I understand the R-MC H-SC game is a sellout! Who says "nobody cares."
I will never stop caring about this game.  Not ever.
Bravo!

Yes the Marlins may run the table and win the ODAC tournament ,but from what I have seen and read about Coach Macedo and his staff, I seriously doubt that they are looking that far ahead.  They have always been known to take one game at a time and keep the team focused on that game.  The Marlins can be beaten, as we all know, and it would be very premature at this point to suggest that they are unstoppable.  I would rather enjoy each win and look forward to the next game, hoping that they will be successful.  Division lll has many many good teams including the teams in the ODAC .   Over-confidence is dangerous. Too much can lead to disaster, and not enough can have the same result.  Finding a balance between the two is the key.    No game will be handed to them, that is certain.  They will have to work just as hard to defeat the teams in the ODAC as they will any teams in the playoffs.

I see my comments on my last post served its purpose and that was to get people fired up to start posting again.

Now that RMC has defeated HSC for the 7th time in a row, I think it is time for the Tigers to regroup and play the game of their lives when the Jackets visit in Feb. Enough is enough !!!!

Good luck to all this week. May your teams win !!!!

I don't think you will ever see the Marlins suffer from the "I'm better than you" syndrome. That just isn't their style. Remember, the Marlins are the ODAC's blue collar team and they will take whatever is given them through hard work only. Read the release on Saturday's game and note where Coach Macedo states that they are getting a little better each time out but they aren't there yet. They have high standards and a heavy work ethic.  With Coach Macedo and his able staff, it's one game at a time. That's just how they do it.

TFA, thanks for the comments, actually.  As I said before, I never forget the rivalry.  But it's lost some of its luster in recent years due to H-S's success on the gridiron, I think.  At least from my point of view.

Jacketlawyer:

You are exactly right, the rivalry is suffering due to RMC's problems on the gridiron coupled with HSC's problems on the hardwood. HSC dominates f'ball and RMC dominates b'ball and the rivarly suffers as a result. I can hardly remember the last time we beat you guys in b'ball and when the f'ball game was a game worth watching. Seven loses in a row is a little hard to take and I believe it is time for Coach Smith and the boys to step it up a notch when the two teams meet in Feb. Enough is enough and I know you feelm the same regarding f'ball.

Couldn't have put it any better.  I've had the sackcloth and ashes along with the usual wailing, weeping, and gnashing of teeth regarding our football program on the other board.  6 straight years is far too long, though I respect the heck out of Favret.  Great coach.

But back to hoops, somehow I don't think Hampden-Sydney is going to go 6 straight years without besting us in basketball.  Call me crazy, but this is true! ;D  I've watched us lose at H-S plenty of times.

Hey tfa - the Quakers are also tired of losing all these close games in football to the Tigers!  Show a "friend" some love, won't you?  lol  All kidding aside, I wish Guilford had a rivalry even remotely close to RMC and HSC!  You and jacketlawyer should make the trips next fall when the Tgers and the Jackets both visit Greensboro.

I do understand. The last two years the HSC vs. Guilford games have been very close & exciting. As long as Coach Favret is around the Tigers will be competitive in f'ball. They are making many changes in the off season, including building a $5mil stadium, so the future is bright.

I will not be able to make it to Greensboro in September as I still coach little league f'ball. My middle son has one year left at that level;  than I can start attending most every HSC game. I do look forward to returning to Guilford College; have not been there since the Fall of 1976!!!!!

I'll be in Greensboro (maybe) on business the Feb. 14th & 15th. Quakers playing at home either nite ??

tigerfanalso - It's not that I mind the high-scoring games with the Tigers the past few years, just that Guilford's lost all of them!  lol  Fortunately, we have Vogelbach for two more seasons, so I think we can expect more of the same.  :)  Congratulations on the new stadium.  I've been to a game at HSC and a new facility will really enhance an already great atmosphere just as it has at Guilford.

I completely understand your commitment to your son's football - been there, done that.  lol  My oldest is out of college and working as a Mechanical Engineer and the youngest is a college junior, so I'm done with the Little League phase.  :)

Hope you can make it to Guilford another time.  A lot of things have changed there in 30 years, but in other ways a traditional campus such as Guilford always has areas that appear timeless.  Speaking of basketball, the Generals and Quakers tip it off in Greensboro on Feb. 14 at 7 pm.  Mark it down.  I'm sure I'll be there and especially so if you can attend.  Peace

All this football talk in the middle of the hoop season is depressing.

Tigerfanalso - how's Kaase doing? That young man is the real deal. I've enjoyed watching & reading about him.

baselinejam - at least we mentioned W&L/Guilford hoops in Greensboro on Valentine's Day!  :)

Kasse is gone for the year. Tore his ACL. Has already had surgery. Saw him across the way this past weekend at the RMC game, sitting in a wheel chair watching the game. Tough for him and for the Tigers. Kasse is the real deal plus was the team leader and quite a young man. He'll be missed for sure.

Valentine's Day is just a coincidence ... lol ... but the Gennies shocked the Quakers in Lexington before Christmas last season.  Hopefully, from my point of view, the Quakers give their best effort every time they step on the court.  As a native Virginian, I think W&L is a great school and I got all that Revolutionary and Civil War history drilled into me just like everyone else, but I have to go with my Quakers on hoops this year.  Peace
