STH, in addition to the RMC frosh that you mentioned, Carlson scored 10 pts., plus Short and DeLaGrana run the point.  Looking forward to this class for 4 years.  As to Alex, he surely doesn't fit the RMC mold, but he'll add lots of 'flavor' to the team.  With 9 freshmen, there's lots of talent to go around.

Things are worse at Lynchburg than I thought.  From scottie's posts:

--Manos and Coach have an argument every once in a while.

--coach would have suspended him for the game, which he isn't afraid to do, like he has in previous years.

---We're pretty much doing the Liberty game for the money.

No wonder we are no longer hearing from Stan Bright about Lynchburg.  He must be biting his tongue hard.

-Manos and Coach have had arguments every once in a while since freshmen year. They normally only have about one or two "big" arguments a year and they get over it and continue on with things. In practice yesterday they were practically acting like they never had an argument. Manos is just one of those players where you you gotta take the bad with the good, and there's a lot more good than bad with him. I've never known of a coach at the college level that has never had an argument with a player.

-Coach will suspend players when they deserve it, like Macedo did with Ton Ton Balenga. We've only had a single one-game suspension in the last 3 years, and that was because someone came back late from winter break. I'm sure your boy Moir has had to suspend players before, doesn't mean that things are falling apart as you make it seem.

-Who doesn't play the D1 games for the money? Find me one coach who says the money wasn't one reason why they schedued it and I'll show you a coach who is lying! Unless you are a really good team, you aren't going to stand a chance of beating a D1 team, plus it's the easiest way to raise a good bit of money.

-Coach Bright's computer has been in the shop for repairs and he was on the road for Thanksgiving, he just got his computer back sometime yesterday.

We have no chemistry problems or any offcourt issues anything like that, the only problem we have is the record we are staring at right now and what we have to do to fix our problems on the court. Now if you think having a player that has an argument with their coach about once or twice a year, or having a coach who is willing to suspend a player, or having a coach who schedules a D1 game to get some moneyy, then I guess we are falling apart as are a bunch of good, bad, or just mediocre teams every year

STH...did you really refer to Roanoke College Coach Page Moir as..."your boy Moir "?  :o Maybe Coach Swickrath should be biting down hard on someone else's tongue! :P

I don't want t jump in the middle of the BC/W&L debate except to say this...I don't think BC played "down" to anyone's level. The Eagles are not good enough (at least not yet) to be able to turn it on and off like that. The Generals always play BC tough in Nininger Hall. Bridgewater is not a an up-tempo team as a rule like say Sydney, Macon and Wesleyan. when two slower paced teams meet it usually ends up "ugly". W&L, generally speaking, does not have the athletes that most of the other ODAC teams have and consequently must do all they can to compete! This usually means limiting possessions, slowing the tempo and "getting in the mud" for every point. This game is usually played early, right after the Thansgiving break, lending to more rustiness and less than crisp executon. I don't think anyone doubts BC is the better team, but remember Eagles honks, they were pre-season picked 7th, so they cannot afford to "play down" to anyone!
As I've said on this board for going on 7 years now...you take conference wins anyway you get them, be grateful you got one and move on to the next venue!

Ah those dreaded emu's...!

After all the discussion about the DIII Lincoln University Lions last week, especially from some in the RMC camp, you might be interested to read the lead story on d3.hoops.com.  There is also an action photo from the Lincoln/RMC game.

I wasn't aware that it would be considered offensive or showing a lack of respect or something like that

As you all know, we play jerry's kids tonight, er I mean Liberty! I don't expect to win this game and I'm predicting a blowout, as is the case with virtually every D3 vs. D1 game. Hopefully coach and the guys will be saving some for the Guilford game tomorrow. Although I don't agree with scheduling the game a day before an important conference game, since Liberty and Guilford apparnetly have similar playing styles, it will be a good way to prepare for the game tomorrow.

Scottie...would you introduce Coach Swickrath to your parents like this.."Mom, Dad, this is my boy Swickrath..."

Touche, my friend Steelyglen! PS. Peter Warren scored 9 points in his Nationals debut last evening. Sadly, they lost by 30 points! Today he plays two in Sigonella, Italy, on the island of Sicily.

jdubyadubya...are their chances of winning any better tonight?  ;) Congrats to Peter...what a great experience and opportunity!

jdubyadubya

Steely - you know, this board is getting pretty intense so I thought a little levity might ease things a bit. Perhaps tonight the Nationals might keep it a little closer.

scottie,

Just to clarify, my boys are Laurence and Ted.  Page Moir is Charlie Moir's son.

Could you please encourage Manos and coach Swickwrath to have one of their philosophical discussions right before the two games with Roanoke?

Don't you think the "lambs being led to slaughter" at least have the responsibility to give it their best effort?  If Lynchburg is just going to play the scrubs a lot against Liberty, do you think Liberty will want some of their money back?

I can't guarantee anything, but i'll give it my best effort  ;)

I do think they have the obligation to give their best effort, but sometimes some games take greater importance than others.

Looks like #44 (is he still #44?) represented the school, the ODAC, and D3 well in his pro debut! I'm sure they'll pull out a win in the next game!  ;) :P

hasanova:

The "Around The Nation" column by Mark Simon, was very good.  As a Lincoln Alumn, I hope the Lions continues what has been a successful start to the season.

I hope the transfers will help as oppose to disrupting the teams chemistry.  Coach Yuille was correct in that Lincoln has more offensive weapons this year compared to last year with just Jarrett Kearse, and Kyle Myrick.

I hope the Lions cand hold off the Yellow Jackets a second time when the travel to Ashland VA for the tourney at R-MC.

Scottie-

A few weeks ago I had a discussion on here with you about how LC would be finishing in or close to the same spot it has during the regular season over the past many years in the ODAC.  And you had a bunch of lip back about change and more change and LC is going to turn the corner...That is BS!  And your latest antics about playing Liberty U. for the money is more evidence.

Have you heard Herm Edwards speech..."You play the game to win the game!"  Coach Rhoades at Macon and Coach Shaver/Smith at HSC, as well as a number of other programs and coaches in the ODAC, can't get D1s to play them b/c they play the game to win the game!  When I was at Macon we went to VMI and scared the **** out of them at their place...They cancelled on us the following year.  Also, when I was at Macon we went to Furman University and scared the **** out of them.  Another year we went to Winthrop University, who was coming off of a Big South Championship and were expected to return to the NCAA Tournament and we scared the ever living **** out of them and should have won the game.

Yes, their is monetary incentive, but that is not why you play the game.  You play the damn game to win the damn game.  And if everyone on that team (including Head Coach, Assistant Coaches, Trainers, Managers, Statistics People, the girls that sit on the bench to make the team look pretty, etc.) doesn't believe that you can win that game then that is an indication of the state of the program that YOU are in, which is why RMC spanked your ass the other night by 30 or so!  At Macon we never went into one of those games looking at the next game...We went to win.  And not only did we go to win, but we by damn expected to win.

Then you want to say that you know of no DIII coaches that don't play D1 games for the money...You have known how many college coaches in your years?  I think one that got fired at LC for doing illegal activities (if I recall correctly) and now another coach (Swickrath..sp?) that appears to be a respectable coach that is trying to change the culture at LC, but he is having to battle not only Manos, who gets in the occassional argument with him, but his manager that wants to get on D3Hoops and mouth off about how LC is playing the game for the money.  If I were coach at LC, and I can say this b/c I have ACTUALLY coached at the college level and the high school level, I would suspend you for mouthing off on this board in an idiotic manner that denigrates LC's Basketball Program.

Now, I would rather you NOT mouth back to me in about 20 posts, which is your accustomed response pattern, about how I have been disrespectful to you, etc.  You seem to be a rather smart person that seems to be on the right path to being a respectable citizen of Virignia and the United States.  However, sometimes your mouth gets way out in front of your brain...And that is youth.  We have all been there and done that, but I would have thought you would have learned by now, especially on this board.  Please sit and think a little bit before responding to this post.  You have lots of great information to add to the ODAC Board, but you could do it in a much more mature and respectable way, not only for the sake of you personally, but for the sake of LC's Basketball Program.
