Final Guilford 80, RMC 73.    Guilford scored the last 16 unanswered points after trailing 73-64 at the 5:08 mark.  Strong with 40 points/14 rebounds and Snipes with 18.  Quakers now 10-0, 4-0 and Macon is 7-5, 2-3.

I hope VWC isn't too winded after kicking EH's tail.  My only thoughts during the marathon that I watched today was that the Marlins may be a little sluggish going into play Guildford tomorrow.  Hopefully now that can realized what a big game this will be.

Was Strong that dominate (as he can be) against RMC or did RMC have the mentality "let Strong get his" don't let anyone else beat us.  I mean 40 points is pretty dominate...again for Ben Strong.

Greetings from Virginia Beach.  I'm rooting for maximum sluggish fish tomorrow, but I'm not counting on it.  I'd be surprised by it!

Strong was pretty dominant.  Guilford seemed content to feed him until they shut him down, which didn't quite happen.  Plenty of assists, with Kimbrough leading the dish.  Good all around team ball  though.  If all Guilford had was Strong, though, they'd lose every game.  Its not a one-man sport!

RMC had a nice lead, something like 9 points with about 2:30 to go (might not be accurate), but it seemed like Guilford came out of a timeout and found some defensive clamps to put on.  They bothered the excellent RMC 3 point shooting enough to bring the game home.

Hampden-Sydney got a comeback victory over Bridgewater College, 91-88 in overtime.  With the win, Hampden-Sydney improves to 7-4 overall (2-2 ODAC), while the Eagles drop to 4-5 overall (1-2 ODAC).  The contest marked the second-consecutive game in which the Tigers needed overtime to earn a victory.

Edwards had 18 points, Green had 17 points and 6 assists, and Prehmus had 14.  Freshman Turner King returned to action for Hampden-Sydney as he came off the bench to score 14 points.  Freshman Dominic Trawick led the Eagles with 18 points.

Roanoke beat Washington and Lee, 68-64, in Salem.  This is a good turn of events for the Maroons, although it dropped me to 4-1 in Pickems for the day.

Lynchburg picked up an 87-76 victory over the Royals in Lynchburg.

The Quakers quaked the Yellow Jackets in Ashland, winning 80-73 by scoring the last 16 points of the game.  RMC had led, 73-64, with 5:08 to play but scored nothing after that .... Hawley fouled Guilford twice within a minute and the Quakers made their shots and free throws to close it to 73-69.  During the last 4 minutes, the Yellow Jackets shot only from behind the arc  .... and hit none of their 6 shots from 3-point land, while Guilford scored on every possession and every free throw to get another 11 points.

The Marlins slaughtered E&H in Virginia Beach, 128-84.

FYI  It's worth noting that Ben Strong's 40/14 effort versus Randolph-Macon yesterday put him over 1000 points (1003) and 400 rebounds (402) in his 64-game Guilford career.  After averaging 9.2 and 18.9 ppg as as freshman and sophomore, respectively, Ben is now averaging 24.6 ppg in 2006-07.  He becomes the 26th male basketball player in Guilford history to go over 1000 points, but a couple of guys are well over 2000 (school record is 2570).  The top spots are probably unattainable, but if Ben keeps playing as well as he has lately, he's poised to leapfrog a lot of players on the list.

Coach Rhodes said that RMC expected to win at home against Guilford, and I can see why.  They looked like a good team, certainly well coached, that has a lot of wins in their future.  Defensively, they covered Guilford well, giving little room for the guards to get untracked in a big way.

Trivia fact:  there really is a big fishtank at the VWC Fishtank.

A known challenging place to play, mainly because of the opposition players!

Ferrum has a good chance to pick up Division III's second win over Division I today.

They play Winston-Salem State, who has the worst Division I record at 1-18.  Iona is the only winless team at 0-13.

Yep, the Rams have definitely struggled in their first year after moving up from the DII CIAA.

Nice win for Roanoke - the 39 -17 discrepancy at FT attempts was outrageous!

Yeah, I know sour grapes :P

Marlins in total control, with a 63-34 lead in the second half.  8:30 to go.

Final, VWC 75, Guilford 55.  Congratulations to what is clearly a fine VWC team, but a very disappointing game for the the Quakers.  Hopefully, Guilford can bounce back.  Good luck to both teams the rest of the season.

E&H 113 RMC 105

It really was not this close.  Emory dominated the game throughout but Macon made a big run under a minute to play to make it more respectable.  Emory gets 1 out of 2 on a very tough road trip.  The Wasp faithful cant be too upset about that.

Tigers beat EMU by a large margin, giving every Tiger a chance to get into the game.  Final:  78-55.  Kittrell, Medlin, and King score in double figures for the Tigers -- all 1st year players!  Prehmus had 15 points.  Murray injured in the first half .... not sure how long he'll be out after this game ... hopefully, he'll be ready in time for the next game, at RMC next Saturday.
