Scottie - I admire your unwavering support for the Hornets!  Who would you pick if we can get Lynchburg a game at Duke on Senior night in Cameron Indoor Stadium?  :)

If that happened I would go out and buy a lottery ticket the day after I found out we had scheduled that game! Imagine the environment, Cameron! Playing there would be a dream come true! About the only way it could be better for me is if it was @ Kentucky, because UK is my favorite team.  Mentioning UK, our opponent on friday (Liberty) just played Kentucky the other day ago and got beat easily (of couse they got paid between $50,000 and $55,000 for it, surely will help cover the costs of scholarships), but Larry Blair scored 26 on them! After the game Tubby Smith was praising him heavily and basically said he can get any shot he wants.  Unfortunately we have to play agianst him on Friday, should be an interesting game.

I'm no Pete Rose with betting against my own team or even picking against them, but you gotta be realistic here! The only way a D3 team will ever beat Duke is if Duke all of a sudden becomes a bad team that can barely win 5  games considering the conference they are in! That's probably about the only time Duke would ever schedule a D3 team in the regular season as well. I mean, some pro teams wouldn't even be able to beat Duke most years (note: pro isn't including NBA)

I guess the closest we'll ever get to playing a program with such a storied tradition is if the JV team is able to play UNC's JV team at the Dean E. Smith Center. Yes, that's right, Michael Jordan's UNC. And, yes, that is a possibility that could happen this year. No Jokes whatsoever - the JV team may get to play in the Dean E. Smith Center. Sure, it's just UNC's JV team, but it's the Dean E. Smith Center!!!

Scottie - I was only teasing you when I asked you about Lynchburg at Duke.  Let me give you my opinion.  I lived in Durham for 16 years and have attended games at Cameron many times and, yes, it is a super atmosphere - even brutal for the opponent.  I have also seen Duke play last year and Lynchburg last year.  I sincerely believe the Blue Devils would win by 50 if they had mercy on the Hornets and played everyone on the bench.  If they kept the starters in, I think they would win by 70-80 points.

Now, I will be at the GC/LC game on Dec. 3.  I realize the Hornets beat GC twice last year and, in my opinion, the Quakers ought to have their butts kicked for letting both those games get away!  I hope the Hornets have a fine season, but I don't think they'll sweep Guilford again this year.  If I'm wrong, I'll take my lumps, but I'm not seeing it happen.

ODACfan1

What is Guilford looking like without the services of Lawhorn and Atkinson.  It seems that everyone likes them this year, so I guess with them they would have been ODAC champs huh?  Any input on them this year?

My tomorrow picks:

W&L(sentimentally)sp?
E&H
R-M
VWU
EMU
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

The Quakers will be a running team with 12-14 guys playing per game.  Strong will start and play more this year - he's put on maybe 15 pounds and attended Pete Newell's Big Man Camp this summer.  Other starters look like freshman Neville, Kimbrough, Jo. Snipes and Burge, but I expect Edmonds, Lockett, Taylor and Wells off the bench often.  Freshman George Neville (6'4") has looked good and freshman Barry Wells (6'6") is coming along.  Everyone seems to like the running style.  They were 9 of 26 from 3-point range versus Greensboro, so it looks like the 3 will be a staple.  I think transfer Lockett is filling Atkinson's "first off the bench offensive spark" role.  The pace will definitely be faster with Strong playing more instead of Lawhorn.  I expect 80+ points a game.  Other than a 2nd half letdown versus NAIA DII #6 Embry-Riddle on the road, the defense has been pretty good and uses the transition game to generate offense.   The Quakers are 2-1 and I'm curious to see what style prevails versus E&H.

Mr. Divac,
I agree that you've made some wild picks.  Imagine, picking R-MC to defeat Lynchburg tonight.  Have  you learned nothing from Scottie?   :)

ok guru's...I'm going to throw a bonus into the pick'ems tonight. For 2 points...pick the total points scored by both teams in the Guilford v. E&H game tonight. Closest to the total gets the 2 points. There can be more than one winner here. You don't have to pick the score itself (you can if you like) but ONLY the total points scored. So for you gurus who have already picked...post or e-mail your bonus picks before gametime tonight!

Don't forget to get your "pick'ems" in as there are 5 games on tap tonight!

My picks...

Tonight...   EMU-BC-E&H-VWC-RMC

Saturday... RC-BC-HSC-GC-RMC

Sunday...RMC-VWC

I like the fact that Roanoke has chosen to get the cream puffs out of the way first in the ODAC...Nothing like opening with EMU-VWC-RMC in the same week  :o. Saving grace I guess is they get them all at home... ::)

i went to the duke/seton hall game with a buddy (and fellow monarch fan)...after watching duke hold seton hall to 13 first half points (while scoring 47), the question was...would methodist score 13 on duke in a half if they (duke) played ALL OUT?? - the conclusion we came to was that, while mc MIGHT score 13, duke would probably score 60...i think your 70-80 point margin is a little generous...it might be 100 if they played the regular rotation and TRIED to win by that many - who would check williams...he could score 50 if they pounded the ball into him - no disrespect for d3 players, but duke would beat a lot of lower level d1's by 70-80 if they wanted to

Narch - you're probably right about Duke winning by 100 if they left the first team in and kept up the pressure.  I was trying to let Scottie down easy, so I shaved a few points off what I really thought would happen.  Look at what happened to DII NC Central (lost by 60, 102-42)!  If Lynchburg ever played Duke, we'd have to plant some rumor about Scottie so the "Dookies" would focus on him for the whole game.  Scottie, could you handle it?  lol

steelyglen ...  Great idea.

My bonus pick:  258 points.   (Emory & Henry 133, Guilford 125)
