It is a circus at times, isn't it?  lol  Sludge, are you and Mrs. Sludge going to Fayetteville on Saturday afternoon?  I'm about 95% sure I will.
The following is posted at the request of Mrs. Sludge:

"Mrs. Sludge" kindly requests that you refrain from the aforementioned appellation in referencing her, and that if you wish to thow her name into the mire of ODAC conversation in the future, please simply call her "The Muckraker".
P.S. She loved the fractured "Twas" poem.  What a gas.

Glad you'll be in Fayetteville.  I'll look for you.  Of course, Muckraker it is.  Quite apropos, especially on the 100th anniversary of Teddy Roosevelt's speech that spawned the term.  Tell her, however, that Boss Tweed and the Tammany Hall Machine have now inexplicably decided to not attend the game.  lol  Also, many thanks for your comments on the slightly irreverent and significantly warped "Twas the Night Before Christmas."  The first few lines came to me at the Shenandoah game and then it was quite a bit of fun to finish.  See you Saturday.

Here's how they got busted ... at the "normal" time, look at your score.  If someone "adjusts" your karma, it will change right in front of you.  Then, immediately click on d3sports and it will take you to the page where the most recent poster activity is revealed at the bottom of the page.  Because you just switched from one screen to another, your name will usually be first and the other person will be second.  Even if someone else gets into the 2nd spot due to nearly simultaneous activity, you can easily eliminate other names by seeing if it's someone from another board with whom you have never had any contact and whether they have the required 200 posts.  Guess what?  For four straight nights, as soon as I got "dinged", the same familiar person's name popped to the top of the list.  Coincidence, you say?  Well, let's assume there are 40 posters on line at the same time every night.  The odds are then (1/40) to the 4th power that this is not the guy (1/2,560,000).  Contrarily, there are 2,559,999 chances out of 2,560,000 that this probably is the guy.

OK, dude, here's the deal.  Stop it now and I'll let it go.  Do it again and I'll publicly confront you on this board, the USASAC board and your home board, which is also in the South region.

Wow Hasanova,

Now I'm confused ... on the one hand, posting basically "stop it or I'm telling" seems to be worthy of a smite.

On the other hand, maybe this deserves further consideration ...

Seems to me, you've got WAY too much time on your hands! Seriously ... have you really been sitting up late at night, staring at your PC, waiting for your karma # to change? IMHO, a fluctuating karma # maybe should not be quite that high on the list of issues you s/b concerned about ... especially, if you are that concerned about it. Sort of a Catch 22, huh?

Man, I thought I wasted too much time on these msg boards .... maybe you should find something more productive to use your investigative talents on? I hear OJ could use some help finding the real killer ...   :D  Easy now, don't get upset ... it's just a joke ...

I think my feelings with regard to karma are more in line with baselinejam's than with yours ...

From baselinejam:
"Recently I have dinged you and I don't believe I need to add to this dissertation to explain my peeves. I will tell you that I started a couple weeks after you started complaining. I will also tell you that I've given you applause on occasion as well.
Boards are for opinions – if you don't like me or mine, smite away."

But whatever ... IMHO, it's just not that big of a deal. But I do think baselinejam is on the right track ... complaining is probably the cause of a lot of that bad karma.

Now that I think about it, relatively speaking at least, you've made me feel better about the time I waste on here ... so that's worthy of some good karma.  ;)  Plus, that was a nice history lesson on Boss Tweed and the Muckrakers ... so that's two plus factors and one negative ... hey, that nets to an applause. So here you go ... enjoy ... and relax.    8)

oldlion, thanks also for your comments.  In the end, I didn't have to tell anyone anything.  Preemption lives.  You're right, this site can take too much time away from infinitely more worthy pursuits that also improve one's self-esteem.  I will openly tell you this issue ultimately angered me.  Perhaps it shouldn't have, but it did.  Peeved, someone said.  I respectfully disagree with you and baselinejam.  With that said, however, please consider these two conundrums: "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" and "which came first, the complaint or the smites?"  Next topic please.

It's time for hoops, so I have no more to say.  Peace and good luck to your team.

FISHTANKFAN

GOOD LUCK tonight Marlins..I hope your journey to Texas is a great success.  Show em what the ODAC can do!

Big game for the Quakers Saturday on the Monarchs' home floor!  GC is 7-0 and a good Methodist team is 4-2, with some quality wins.  This is the first game of a tough 4-game road trip for Guilford that also includes undefeated Averett on Jan. 2, always tough RMC on the 6th and then defending national champ VWC on the 7th.  Good luck guys!  One game at a time.  At the end of this stretch, we'll have a pretty good idea where we stand!  Narch, sludge and muckraker - looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Nova - I don't think Guilford will have any trouble with Methodist. I think the bumps in their road might be Averett and VWC. Guilford is impressive this year.

jww- I hope you're right about the Methodist game, but no team, especially one with a winning record, should be taken lightly ...  especially on their home floor.  Realistically, I know Averett and VWC are the two ranked teams and it's tempting to look ahead to a meeting of undefeated teams in Danville Tuesday night.  I've been around long enough to avoid that sort of thinking and I'm sure Coach Palombo is also keeping his players focused only on Saturday's game.

I've seen the Quakers play four times this year and multiple things lead me to believe this is going to be a special team:  1)  All five starters have been together for 3 years and their cohesiveness shows   2)  Free throw shooting has greatly improved (several years ago they were losing lots of close games with 50-55% from the line)  3) Solid 40 minutes at Center (Strong and freshman Sanborn are both 6'10" or over and their combined boxes are impressive)  4) It's apparent Guard Kimbrough has been passing to Strong since 8th grade - their timing is uncanny 5)  Snipes is also capable of scoring in bunches - Strong will not lead this team in scoring every game  6)  a deep bench - I'd say the first 10 are all really solid and the freshmen are talented  7) they're hungry and focused

I look forward to the match-ups with the Marlins.  It's doubtful I'll be at VWC on the 7th, but I will definitely be in Ragan-Brown on Jan. 28.  Hopefully, we'll get to meet at a game sometime.  If not in the regular season, then in Salem.  :)

Here is the link to the fourth and final article in my local newspaper about Division III athletics.  There is a hotlink to a companion article near the beginning of the article.

It is good to see DIII get this much press and too bad it is buried in a small town local paper.

Scottiedoug - thanks for telling us about the link. Very interesting. I enjoyed it.

I post in another region, but am coming east to see my alma mater, RMC, play Guilford and Emory & Henry the first weekend in January. You scared me for a second when you said the Guilford-RMC game is on the 5th. I checked the schedule again, just to be certain, and that game is on Saturday the 6th at 2 p.m. The RMC-E&H game is on Sunday the 7th at 2:00 p.m.

I considered it ...

Allow me to offer a possible answer to your conundrum in the form of a riddle ...

How could the possible answer to your conundrum be like good sex?

A much coveted karma point for the first correct response ...  :o

Sorry, y_jack_lok, my error in typing.  The GC at RMC game is, of course, as you correctly stated, the 6th and not the 5th.  Guilford's standard road trip in January is RMC and VWC back-to-back on a Saturday and Sunday.  E&H also travels that weekend and we swap opponents.  Thanks for the heads-up call and I apologize for the scare.  :)

Well, some will say all sex is good, but once you get over that hurdle I guess we're left looking for some semblance of an answer to the conundrums.   How about these:

1) "which came first, the chicken or the egg?"   does it really matter, because in both cases you get laid
2) "which came first, the complaint or the smites?"  does it really matter, because in both cases you get screwed

Just one man's opinion.
