gp05-i should probably keep my big mouth shut-we should take this a__-whipping and learn from it and live to fight another day-congrats to you and your marlins....to DonHo-i spoke to mike earlier this week about some comments made on this channel regarding carlson's and dixon's behavior toward the HSC student section in the last minute of the game last saturday. We talked about how that stuff not only reflects negatively on his team but also on our school. He told me that he had already addressed that and assured me that it would not happen again or the consequences would be swift.I have always held mike in a very high regard because of the way he does things-he does not bend the rules to get a kid, academically or otherwise, and our kids absolutely get no special treatment in any respect-consequently,the types of kids we get usually reflect that high standard.I don't beleive that to be the case everywhere else, but that's just my opinion.yesterday,i was sitting in the top row with a few frat brothers and didn't see all that you did,but i  assumed he took him out after his lackadasical play,or the fact that mike took him to the woodshed verbally and he responded negatively so he benched him.Carlson is a great pure talent but he has personality issues. He has barely hung on academically, fails to take a leadership role when it's needed  at key times, and although i don't know this to be a fact i think he's given mike a hard time.I think that he's at a turning point here-3sdown has made some very valid points here about the status of our team. They can hunker down and do the things they need to do to be successful and win this thing or they can flame out---if they can play the way they did most of the first half yesterday a win against the marlins is not that hard-keep their cool, get the ball down on the blocks and score or kickout from there for 3-rebound, and not turn the ball over as much-the defense wasn't that bad-they don't want to play a game in the 50's or 60's-they want it higher...... if we can do that,we'll be ok and in the thick of it-Congrats to VWC on the win yesterday...

In the EMU game, Guilford had both the inside & outside game working.  It's very nice when it happens.   Strong was playing really well, and it was fun to see Belkoski hit three straight threes.  Henson continued the attack from anywhere.  In the second half, everyone on the team got to break a sweat.

EMU wasn't hitting shots so well, and they also had some unfortunate turnovers at least partially caused by the pressue.  The paint wasn't kind to EMU's offense, until late when the game was out of hand.  Maybe EMU was a little gassed from last night's big overtime track meet with Emory and Henry.

Tyler Sanborn played again, and he's working back into things.  Jordon Coston still isn't dressing for games.

A very good road weekend for Guilford!

VWC came ready for this game and because they did, they are now sitting in first place.

I think they've got company, eh?  A dogfight, like what we were predicting before the season.

Wow.  W&L 2 for 2 on the weekend.  If only I still lived in Lexington!!!

In addition to shooting the ball well, the Gennies seem to be solving some problems of years past, cleaning the boards better and protecting the ball.  They forced Sydney into 21 TOs and only 7 assists.  I haven't seen any games yet so my perspective is limited, but some good things are going on in Lex.

Do you know the connection between Denbow & Greg Bienemann?
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

Exactly. They've got HSC Wednesday, E&H Saturday and Guilford Sunday. If they make it through this stretch without a loss... watch out.

Hola ODACers -

Been quiet this year and kind of following in Steely's footsteps but found something funny and thought I would share...I'll probably regret it!  In the words of the immortal Yogi Berra a number of the posts about the VWC-RMC game seems to be "deja vu all over again."  To expedite the posting process, I thought I would put together a sample post so all you have to do is cut, paste and do a little editing.  The post is as follows:

Congrats to VWC for [narrowly beating, beating, thrashing] RMC this weekend.  While VWC deserved to win I leave the beach disappointed in [the Marlin player's behavior, the Marlin fan's behavior, my accommodations] as those of us educated at RMC have come to expect better.  Although we [shot, rebounded, passed, dribbled(feel free to use more than one)] poorly it was most likely due to our kids lack of focus and not the VWC defense.  Speaking of defense, we played GREAT defense today thanks to a(n) [inspired, fabulous, outstanding, superfantabulous] game plan developed and implemented by Coach Rhodes.  I was a little surprised that Coach Macedo [had a game plan to defend our juggernaut offense, could find his way to the gym, can count to five to get the correct number of players on the floor] given what I've seen in the past..but today...boy he got us.  The [thuggish, trashtalking, overly physical, convict] marlin players were, IN MY OPINION, allowed to get away with to much today.  Since our kids our [better students, better citizens, honest to god angels] and we do things the RMC way (while others do not) it makes it more difficult for us.  That being said, congrats to the Marlins on a job well done.

I hope that you take this in the manner in which it was written...a joke.  It just seems like I had seen some of those posts before.    :)

Well said oldfish ;D. You were missed this weekend at the beach where the old and young thuggish alumni beat on each other in something resembling a basketball game. Old #44 showed up!

Welcome back oldfish! ;D  I was wondering when you'd come up for air. 8)

JDUB - I was upset that I couldn't make it but I had family in town.  I heard through the grapevine that your #44 may need to get some gym time to work on his shot!  Also heard that one of the alumni has a 7 game losing streak in the alumni game!  I know who's team i am NOT going to be on next year!

Jacketlawter - As you know, I can only come up for air when my boss says I can!  That is unless you have a sweet job opening up in VA...but you probably wouldnt want to work with a VWC grad.  I hear bad things about those guys!   ;)

Worth noting:

After scoring 82 points in this week's three wins, Guilford's Ben Strong stands at 1900 for his 99-game career.  Barring an injury, I'd say he's a lock to reach 2000 sometime in the next 4-6 games.  Ben was worked slowly into the line-up as a freshman behind Genaro Lawhorn, but he's certainly been a force since starting as a sophomore.

If the Quakers can play a few postseason games, Ben might end his career in the 2200-2300 range ...  not an all-time Guilford record, but certainly the school's DIII record.  Guilford used to make deep runs in the NAIA, which required the regular season, conference tournament, district playoffs and nationals.  In years past, there were several future NBA stars with the opportunity to play 34-38 games a season.
