Scottie - I was only teasing you when I asked you about Lynchburg at Duke.  Let me give you my opinion.  I lived in Durham for 16 years and have attended games at Cameron many times and, yes, it is a super atmosphere - even brutal for the opponent.  I have also seen Duke play last year and Lynchburg last year.  I sincerely believe the Blue Devils would win by 50 if they had mercy on the Hornets and played everyone on the bench.  If they kept the starters in, I think they would win by 70-80 points.
i went to the duke/seton hall game with a buddy (and fellow monarch fan)...after watching duke hold seton hall to 13 first half points (while scoring 47), the question was...would methodist score 13 on duke in a half if they (duke) played ALL OUT?? - the conclusion we came to was that, while mc MIGHT score 13, duke would probably score 60...i think your 70-80 point margin is a little generous...it might be 100 if they played the regular rotation and TRIED to win by that many - who would check williams...he could score 50 if they pounded the ball into him - no disrespect for d3 players, but duke would beat a lot of lower level d1's by 70-80 if they wanted to
Narch - you're probably right about Duke winning by 100 if they left the first team in and kept up the pressure.  I was trying to let Scottie down easy, so I shaved a few points off what I really thought would happen.  Look at what happened to DII NC Central (lost by 60, 102-42)!  If Lynchburg ever played Duke, we'd have to plant some rumor about Scottie so the "Dookies" would focus on him for the whole game.  Scottie, could you handle it?  lol

If I were able to emotionally and psychologically withstand the abusive verbal beratement I received from the Dookies, I would consider that the greatest accomplishment ever in my entire 21+ years of existence on earth. Lord knows what kind of stuff they would find in their research on me.  they have such intelligent fans that they could probably psychologically break me down in a half hour or so. I'm just not used to being berated like players are used to.

Here are a few things I have personally witnessed at Cameron Indoor Stadium:

A thousand Duke Students with bald skull caps when Maryland Coach Lefty Driesell came to town.  Printed on the top of the skull was a gas gauge with the needle pointing to Empty.  And he's a Duke alumnus!

Every Duke student holding exam "blue books" with a big F on them when Olden Polynice of UVa was caught cheating.

Thousands of aspirins and BVDs thrown on the court when NC State players were caught shoplifting headache tablets and underwear from a Raleigh K-Mart.

Disco night and record albums everywhere when former NC State player Chris Washburn was caught stealing a stereo from another student's room.

One side of Cameron yelling "Sure" and raising their arms and the other side yelling "Unsure" and holding their arms rigid by their sides when Maryland Coach Gary Williams was sweating even more than he normally does.

One side of Cameron yelling "Orange" and the other side yelling "Dress" until the wife of a former Clemson Coach finally stood up in the 2nd half and waved to the crowd.

If you ever get a chance to go to Cameron, you have to go!

Scottie, they would know your middle name, your grades, the medical records from your urology exam and what kind of Underoos you wore when you were six!  I've seen them emotionally break visitors before the bus pulls into the parking lot.  I'll spot you to about midway through the opening half, which, by the way, is about ten minutes longer than I would probably make it.  lol

Um.....let's say E&H 121 and Guilford 115 (236)

LC 82 RM-C 77    LC WINS FIRST GAME OF SEASON WITH BIG UPSET OVER TOP 25 TEAM!!!!!!

They play tonight at 7:00.  However, in a preview of things to come...

Randolph-Macon's Megan Silva scored a game-high 26 points as the #10 ranked Yellow Jackets defeated the Lynchburg College women's basketball team 101-46.

R-MC outshot the Hornets from the field, 49% to 23%, and held a decided turnover advantage, causing 32 turnovers to their 16 giveaways. The 55 point loss deficit for Lynchburg was the worst since the 1986-87 season, when LC lost by 59 to Catholic 115-56.

Lynchburg (0-3/0-1 ODAC) is back in action on Friday at 7 p.m., when Hollins University comes to Turner Gym for an ODAC match-up.

Seems like (almost) everyone is picking E&H over Guilford tonight.  With "the System," I realize playing the Wasps in Emory is an atypical ODAC game, but I hope you guys are wrong.  Gee, I'd hate to start the league schedule with an "L"!  :)  Go Quakers!

I certainly enjoyed has' little stories about those creative Cameron Crazies - regardless of whether you're "one of them" or not you have to enjoy such atmosphere at a college game....

On the other side of the world, I'm off tonight to take my usual place in the stands of the Bast Center, where students are encouraged (and threatened with removal occasionally) to keep quiet and cheer only with golf claps.

maroons6thman

Roanoke news of note - The Roanoke Times reporting this morning that RC's Ben Shrader will not play in tonight's game due to the ankle sprain....

I have the soph. guard so far at 12.8 pts/gm and 19 of 39 from the field so far, coming off the bench avg. 21 min/gm.  Hopefully he'll be back this weekend if indeed out tonight.

Thanks, maroons6thman.  Going to Duke games when I lived in Durham are some of my fondest memories.

By the way, I saw an ESPN(?) interview with Kentucky Head Coach Tubby Smith and they asked him the toughest place he had ever played or coached.  Without hesitation, he said Alumni Gymnasium at Guilford College.   Tubby played forward for High Point College (now High Point University) the same four years I was a student at Guilford.  Both schools were bitter rivals along with Elon and others in the old NAIA Carolinas Conference.  Alumni Gym at GC is the predecessor to their current venue (Ragan-Brown Fieldhouse) and the Quakers were virtually unbeatable in the 60's & 70's in that gym.  Of course, having a team that won the 1973 National Championship with future NBA players M.L. Carr, World B. Free and Greg Jackson didn't hurt.  lol  If the game started at 7, you had to be in line by 6 to get a seat.  Good memories .... and good basketball!  :)

primetimeplayer...do I enter your pick in the "pick'em" or is this a one-shot crystal ball vision on your part?Just trying to keep the records straight...

...and I know the Cameron crazies having been there a time or two myself...it's tough wearing red in there that's for sure...and 'll leave it at that!

hasanova...having banged bodies with Bob Kauffman and Pat Moriarty I can attest first hand to how tough that program was "back in the day". When Carl Scheer was your play by play guy you know things were rolling...
