Again, congrats to GC, VWC, & H-SC for making the ODAC shine. It IS a shame that at least one of them will be going home tonight.  I think it is also a shame that VWC and H-S have to meet so early in the tourn. They just played last Sat. for Pete's sake!! I don't envy the task that the NCAA has but it would be nice if teams could be put in "pods" where they had an opportunity to compete against teams they don't normally see. (eg: Guilford pod and H-S vs Hood) I made this suggestion back during football season and see no reason it couldn't become a reality. While I am certainly no communist, why can't there be some form of sharing of the wealth in the NCAA so that brackets could be better balanced. I'm sure the D1 power brokers would scream bloody murder but they need to get over it. The amount of money gererated by D1 football and basketball is enormous. I suspect that the amount it would take to cover playoff travel, etc. for all D2 or D3 sports (while substantial) is still "chump change" in relation to what is generated. I suspect that the D3 teams involved could chip in towards this end as well. I don't know, perhaps I am delusional from breathing the fresh air up here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia but it seems to me that there is a solution here if someone put their mind to it.  If the NCAA has the power to (IMO) overstep their bounds on the mascot issue, then they certainly have the power to make this happen.

One additional comment. I'm not talking about getting totally crazy here folks. Just a little common sense approach that would allow the committees that put these playoffs together, the flexibility to fly a team if need be in order to improve the quality of the tourn.
GO TIGERS....GO QUAKERS...GO SCOTS!!! Sorry Marlins, you got bumped off the list this time.  ;D Darn NCAA!!!  ;D

You people on the east coast don't understand that it is not common sense that is limiting the flights.  It is the travel budget.

If they used the new travel software, then Maryville was a plane flight to MissColl as were UMHB and Oxy.

It is the same travel budget that probably flies Miss Coll to Virginia (pending a Miss Coll victory over Murvul, when the "head-to-head versus common opponents" criterion would give MissColl's UMHB victory to VWC's loss vs UMHB, the seeding preference and 3 more teams would be flown to Clinton.  Mississippi College goes 25-1 for the best record in the South Region and only plays 2 games at home?  I don;t really think that your president wants to see his NCAA dues doulb ed or tripled to pay for the travel burdens in the western half of the country.  You ODAC friends are already counting your travel blessings, aren't you!  The Golden Dome can be a rollicking place when the Choctaw fans fill it.

Ralph.....with all due respect, I'm not talking about travel software and current travel budgets. My father was a D3 coach, I played D3, I am a former coach.....I have eaten many ham sandwiches and cheetos on the side of the road going to games. Believe me, I understand travel budgets. If you see my first post, what I'm talking about is a reevaluation of the current system with perhaps some reasonable form of wealth sharing from the ridiculous amounts of money that D1 football and basketball generate. There is already a wealth sharing system within conferences from money teams get at bowl games. Perhaps some kind of expansion of that. I am also not talking about deluxe accommodations. Simply some kind of practical, common sense way of doing what is best for college athletics as a whole. I don't know, perhaps I am way out in left field on this but it just seems that it is something worth looking at.  8)

Guilford's men's basketball home page has links to both the Guilford and Johns Hopkins broadcasts of tonight's 7 pm game.  Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 for GC.  Go Quakers!  Go ODAC!

Right on Hasa...Thanks for bringing me back to the task at hand. Kinda got sidetracked on all the travel stuff. More important issues to deal with for now. GO TIGERS...GO SCOTS...GO QUAKERS.... GO ODAC...(Except for the Marlins tonight!!)  ;D ;D

Thank you , allsky!  I did misunderstand the full context of your original remark.  :-\

Has anyone seen the full D3 budget and the breakdown of the amount from dues and the "share-the-wealth amount from D1 contracts?

I sure miss the Golden Dome...my wife and I were talking about it last night as we watched the Choctaws shine the floor with the Occidental Tigers.  Still, last nights crowd was nothing up next to the rowdiness of the early days of the McMurray/MC rivalry.  Sure, they had the numbers, we we had the NOISE!

Hey, allsky!  Buddy, you write about whatever you want!  I also wish travel costs and distances were not part of the equation.  Make it all about the hoops!  Yes, I admit it, I'm anxious about tonight's games!  What a great time of year for HS and college basketball fans everywhere!  Go Quakers!  Go ODAC!

sludge

The gym at Johns Hopkins was packed, loud, and rocking.  its a small gym.  Guilford was excellently represented, with local fans, fans who hade the trip from Greensboro such as a smiling Carter, Clans Neville and or every description, and the entire Guilford Women's Lacrosse team, which is playing at Goucher today.  Fans held signs, cheered and yelled.

The team looked really sharp in warmups, and I knew Manhattanville could be in trouble at that point.  Manhattanville had swagger and talked a wee bit before the game, but additional motivation wasn't really needed.

Hey, sludge.  Thanks for the update.  I saw an attendance figure today - I can't remember exactly, but I think it was 1375.  Villa Julie and Manhattanville fans won't me there today, but I bet it'll be packed again tonight.  When you say Carter, I assume you're talking about Max.  I'm glad he was there.  I'm sure the Neville clan will also be there in force again tonight.  :)  Interesting about the women's Lacrosse team - I bet they were a lot of vocal support!  Yeah, I think the Quakers got all the motivation they needed last Thursday against BC.  As seniors, Snipes and Burge especially want to go out with a bang!  I had to listen to the Manhattanville webcast last night since GC's announcer got there really late due to traffic.  All in all, he did a nice job, but it was disconcerting to hear him pronounce Burge with two syllables instead of one (it rhymes, of course, with verge and surge) and for some inexplicable reason he referred to Ray Edmond as Ray Raymond all night!  lol  In addition, about half the time he said Tyler Sanford instead of Tyler Sanborn.  I guess Burge was understandable since he may have never seen that surname before, but it was rather funny.  Anyway, have a great time tonight and I'll be listening!  Let's root Guilford to the Sweet 16!  Go Quakers!  Go ODAC!

Hey Allsky7:  Nice to see good sense and a preference for equity coming from a Murvul Scot.  You been reading the school's mission statement?  It will be fun if the Smart People are wrong to assume it will be the Mississippi MC moving on.

ODAC sends 3 out of 3 into the 2nd round.

NESCAC sends 1 out of 3 into the 2nd round.

UAA sends 2 out of 4 into the 2nd round.

NOT BAD FOR THE ODAC!!

algernon

My bet is that the sectional will be played at Catholic or Hopkins or Virginia Wesleyan, if one of these teams makes the Sweet Sixteen.  If all 3 fail to make the Sweet Sixteen, then I think that Guilford has a reasonable chance of hosting it, if they win tonight.

Of course, you just want to win and advance, but it seems inherently unfair that some teams could get four straight games on their home court.  What an advantage!  Just curious, but how does the NCAA justify that sort of special treatment?

Guilford leads Johns Hopkins 44-31 at the half - longer report in ODAC Updates.
