the win.  The Scots never let down and won by 4 points.
