Fear the Generals!

Washington & Lee is an interesting team.  I think they've got a lot of returning talent.

Scottie ....  You forgot the Hornets ....  ;)

I think I'd put Lynchburg in there at #9, ahead of Easter Mennonite.  I could be wrong, maybe they end up higher.  Echols and Safo seems like a good base to work from.

Who should be some sophmore's and junior's to watch with break out seasons?

W&L: whoever ends up being the PG

We played a 3 guard rotation last year. We lost Chris Halkitis; who had an excellent senior season. I think we have some freshmen that might be able to fit into the rotation. The eye opener might be sophomore Zach White. The Gennies should improve on last season. I think there are 2 clear cut teams ahead of them; after that the crystal ball gets kind of fuzzy ;D

Guilford has revealed its men's basketball schedule.  Here's a link
http://www.guilford.edu/athletics/mbball/schedule.html

The schedule opens with a Nov. 5th exhibition against the D1 U. of South Carolina Gamecocks (that should wake up the freshmen).  I guess Elon didn't want another crack at the Quakers.  The game is in Columbia, SC; perhaps Guilford coach Palumbo wanted to spot Guilford alum coach Dave Odum the home floor advantage to even things up.
;D

The home opener is against NCAA tournament team Villa Julie.  The schedule also features NCAA tournament teams Averett (weren't they?), Hampden-Sydney and uh-oh Virginia Wesleyan (these last two twice, for bad measure).  Also featured are threatening teams like Roanoke, W&L. R-MC and the dreaded Bridgewater.  The schedule is rounded out by the usual ODAC suspects, with a leavening of USA South teams.

Sounds like fun!

Posters, wake up! It's basketball season...what we've been waiting for. Forty-Four & Matty - tell us about the 07/08 Marlins. Who's new. Who's back. Who looks good. Need info. thanks.

FortyFour

JWW,

Unfortunately, I don't think I have any more info than you.  From what I've been able to gather from here and various other websites, it does look like Macedo has added some pretty good freshman.  I think the Marlins will be very, very good this year, and they should be loaded in the backcourt.  Naturally, the question will be who can step and fill Adair's shoes down low.

Is there any truth to the rumor that David Carlson will not be playing basketball for the Yellow Jackets this year?

FortyFour - Yes, we need another beast, like an Adair or a Doino. What do you bet Coach Macedo has found one. I'm thinking these guys might start: Ton Ton, Tyler, D'Juan, Norman, and Zac. Ari and Stephen are right there, too.

A freshman Adair would be an incredible find, but even if you find one, it will be the freshman version.  Thing about VWC is, you've got that whole really fine team.  Who knows, it might do the trick for you.

JWW, what do you think about Macedo going with the three-guard starting lineup (my guess would be Balenga, Tucker, Dixon), with Fantin and Hassell down low?

BTW, I think Fields is on the verge of becoming a special player at this level - it may not be this year, but he has all the tools to be a tremendous wing in the ODAC.

FortyFour

JWW, one more tidbit...I can't remember if it's been posted here, but a little info on a potential new face for the 07-08 Marlins, Julius Carlton: http://virginiapreps.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=695513

Sludge, I agree with your assessment of VWC.  We were very fortunate to have a player like Adair for the past several years, not to much unlike the situation your Quakers are in now with Strong.  Replacing guys like that at this level is a tall task.

I hope that is not true. Where did you hear that at?

I know nothing about it.  Anything I'd say would be pure speculation, so can't do that either.

But Algernon's smarter than I am! 8)  He keeps tabs on these things, so difficult to say either way.

Jacketlawyer .... I wish that I actually knew something about this, but I really don't.

A fan and very close follower of the HSC basketball team who picks up a lot of information here and there asked me whether I'd heard that David Carlton might not be back for the Yellow Jackets.  He clearly phrased it as only a rumor, so I thought I'd ask whether anyone on this discussion board knew anything of substance.  It's a rumor that might not have any legs at all.

jdubyadubya

FortyFour - oooh boy! Julius Carlton looks like a keeper!  :)
