Bummer, I was watching the stats of the EMU game while listening to the LC game.  Rather unbelievably, both lost on shots at the buzzer within 60 seconds of each other.

Roanoke defeats (barely) Ferrum, 72-68.  Tee Jackson had a great game with 23 points.  Roanoke had a comfortable 11 point lead at half time, shooting 67%.  In the second half, they struggled from the floor and from the line.  The Maroons turned it over 22 times in the game.  Credit the Panthers--they didn't quit.

I wasn't at the game, but EMU loses to Shenandoah by 2.  From looking at the stat sheet it looks like Shenandoah hit a shot at the buzzer.  Sounds like a tough game for EMU to lose.

Sager and Whiting finished with 22 each.  Parkes had a disappointing night with only 8 shots for 5 pts.

Any more info. on this game?

Just got home from the Greensboro/Guilford doubleheader at the Greensboro Coliseum.  The Pride women came back from an 11-point halftime deficit to win 68-52 and the Quaker men put a thumping on Greensboro.  The men's final was 82-67, but Guilford was up 43-27 at the half and 60-35 before rotating almost everyone in and out of the game.  Ben Strong looked good as did Quaker freshman George Neville.  Not sure of the final stats, but it looked like the Quakers had a good shooting night behind the arc.

Both men's teams are now 2-1.

Interesting story on Guilford's Ben Strong in today's Greensboro News &  Record as part of the paper's early season report on the 2005-06 outlook.  Seems Strong (6'10" center) attended the Pete Newell Big Man Camp in Las Vegas this past summer.  Ben says it really helped his game - footwork, moves, counter-moves and so forth - and it shows in the two times I've seen him play so far this season.

The Quakers are going to be a running team this year, so I'd expect 12-15 guys regularly going by the scorer's table.

LC lost an absolute heartbreaker tonight at Averett. Hornets tied the game on a Manos three, and went up by two on a Pat Prior layup with 33 seconds to go, but Cory McDaniel for AU nailed a deep three at the buzzer to win it. Few things that I noticed tonight were that the Hornets fought back in the second half after trailing by eight at the half, and played the Cougars strong in one of the toughest places to play in the USA South, as AU only lost at home three times last season. Hopefully, LC can get back on track this weekend and come home from LaGrange 2-3.

Close, but still no cigar.

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Emory University outscored Washington and Lee, 13-7, in the final 3:38 en route to a 76-71 win over the Generals in men's basketball action on Tuesday night in Atlanta, Ga.

In the second half, W&L maintained the lead until a three-pointer by senior forward Jeff Hall at the 11:09 mark gave Emory a 52-51 advantage.  The teams would exchange the lead over the next several minutes and a pair of free throws by junior guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) gave W&L a 64-63 advantage with 3:38 remaining. It would be the Generals' last lead in the game as the Eagles went on the aforementioned 13-7 run to close out the contest.

Halkitis finished with a team-high 19 points, while sophomore forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) notched a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Femi Kusimo (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) chipped in with 11 points and six boards.
