So, Sludge, the big man had another double-double. Solid performance. How does it look for Emory?

I don't quite get Emory.  They look small to me, but they've been outrebounding their opposition.  Emory did beat Maryville, a traditionally good team, and they've won six in a row.  I think Guilford will match up well with Emory.  The wild card is the road, which is a harsh mistress  (or is that the Moon?).

I think I'll get to the Emory game;  the Muckraker has other plans, and I'll catch up to her in the evening.  Hasanova, thanks for the tip, I'd love to tour Emory, but the family schedule looks problematic.

For you ODAC and W&L fans who couldn't make it to Baltimore tonight...

At the half... W&L 33, Goucher 24.
W&L has led by at least 14... Goucher got it to within 1 late in the half.

W&L playing pretty well... Goucher started slow, but their pressure defense caused some problems midway through the half, allowing the Gophers to get back into the game.

Very different styles and make-ups of these two teams. Goucher is smaller but won't give up and always has their hands around to disrupt passes, dribbles, and rebounds. W&L is much bigger inside and that will certainly be the determining factor in the 2nd half!

W&L beats Goucher 71-47.

2nd half was to be expected... W&L pounded the ball inside and got plenty of points and rebounds thanks to their size difference. That also allowed more shots from the outside since Goucher started to collapse inside on defense.

The game wasn't close after the first few possessions of the 2nd half. At least for the 1st half, W&L shot over 50% and Goucher was shooting 29% - would be surprised if that changed much in the second half.

There is a game of significance this evening at CNU: H-SC v Mary Washington.   Mary Washington will be a tough test for the Tigers.  They have a talented, experienced backcourt along with size and scoring ability in the front court.  UMW has beaten Shenandoah and Hood (H-SC fans will remember Hood as the NCAA first round opponent last season).   This is a big inter-regional game.

You're right, HSC and UMW is a big game!  I'm not sure if Guilford (5-2) at Emory (7-3) also counts as an intra-regional game, but both teams appear formidable.  Let's just say I'll be listening closely tomorrow afternoon!

Pat Coleman

Both teams are in the South region.

Thanks, Pat.  I thought both teams were counted as the South, but wasn't 100% sure since the UAA is such a geographically diverse conference!

The kid Matt Hale for UMW is a beast.  He lit us up for 28 points and 7 assists.

The beast ate a bagel tonight.  Byron Lawton must have done a good job on D in the Tiger win.

Looks like some of subs (Medlin and Trops) are getting less playing time. I know optimism was high for these two. I guess some coaches can get players playing and some coaches can't. Can anyone give insight on this  that's followed the Tiger's this year.

+1 Karma for that one!   :D

VWC knocks off Salisbury, 87-69.  The Marlins put 5 in double figures, with Fantin and Dixon leading the way with 16 each.  Salisbury was leading 37-30 at the break, but VWC outscored Salibury 57-32 over the final 20 minutes.

There is still plenty of optimism regarding Medlin and Trops.  Medlin is a talented offensive player.  He is still learning on the defensive end, but is coming along nicely.  He rolled an ankle against Old Westbury and missed the next two games, so that might have slowed him down a little.  Trops is an explosive, powerful athlete, but has some judgment lapses that cost him and the Tigers - things like getting whistled for illegal screens and pushing off when trying to get offensive position.  Coach Smith appears to be more comfortable with tighter rotatations,  but it looks like he's spreading the minutes around more lately.  Medlin and Trops are doing fine; they will develop into strong Tiger players.
