It's a long story that I will tell you (as brief as I can) in a PM if you are interested!  This is an ODAC Board and I prefer not to share the problems of the GSAC on this Board.

The GSAC's problem is that there are only 4 men's schools in the conference.  The conference used to have a problem involving a school with embarrasing athletic programs (excluding men's basketball) and unacceptable facilities.

sounds like the gsac should just disband and try to form a new conference

The GSAC's (Great Sorry @$$ Conference) problem (amongst others) was a double standard in administering conference policies.  If it were embarrassing athletic programs as many would like to believe then a certain women's school in the Conference located in Macon, Georgia should have been on the list for expulsion.  Then they find something else to whine about.  It goes on and on!

I note that Fisk's men's track team finished tied for 10th in the nation at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

To my knowledge No Current GSAC school has ever finished in the Top 10 in any NCAA team Competition.  I guess that could be considered embarrassing also...

Did the Fisk track team act like hooligans and throw their equipment all over the place, taunt fans, etc., after that finish? I guess considering it's Fisk, we should at least be happy they decided to show up instead of canceling at the last second.

Did any Wesleyan team act like hooligans and throw their stuff all over either?

Brian Hamilton

Scottie,

I respect your opinion about the CCIW being the best conference (and they may be), but basing it on rankings is not the best way to justify it.  The CCIW, the WIAC, the NJAC, and the NESCAC all receive more votes for the top 25 because they are perceived as strong conferences.  If you look, a team from the WIAC with 7 or 8 losses might be listed in the top 25.  Don't get me wrong, I think all of them are great conferences and are every bit as good as if not better than the ODAC, but using the top 25 to justify is an easy out.  It is extremely difficult to find a way to compare teams that are in different regions of the country due to limited out of region competition.  So, the best basis is probably post season success.  That is why Pat and others have begun considering the ODAC one of the power conferences.

So I guess you would call the behaviour (or hooliganism) of the host team's fans (i.e. taunts) the model of sportsmanship to follow then? What about them, huh?  There are at least two sides to every story my friend...

You are so correct and I agree (see above), but the allegations made on this board by "scotswin" and "The Not dealing with a full (observation) deck" had to be responded on this board despite my previous invitation to discuss this in PMs.

Scottie, I forgot to add, I have to agree with Brian Hamilton that the ODAC is also a power conference IMHO!

Wilbur,

News flash -- fans misbehave all over the place at every level of college ball.

Players are held to a higher standard, and rightly should be.

Too bad you didn't think of that when you chose to respond the first time, Wilburt.

BTW, name calling also reflects excessively well upon your institution, sir.

I did, read a little closer.  Why can't you let this go?

BTW, I still think the ODAC is a power conference!

FYI, I am an alum of Fisk and an alum of an ODAC school as well.

I don't see where in your 7:45 or 12:49 post you suggested it would be better if you hadn't responded. I do see you using impolite language in place of a name of a conference, however ...

Do agree this is better taken off this board. However, wilburt, you precipitated the escalation of this discussion, and you should recognize that.

I did and do agree that this is better taken off this board Pat.  I have previously noted that for the record.  However, I disagree with you in that Scotswin and The Observation Deck escalated this discussion after I wanted to discuss this in PMs.  Would it have been better if they hadn't responded?  Or are you just focusing on me for purposes of discussion? In fact your response is better suited for a PM for me to respond to rather than on this Board and will finish my post in a PM to you momentarily.

Your lack of agreement is duly noted. But so was the name-calling, both of a conference and a poster. I don't know what result you expected from that, but I think what happened was somewhat predictable.
