Thanks for those insights, algernon. I live in the midwest and if I'm lucky I get to come east once a season to see the Jackets play. Just to clarify my statement of yesterday, I didn't mean to imply that I was surprised at R-MC's win, only that I did not expect it to be that easy. I don't know much about east coast teams outside of the ODAC.

Today's game proved that all you say about the Jackets is right on target. And the freshmen are an impressive group. With Dixon the only senior, things look bright for the next few years.

Quote from: hasanova on December 20, 2007, 03:15:06 PMThanks, narch.  You are the voice of reason with a courtside seat - my kind of guy!  You CLEARLY DO need a +1 Karma, so think of it as trading baskets.  :)
looking at the score, i must be trading two's for threes...and you're hitting a much higher percentage :)
Well, sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to these things, so I guess I must have a poetic license.  :)

Just wanted to congratulate Hampden-Sydney on their win over Greensboro today. I wish Mississippi College would have played a better game Saturday against Greensboro and gotten an opportunity to play the Tigers, but I was impressed with HSC. I watched Guilford and Virginia Wesleyan last year, and this year's HSC team has to be right with them as favorites to win the ODAC this year. Maybe we end up with a matchup later this year if we are both fortunate enough to make the another NCAA tourney.

The record of ODAC teams in games against other conferences' teams is now 34-18

Thanks for figuring that out!  So, ODAC has pulled ahead of the infidels.
Congrats to Hampden-Sydney, Randolph-Macon, and Washington & Lee on a great weekend.

Tigers defeat LaGrange easily, 67-53.  Turner King had 15 points and 10 rebounds.  Troy Kaase had 11 points and Tyler Murray had 9 rebounds.

New Top 25 poll, for what it's worth .....

Guilford (4-2) is ranked as #12, Virginia Wesleyan (5-2) as #21, and Roanoke (5-2) as #33.  In my opinion, you could just as easily rank Randolph-Macon (7-2) or Hampden-Sydney (5-1) up there with Guilford and Virginia Wesleyan, but that's OK .... Time will pass, games will be played, and which teams actually deserve to be ranked within the Top 25 will become clearer as the Quakers, Marlins, Maroons, Yellow Jackets, and Tigers actually play each other over the next 2-3 weeks.

The Tigers will play Mary Washington (6-2) and New Jersey City (7-3) this Friday and Saturday evening and they should start getting some consideration if they win these two games and come out of the weekend with a 7-1 record.

Final:  Guilford 82, Averett 63 in Greensboro

Guilford trailed twice tonight at 42-41 & 49-48, but smoked the Cougars down the stretch, 34-14, including a decisive 32-8 run.  Quaker guard Clay Henson had the hot hand, getting 9 threes & a career-high 29 points.  Henson scored the first 17 points for Guilford on five 3-pointers & a 2-pointer ...  his nine 3-pointers tied Jordan Snipes' school record set last season vs Lynchburg.  In all, GC hit 13 behind the arc & AU hit seven, so 20 total.  Ben Strong had 13 points/10 rebounds & Eric Belkoski chipped in 11, but it was clearly Henson's night.

VWC knocks off Methodist this afternoon, 79-51.  Fantin notched 21 points and 7 rebounds, TonTon added 16 points.  Julius Carlton with another solid effort, with 8 points and 9 rebounds.

Lovely win for Guilford over Averett.  Fine, active play by the whole team.  Clay Henson was looking Snipesian out there.  Guilford seemed to be on the ropes a bit at halftime, but they came out and nailed it down well in the second half.

Sure, Hampden-Sydney will be a handful for anybody.  VWC - who would think otherwise?  Roanoke and R-MC sound like trouble.  W&L, Bridgewater, E&H, this conference does look tough.

So, Sludge, the big man had another double-double. Solid performance. How does it look for Emory?

hasanova

Sludge, good to see you last night.  Are you and muckraker traveling to Atlanta this weekend?  If you've never seen Emory, allow some time to look around - beautiful!

With the four ODAC wins this week, it's now 38-18 (.679).

Nova - that's impressive. I, too, have been doing a little statistical work and have determined that VWC through 8 games has beaten their opponents by an average of 15+ points and lost each of their two games by only a point. TonTon has scored 153 total points, an average of 19 per game, and Tyler Fantin has 101, or an average of 13. That's pretty good for the two seniors. They have to continue to perform at that level if VWC is to win another ODAC championship and another NCAA III title ;D

Two players over 100 points after eight games is great.    Strong has 170 in seven games (24.3) and Henson's great game last night boosted him to 98 (14 ppg).  With Emory, HSC, RMC and VWC, the next 10 days are crucial for the Quakers.  Too bad the students aren't back for any of the three ODAC games.  Guilford's lost by five and two, both on the road and both when GC shot poorly behind the arc.  I'm very encouraged by last night's better long-range shooting, especially from Henson.  I saw a new 2nd-semester player on the roster - Rhett Bonner, a transfer from Presbyterian.  Bonner hit two 3-pointers last night in a reserve role.
