Well said, Allsky7.  But I think Guilford dumping football is as unlikely as it is ridiculous. ;)

Yeah Jacket, I know. Just got a little fired up there. Been fired up all AM since I read the article on the WSET web site about the proposed gas tax increase.  >:(  The fire from that post carried over to this one.  ;D  ;D

Yeah Allsky, I read about the tax, too.  Enjoy your posts over there as well, though I don't post on WSET myself.

Baseline, never been a huge Doog fan, but your comments on the "ready, aim, fire" crowd are well taken.  Hopefully the Quakes won't have the same kind of situation.  Here's to hoping the Duke lessons were learned. :(

Hoping, that is. . . . . . :P

Well, Guilford has a well deserved reputation as a school that attracts a large percentage of students who "march to a different drummer" and some of those "marchers" view organized sports as an unnecessary appendage to education.  The broader part of the campus, however, accepts sports as fun, wholesome and part of the overall "college experience."  I, for one, think organized sports build your body and your character as much as the classroom builds your mind.  All have great value when fostered in the correct environment.  As an alumnus, I'm actually proud of Guilford's distinction as a "diverse" community, but it does make it harder to have homogeneous and uniltateral decisions.  When you also have a campus culture that has its roots in consensus building, finding a solution will happen, but not always in the instantaneous manner to which modern society has become accustomed.  Guilford's campus has a small segment that will go "ready, fire, aim," but I think in the end sensibility and fair play will prevail.

Yeah hasa...I spose it did add literally and figuratively. Speaking of adding things.... maybe it's time for some of us taxpayers to throw a little tea in the James and the Potomac. Of course...I guess you would throw yours in the Neuse instead of the James.  ;D ;D

Well, I used to live in New Bern, so I know a lot about the confluence of the Neuse and Trent Rivers.  lol  I remember reading a travel magazine once where the feature story was about New Bern and the "Noose" River - talk about not doing your homework!  lol  Since I now live in Greensboro, I guess I'll have to drive a little bit north and throw it in the Dan River or a little bit east and chuck it in the Haw.  Gee, what a name for a river!  lol  Hopefully, all you fellow farm boys will know right away that I'm horsing around with what's left of some thinly-veiled equine humor.  There's no telling what direction it'll go from here.  :)

GC and W&L tip-off at 7!  I'll listen on the internet.  If anyone goes in person, I'd appreciate a report later.  It should be a good game.  Go Quakers!

Guilford 62 W&L 61 Final in Lexington

Quakers hang on after blowing an 18 point halftime lead.  W&L was actually up by 3 at 60-57.  Eric Belkoski hit a 3 to put GC up 62-61 with 12.2 seconds to go and then Greg Bienemann missed both FTs with 0.3 seconds to go.  The Generals were deadly on 3-pointers in the 2nd half, but were only 4 of 15 from the FT line.  Whew!

Strong with 23 points/12 rebounds and Belkoski with a career-high 18 points for GC.  Three players in double figures for W&L as Jones got 14, Z. White had 11 and A. White had 10.

I was only listening. I would compare it to watching a car accident in slow motion or having root canal without Novocaine. This was a painful loss. After a horrendous 1st half and the worst FT display on record Belkoski killed us.

We'll shake it off & step for R-M this Saturday. I think we'll be very focused.

baselinejam - I was listening as well.  I understand your disappointment.  Guilford truly dodged a bullet.  I think your comparison to a slow motion car accident was spot on.  Just like you, all I could do was listen and wait to pick up the pieces.  I've never understood how a team can go 7 of 14 from three-point range and then shoot only 4 of 15 on FTs.  When Bienemann was fouled with 0.3 seconds, I thought we were doomed.  McHugh, I think, also missed two FTs about 30 seconds earlier.  How often would that happen, especially for the home team?  You're right about Belkoski, he played great.  Not sure what to say about Snipes, however, as he's had three off games in a row.  Hopefully, he can regain his shooting touch for the last six regular season games.  The Quakers badly need him to be an effective team.  Good luck to the Generals.

Oh my! At one point, VWC was leading BC 67-24 with 10+ mins to go in the game. Box score says Marlins shot 55%+. 11 Marlins scored and all 17 played; 13 Eagles scored and all 15 played. That Guilford/W&L game must have been exciting. Hope everyone has a great time this weekend. Remember to have fun on the hardwood.
