I really don't mind if Mr. Former NC State 1972 National Championship team member with David Thompson, Monte Towe, and Tom Burleson, et al., calls his son the former ODAC POY.   I am tired of having to kiss that national championship ring every time I see him.
Hey, if I had a ring I'd make everyone bow and kiss it!  And just for the record, it was 1974.  Right, steely?  :)

I'm confused ... if it's Vann Williford you guys are discussing, there seems to be some conflicting info out there.

It looks like Williford was a senior in 70 and NC State won the title in 74 ... so you might want to find out where that 72 ring came from before you kiss it again, tigerfan.   :o

Charles Shackleford said that..."Left hand, right hand, doesn't matter, I'm amphibious." Hilarious.

He's the guy!  Yes, it was pretty funny.  While we're discussing NCSU, does anyone know how State's freshman QB is?  He took quite a hit in last night's loss at S. Carolina.  It was close when I went to bed, but looks like the Gamecocks rolled, 34-0.

Grade 3 concussion...not sure what those grades mean, however. A shame too. He was pretty darn good at The Collegiate School in Richmond and a helluva baseball player too. I hope he's back soon, but first and foremost, I hope that he recovers fully!

Thanks, HSCfan.  Yeah, he looked good at times last night and he beat out Daniel Evans, a senior and legacy player, for the start.  Daniel's father, Johnny, was an NCSU QB in his day and is now in the booth as part of the radio crew.  Karma for you!

Boys the National Championship was in '74...the '73 team might have actually been a better team (27-0) but we'll never know for sure...Vann Williford ( certainly the better of the two) was ACC POY ( just for you emufan...and no you probably will never get it) in 1970. UCLA was the victim in the semi-finals in '74 with Marquette being dealt the final blow 74-62 on Monday Night.

Pat, interesting take, and no I haven't seen anyone drive up to the boys house yet and snatch the statue. But calling him an  "ODAC POY" may just cause emufan's head to explode...thanks for the words!

oldfish...leave it to you to trump all of us :D

jww...now that was funny...karma for you...love those 44's...

hasanova...good stuff... but me live vicariously through my kid? anyone who knows me knows that it just isn....well ok...guilty!!!

As for Russell Wilson, a grade 3 concussion usually means 3-4 weeks out of action...but we'll see...hopefully those headaches will recede very quickly...I like Daniel Evans as a young man, comes from a great parents, but he's just not an ACC level QB...,

thanks for the kinds words guys and little Miss Sunshine (Avery Marie) has welcomed day 19 in the world in great shape...

Steely - that's pretty cool about the statue in Kyle's front yard. Is it a likeness of Brad?  ;D

2 recent transfers to Hampden-Sydney:

Jonathan Mudd PG Jr. 6-2 175 Miami, FL/American (Shaw University)

Started 17 out of 28 games as a freshman.  Shooting % is below average and has a high T/O vs steal ratio.  But his former assistant coach, Blunt, is now at H-SC so there must be a talent level that will lend itself to D III competition.

Shane Payne G/F So. 6-5 205 Weston, FL/Sagemont (University of Florida).

Made team as a walk on his freshman year.  Also very good tennis player.  Top notch student (1450 on his SATs).  Played in 9 games as a freshman but was scoreless.  This is exactly the type of student athlete that H-SC wants.

Steely - the commish, but you knew that

Hey 1775 -

Jonathan Mudd is transferring in as a junior and those stats are from his sophomore year at Shaw. Mudd made the CIAA All-Rookie Team as a freshman at Shaw in 2006-07. Not too shabby when you take into account the talent level in that DII conference with the likes of Virginia Union (national power) and Virginia State, among others. Payne appears to have good size at 6-5 and could be an option for the Tigers at the small forward position, where they seem to really need some help.

ODACHOOPS

From what I have heard about these 2 new transfers to HSC, they both could be starting come Nov.  I've heard Mudd is a very quick and athletic pg who has a great handle with the ball.  Now whether he beats out Lawton for the starting job or not, at least HSC has 2 solid pg's to run in and out as appose to having one play 35mins a game (something I think hurt Lawton and HSC last year).  Shane I have heard good things about as well.  I heard he has great size and athletic ability and can really get to the basketball and finish, an ability that will really allow you to succeed in the ODAC.  I think these two late additions have the potential to take HSC from a team that lost a lot from a year ago and had many weaknesses and holes to fill to a legit top 3-4 team in the ODAC.

Many teams have lost quite a few seniors, but the ODAC has a reputation for attracting good new coaches and new players so this could be an unexpected  great year for the ODAC.  RMC with Short, Hunter, Brown, Varela & co. will be a force.  But keep your eye on sleeper EMU (George Johnson, D.J. Hinson) and Lynchburg (the new coach will bring a new system and a new D-1 attitude and perhaps some new faces).  Woolridge and a coach make Lynchburg legit.  Bridgewater has excellent talent (Trawick among others) and I am confident that the new coach at Bridgewater will be no chump.  ODACHOOPS mentions the 2 new transfers at HSC and if they are as advertised, then HSC has the ingredients with 2, perhaps 3 point guards (Lawton, Mudd & Dillard), shooters and scorers (King & Matthews) and some experience inside (Lasko, Trops & Payne) along with a new coach from the D-1 ranks bringing a new approach from William & Mary.  Oh, and did I mention VWC and Guilford with quality returners from last year's NCAA tourney teams.......No easy games in the ODAC this year.

Randolph College won't be easy either that's for sure. Clay Nunley has done an impressive job over there considering the circumstances and always has his troops ready to give the opponent the best game possible. They are a highly disciplined and intelligent squad that receives high quality instruction from the coaching staff, and they won't go down without a fight, I can guarantee you that. If you don't believe me, just ask Lynchburg, EMU, Washington College, NC Wesleyan, and Goucher about that - all 5 are D3 teams that they either beat or had them on their heels the whole game.
