VWC is going down this weekend, and the Quakers will be going to Salem. For all of the hype about VWC's home court advantage, they sure had some scares at home this year. Averett should have beaten them (again), and would have if Rumley hadn't fouled out at the 5 minute mark (the exact moment VWC started coming back on them).  HSC did beat them in the Batten, and CNU was robbed of a win there. Miss. College is going to give the fish way more than they can handle.

I remember hearing a lot of similar sentiments last year.  The Marlins had "some scares at home" in the tournament, several in a row, and walked away with the title.  They thrive on close games and rising to the situation.  Perhaps MC will win but they'll certainly have to earn it.  You could argue a lot of teams "should have beat them" in this home winning streak; yet, no team has.  Should've, could've isn't good enough.  It would be an accomplishment for MC to walk out of Batten with a W.  It should be a great game..

Shows how much you know.  HSC beat VWC in the ODAC tournament in SALEM!!  CNU wasn't robbed, VWC beat them earlier this year and Averett "should have" won but they didn't.  "IF RUMLEY DIDN"T FOUL OUT"....well I got news for you ....HE DID and it was his own fault.  Wahhh!!!

Ruffled some feathers, didn't I? Blah, blah, blah. You'll see this weekend.

Airborne,  Algernon is correct...The Marlins last loss at home was to HSC November 30th, 2005.  I was at that game and the main reason they lost was because Coach Macedo sat out one of his starters, or they might have won.  In the last 3 years the Marlins have lost 13 games, 10 away and 3 at home.  Home court advantage is HUGE.   SCARES don't count.

The fish put together a great run to close out the season LAST YEAR, but they have lost 4 games this year, twice that of Miss. College. And may I remind you that MC just DESTROYED Maryville, a very good team. If not for geographic considerations, this game would be played well to the south, in the state of Mississippi. The fish will lose. And by the way, didn't VWC used to be located in Norfolk? When did they move the campus to Virginia Beach?

Airborne

I just received a message off the board from someone else as confused as I am why VWC would be claiming to be located in Virginia Beach. Anyone know why they are claiming to be located in the more glamorous-sounding Virginia Beach? Is there something wrong with Norfolk?

The campus actually sits on the Norfolk/Va. Beach border with the line running right thru the baseball field if I remember correctly.

The postal address is in the city limits of Norfolk.  However, about 80% of the college campus is in the city of Virginia Beach.  It is a strange thing because the college is very small.

In fact, in the last few years the college has put "Norfolk" on all of its things.  Norfolk Academy is next door in "Norfolk", but the neighborhoods on the other side of campus are "Virginia Beach".

If anyone in their right mind wanted to recruit a student or athlete, they would use Virginia Beach as a location for VWC.  Just the word "beach" sells people.  But its obvious your not a business minded person.

I won't rant on here how VWC or MC will win or lose, but I will say that your predictions are pretty bold.  This will be a good game...we will see how it unfolds.

I thought you guys might be interested in how the Chippewa nation in Minnesota and the Dakotas follows the basketball exploits of Guilford's Ben Strong, whose father Ed Strong lives in Red Lake, MN.  Notice the banner across the top of the front webpage and then scroll down to March 4 news to see the report on the JHU game and March 3 to read about the Manhattanville game.  They report every game and every news release.  Some who attended the JHU game reported a little inappropriate behavior by a small number of JHU students towards Ben, but I heard Ben's father and brother, who happens to be a student at NYC's Columbia University, and other family went over, introduced themselves and in a polite way asked them to be "more understanding."  :)  All's well that ends well.

Go Quakers!  Go Marlins!  Go ODAC!

In trying to find the Ben Strong article, I thought this one very interesting.

D3hoops.com uses Virginia Beach as the dateline because the gymnasium appears to be in Virginia Beach.

Must be that VWC education.

That's sad. It really is. This is a basketball game; no one wants to trade personal insults with you.

You're absolutely right, and when HE initiated the exchange by questioning my business savvy, I reacted badly. My apologies to all VWC fans. I still say that you'll all be disappointed this weekend. JAF02 is right though about it being a good game. I wish I could be there to see it.

Dear Airborne - I guarantee you that MC has never ever seen the likes of VWC's All-American, 2000+ point scorer Brandon Adair. Of course, MC will double and triple team Mr. Adair and that will leave Mr. Balenga and Mr. Fantin open, two very dangerous scorers. TonTon(and, we, of course, expect that someone will make fun of his name - they always do) has not exactly been a scoring threat the last couple of wins. I pity the opposition if Balenga gets hot, and he's due! All that being said, this weekend has all the potential to be some of the greatest games yet played. I wish all the teams the best. GO FISH ;D
