Manhattanville 73, W&L 68. Femi Kusimo has a monster game finishing with 16 points  on 8-14 shooting, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and 2 steals in 37 minutes!

We can all live in the past and be happy for what we've done. But the truth is you cant get pumped up by saying man i won that game in 1972. but yes championships are to be kept sacred.. and i wouldnt say a dominating force in the valley is defined by 2 more championships than emu. thats not dominating to me. also what do you mean no names from emu, carey keyes odac player of the year played at emu. jason sager plays at emu now. he will write some records, lenard dowe he played at emu, he was two time odac player of the year i believe? i may be wrong, but i think he was all odac 4 years. they have names, your just bias to BC as i probably am to EMU... But hopefully we will see the clear beast in the valley this year is emu.

Well, this is nice, but it's also influenced by many things such as whether a school is coed, how long they've been a member of the ODAC and how many sports they offer.

Just making an "educated" guess, but I bet there is no statistically significant difference between 32 & 34 titles.  Signed, an Undergraduate Math Major and former Graduate Assistant in Statistics

I just looked at the box score of the Lynchburg vs.  Oneota State game.

http://www.oneonta.edu/academics/athletics/MBASK/0506/mb010506.htm

Talk about ice-cold shooting.  The "best" shooter for the Hornets was Pete Manos, who hit a modest 35% (6-17).  The rest of the team was a miserable 16% (7-42).  The starting trio of Fairchild, Sheaffer and Prior was a combined 0-10.  With nothing inside, the shooting from the the team needed to shoot well from beyond the arc to compensate.  The outside shooters jacked it up 21 times but hit only 3.  The only bright spot was free throws, where Lynchburg was 25-30.  This couldn't be the start that coach Swickwrath was looking for from his group of seniors.

Virginia Wesleyan squandered an 18 point lead in the second half.  Coach Macedo can't be happy about that.   However, Warren Thompson is entitled to crow about his Trinity connection.

the offensive performance was beyond horrible in that game! not indicativge of the normal performance because Andy rarely ever turns the ball over 7 times and Sweeney is a 40% shooter. It's only the first game. Hopefully they'll get over these offensive woes and produce today, but luckily it looks like some other teams also had some offensive troubls as well. A rough start that we are more than capable of overcoming, so I'm not worrying about it much

Don't have a lot of details but the offensive virus apparently hit Bridgewater as well. From the BC website...

Dickisnon College defeated Bridgewater College 63-50 in the first round of the Pizza Hut Tip-Off tournament Friday night at Dickinson.
Josh Maupin led the Eagles in scoring with 12 points and Josh Fox finished with nine points and seven rebounds.

Sounds like W&L played a good first game, and just couldn't close it out.

I'll be in Lexington today to check out the Gennies against Southwestern.  Look for an update later.

Bridgewater shot well, just didnt shoot much. Having 22 Turnovers probably didnt help that much though. Clay Michael only attempted 5 shots, surely they were expecting more than just 5 attempts out of him.

Ladyeagle mentioned sports, not football specifically. If those numbers and those accomplishments don't represent a "tradition of excellence" to you, then so be it.

eagleslam ...

Thanks for the information about the Eagles' accomplishments in women's basketball, volleyball, and baseball. There is quite an impressive tradition of excellence in those 3 sports! And certainly Bill Leatherman's record is outstanding (winning nearly 60% of all of his games over nearly 20 years).

Perhaps Ladyeagle could have been more specific about which Eagles' sports involve a tradition of excellence, rather than then making a broad characterization about Bridgewater sports. I wonder what is the Eagles' won-lost record is in all of its sports over the past 20 years.

For what it's worth, on the ODAC pages, I find that the leaders in men's sports (by # of championships) are:
1) Lynchburg (80)
2) Washington & Lee (69)
3) Roanoke (39)
4) Bridgewater (26)
5) Hampden-Sydney (24)

The leaders in women's sports (by # of championships) are:
1) Washington & Lee (56)
2) Lynchburg (41)
3) Roanoke (38)
4) Eastern Mennonite (27)
5) Hollins (20)

Overall, Bridgewater has won 34 ODAC championships and EMU has won 32 ODAC championships.

hasanova,

You will see that we have taken care of the co-ed vs single sex argument.  As you point out it is kind of impossible for a team to win an ODAC title before it joined the ODAC.

Thanks for for noting that the coed issue had already been addressed.   Some of the schools, such as my alma mater Guilford, had numerous conference championships in other conferences before they joined the ODAC - 1991 in Guilford's case.  Guilford, in fact, has two national championships in men's golf since they joined the ODAC, but had three - in men's basketball, women's tennis and men's golf -  before they were in the ODAC.  Just something to add to the analysis.

Looks like Guilford fell on the road this afternoon in Daytona Beach, FL to NAIA DII #6 Embry-Riddle 90-72.  The Quakers led 37-31 at the half but got smoked 59-35 in the 2nd.  Guilford comes back to Greensboro Tuesday night for their annual men's and women's double-header with Greensboro College at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Lynchburg apparently cures its offensive woes but the defense cant hold out and they lose 79-75 to Staten Island.

Hampden-Sydney defeats Ithaca, 82-59, shooting 64% from the field (73% in the second half).  Troy Kaase had 26 points, similar to the number of points he scored in the exhibition against Longwood.  Tigers win their first game of the season for the 13th year in a row!
