4 in a row for Lynchburg, as they beat the Eagles 66-60.

Although the VWC/Guilford score was a 20 point difference, it really wasn't even that close as VWC led by as many as 31 points in the second half and their bench players saw a lot of playing time.

Im rooting for the ODAC to get a couple teams to be ranked in the top 25 but with their performances this year against VWC, it is going to be tough.  The Marlins are outscoring ODAC teams 504-340 through 6 games.  The only team to score more than 60 points was E & H and we all know why.

But that is an average score of 84 to 57.  The Marlins are beating ODAC foes by an average of almost 30 points. OUCH!!!

Not I'm not dumb enough to ignore the fact that they have to play LC, RMC, and EMU twice and still have to visit E & H and Guilford (the trip from hell) who both are so much better at home.  But these stats are pretty tough to ignore.

PS:  Stephen "the rookie" Fields with 14 more points today....a little early to say a lot but a possible FOY in our midst

E&H 113 RMC 105

It really was not this close.  Emory dominated the game throughout but Macon made a big run under a minute to play to make it more respectable.  Emory gets 1 out of 2 on a very tough road trip.  The Wasp faithful cant be too upset about that.

I see that Emory and Henry was leading the Yellow Jackets by 29 points with under 12 minutes to play.

There's also Bridgewater's Trawick, Lynchburg's Echols, and HSC's Turner King.

I see the ODAC finishing as follows:
VWC
Guilford                    Thoughts from other posters.
RMC
HSC
Bridgewater
EMC
W&L
E&H
Lynchburg
Roanoke

I think you've got Emory & Henry and Lynchburg too low, and that you've got Randolph-Macon and EMU too high.  These are the current standings:

                                                                       "Games Back"
VWC               6-0                                                  --
Guilford                 4-1                                           1.5
HSC, Emory & Henry, Lynchburg     3-2                      2.5
RMC              2-4                                                    4
Bridgewater, W&L       1-3                                         4
EMU, Roanoke            1-4                                      4.5

** Lynchburg, RMC, and EMU have not yet played Virginia Wesleyan.
** Emory & Henry, W&L, Bridgewater, and EMU have not yet played Guilford.

I was at the game, I agree that it wasn't that close.

The second point doesn't ring true to me, though.  Losing to the best team in the land in their tank shouldn't disqualify.

Macedo has a technique where he adjusts the rims to a smaller size on the oponent's end of the floor.  At halftime, they switch it to the other end.  It works be remote control.  Either that, or they play really tough defense.

he did that same thing at the riddle center last week...that shouldn't be legal :)

seriously, the monarchs did miss an unusually high number of "good looks" against vwc...shots that were falling against guilford - makes me wonder if there isn't a little "pucker factor" when teams are playing against the defending national champions?

And Stephen Fields is better than all of those you just named. Didn't I say earlier that Stephen Fields was gonna be earlier and everyone was like those guys are better??? Stephen, in my opinion, has outplayed all of these players in head to head competition, besides Echols, who he faces sat.

Sludge, I almost fell out of my chair laughing reading your post.

Whew, that was a tough weekend for the Yellow Jackets.   I think my eyes are still red and puffy. :-X

On Guilford:  Ben Strong is the real deal, the secret is out. ;)  I snuck into Ashland and took in the first half.  I saw pretty much everything I needed to see in that amount of time.  Other commitments kept me from staying for the rest of the game, but I think it was a good basketball game regardless of the outcome.  Besides, the Quakes seem to like Crenshaw. :P

On E&H:  Didn't see it, but from the accounts I've read, not the best of showings for Randolph-Macon.  RT-D indicates the E&H bench is pretty awesome.

Jacketlawyer - what sort of defense was RMC playing on Strong?  Were they playing him one-on-one or trying to double him up.   He had 23 at the half and said in a post-game interview that he was "feeling it" even when he shot from 15-18 feet.

I'm looking forward to seeing E&H again this Saturday, but they scare me.   Last year's first game between the Wasps and the Quakers was 147-136 with Guilford attempting zero 3-pointers.  The 2nd game, which I saw, was 109-106 with GC attempting maybe two three-pointers.  I also saw the 3rd game in the opening round of the ODAC tournament with the Quakers winning 101-97 (I think that was the score).  Again, minimal three-point atttempts by the Quakers.  I wonder what strategy Palombo will try this year, but I expect to see Strong get bunches of points.  He had 30 in the regular season 109-106 win last year and over 20 in the other two.

Hasa--Randolph-Macon tried everything against Strong--EVERYTHING--and none of it worked.  I think the RT-D would agree with me on this one.  Besides, any time one player comes into your house and hangs 40 on your team--this tends to be proof alone that the defense was ineffective.  Or that the player is amazing.

Can't speak to E&H.  Didn't see the game; but you look past them at your own risk.  Guilford is going to be tough for anyone to beat this year, though, regardless of what VWC did to 'em in Norfolk.

What's everyone's guess for total points in the E&H at Guilford game on Saturday?

As a guide, last year's 1st game was 147-136, the 2nd 109-106 & the 3rd 101-97, so the average was 119-113.

Attended the RMC vs. E&H game yesterday. I left with a much higher level of respect  for the "system". Those guys can play and are fun to watch. The officials didn't have a chance to call a good game because they can't keep up with the ball.

RMC not the ball club I thought they would be. A big drop off from last year. Don't know if they have injuries but from what I saw yesterday, RMC is really down as compared to RMC teams of recent years.

Having said that, if RMC made their foul shots yesterday they would have won the game. It truly was a fun game to watch. I enjoyed the improvements made to Crenshaw. Coach Rhoads will right the ship, I'm sure. I just hope he waits until Sunday to do it !!!!
