Guilford College at Shenandoah U. should be a heckuva game Monday.  Shenandoah looks like it is strong, athletic, quick, skilled and used to winning.  That seems to be an accurate description of quite a few USA South teams, but maybe more so for SU.  I'll bet both teams are looking at that game as a pretty good test.  With SU on the home court, a prediction might be pretty even.  Its hard to know which team would even win the rebounding battle, much less the game.

I plan to be there.  I think Winchester is somewhere between North Carolina and Buffalo.  In VA, it is north of plenty of parts of Maryland!

There are some other fun games over the next few days, including a cool matchup of Averett at VA Wesleyan.

 EMU site says:

BC 84
EMU 83 Final/Overtime.

Thoughts anyone?

I read the recap ... it sounded like an exciting, back-and-forth finish ... just what you need in a rivalry game.  These two teams were picked fairly close together in the preseason, so I'm not surprised by the score and outcome.  I hope we have a lot of similar games in the ODAC this season.

There's a really nice story and photo of Ben Strong on the front-page of today's sports section in the Greensboro News & Record ... I thought some of you might enjoy reading it.  Good luck to the Quakers tomorrow night at Shenandoah!

Shenandoah is currently on a nice streak.  For a team that was picked to finish #6 in the 7-team USA South, they are doing remarkably well ... even picking up some votes in the d3hoops Top 25 poll.  They played even with Roanoke, losing to the Maroons by 4 points, and handily beat EMU.

Averett University was picked in the preseason coaches' poll to win the USA South. The Cougars are the defending champs and almost beat the Marlins in a 1st-round NCAA matchup last March.

Greensboro College and N.C. Wesleyan finished two-three in the preseason poll, with each getting a couple of first-place votes.  The last 4 teams in the poll were:

CNU
Methodist
Shenandoah
Ferrum

SU lost to Mary Washington college in Fredericksburg yesterday by 9 I think so I think that will make SU more hyped up 2 play Guilford

Yeah, I'm worried about that as well.  The final was Mary Washington 92, Shenandoah 80, but the Hornets blew a big second half lead ... I think it was 52-38 when the Eagles had a 35-5 run.  Wow!  Sometimes I'd rather draw a team still on a winning streak than coming off a loss - losing makes good teams mad and no one wants to lose two in a row, especially at home.

Here are my picks for ODAC games over the next couple of days in the run up to Christmas:

12/17: VWC vs. AC - VWC
            GC vs. SU - GC
            CNU vs. LC - CNU
            Muhlenberg vs. RMC - RMC
12/18: Roanoke vs. Hope - RC
12/19: Defiance vs. RC - RC

Happy Holidays to one and all! ;D

and we're slightly to the right of Colorado...  ;D

Should be a good game tonight.  Just glad to be able to see Ben Strong play.  I've heard so many great things about him, so I'm really looking forward to watching him in person. I just found out that SU is out already for Christmas, so I'm thinking the crowd is going to be a little small tonight.  That's a shame because it should be a great game - but after the weekend's game it's a question as to if SU can compete...  regardless, it should be fun to watch.

VWC knocks off Averett...I think the final was 68-56.

Congratulations to SU.  Guilford had a higher shooting percentage, more FT's and outrebounded the Hornets, 42-30.  SU's 12 three-pointers to zero for GC - that's the only stat you need to note.  If Guilford hits even one three-pointer or SU misses one more, the Quakers win.  I was worried about this game and my fears proved correct.  Anyway, nice win for the Hornets.

Nova - OUCH! Ben Strong and Company looked tired and flat the first half and SU took them to the woodshed. Ben was defended by Jeremiah Lawrence all night and you could tell that SU prepared very well for this game. Congratulations to Coach Rob Harris for a great game plan. The inside game was completely shut down by SU but more important Guilford was missing dinky shots inside - 7 in a row at one point. They were also tentative in their passing -- bad choices, loopy passes, not crisp. It would seem like they were always looking for either Ben or Tyler inside instead of taking a little jumper outside. Guilford got a little spurt out of Ben at the beginning of the second half and then they played pretty much even up from there. Guilford had a chance at three put backs at the buzzer and couldn't get it done with the ball actually wedging itself between the basket and the backboard at the buzzer. Guilford also was not defending the 3 ball from the corners. SU was draining the 3 all night long. I'm thinking maybe Shingleton got to the Quakers. Great game for the Hornets. Ben Strong and Tyler Sanborn are about it for the Quakers. Strong is impressive when he gets going -- he struggled getting back and forth down the floor last night. Sanborn looks like the real deal and might even be better than Strong when he's a junior or senior. This was a game that the Quakers should have won.

Yep.  Typically, the Quakers are not a good three-point shooting team either.  The Hornets hit 12 and the Quakers zero.  I worried also about the long break between games.  Guilford had not played since the 8th and SU played Saturday.  Also, it's worth noting SU's played 11 games to 6 for GC.  With that being said, however, Guilford can be their own worst enemy.  Same story as the Greensboro game.  Anyway, they have to get better!
