You're welcome.  From Piedmont's point of view, no, it wasn't.  Hopefully, the season will begin to improve some for the Lions.

Did anyone else notice the weird scores in the Guilford/Virginia Wesleyan/NC Wesleyan games?  Check this out:

NC Wesleyan 76, Guilford 55
Guilford 74, Virginia Wesleyan 54
Virginia Wesleyan 84, NC Wesleyan 59

So, you think you want to use head-to-head results to be a handicapper?  :)

By the way, I saw a friend and Guilford insider today at the gym and he said VWC Coach Macedo delivered the post-game pizzas intended for the Marlins to the Guilford locker room after VWC's convincing loss to the Quakers on Dec. 6.  That's a long bus ride back to Virginia Beach with no supper!  Perhaps that explains part of their motivation for yesterday's lop-sided win over the Bishops!

Hey, now, I'm a true believer in comparative scores.  This PROVES that NC Wesleyan is 66 points better than NC Wesleyan! ;D

I'd comment further, but I'm off to Vegas. :P

Good luck!  Please put it all on Stephen Curry to score another basket this season.  :)

Nice win this weekend for the Fish! Re. the pizza mishap at Guilford...Macedo is notorious for withholding food and water from the Marlins. I have also heard that he makes them run alongside the bus for the last five miles into town after a particularly horrendous loss.

...seriously, holiday greetings to all you posters, especially to some of the older guys like nova, Jimmy Loesel, and Steelyglen. I would have included STH in that but he's disappeared! Anyhoooo...Merry ho, ho! ;D

Brian Hamilton

I am looking forward to the next two weeks.  HSC has only had one home game to this point in the season, but now they enter a stretch with 5 home games in a row.  After I have seen them play a few times over the break, I may provide more insight, but I haven't seen them play enough to say much at this point.  Hope everyone has a safe and merry Christmas!

ODACHOOPS

wow! what a first 1/3 of the season it was been...I dont think anyone could have predicted this kind of start.  You got teams that were thought to struggle this year or at least not finish in the top tier of teams such as an EMU pulling upsets and really showing signs of a team to worry about come Feb and then you have teams like RMC and VWC (especially VWC) who have struggled at times and are showing signs that they might not be the dominate powerhouse teams as in years past.  I know it is still very early and a team like VWC did just get a huge win at home agaisnt NC Weslyan but still i think even the fish faitfull would agree that things at the beach arent going exactly to plan, (as would those in ashland as well) especially with the 5 Mickey D's all americans vwc has :)

Turner King is hands down the POY up to this point in the season in my opinion..HSC has lil offensive productivity and that kid is literally CARING the team in each game scoring wise while seeing the opponents best D/double teams ect..I'm sure there will be other thoughts and opinions on that topic, this is a very special kid that comes around once in blue moon and I am sure Dee and HSC realize just that

EMU couldn't get it going on the road vs. CNU.   They went down by as many as 22 pts. before putting a comeback together to close it to 7. Had a chance to cut it further and missed 2 FT's. They ended up losing 82-71. Tough game! DJ Hinson scored 20 and was hot early from 3, but Orie Poncione got in serious foul trouble early which hurt EMU. My guess is if you told the staff and fans we will go into the break 6-3 2-0 in ODAC, everyone would say we'll take it.

Cheering for EMU and Bridgewater is like cheering for UNC and Duke.

It just doesn't happen.

Isn't this the truth!!!! nobody can say well i'm cheering for both teams!!! who does that?

he is an amazing player and i would say 2nd best in the odac right now.  you cant over look what justin short is doing (even if you convinced me king is poy i could never say hands down).  after a rocky start the senior has led them back to a few nice wins, great start in the odac, and his starts are very impressive.  he is averaging 20 ppg this year (25 in odac play) shooting 50 percent from the field (50.5 in odac) 89 percent from the free throw line (nice to have someone this clutch) 5 rebounds per game and thats impressive for a 5 11 guard (7 per game in the odac) has 23 assits and 12 steals vs 12 turnovers.  yes rmc is more talented then hsc and king does a lot but short is the leader of this team and the floor coach .  you can see that whenever he comes out  things dont go as smoothly and rhoades normally inserts him right back in.  This is all just my opinion and its very early in the season but I do expect this to come down to these 2 players

ODACHOOPS

Justin Short is absolutely a very special player and one of the tops in the ODAC.  Him and King will be the 2 and only 2 battling it out for POY come late Feb.  However like you mentioned in your earlier post, Short doesn't just have a little more talent around him, he has ALOT more talent around him then king.  Just like Short takes on the role other then just scoring ie: assists, floor general ect..king is not only the best scorer, shooter on hsc but he also leads the team in blocks, steals and 2nd in rebounding.  He does it all, again Justin Short is a great player one that Macon can not win without, but King is just as special and important to the Tigers and he is a Jr as appose to a Sr. and he is doing all this with a much less talented team (Yes that is a quote)..King is shooting 61% from 3 point range, that is unheard of, especially at the rate in which he lets them fly from deep.  The kid is only shooting 9% higher from the foul line then he is from 3 and he is shooting a solid 70& from the FT line. They are both great players, I am not arguing that Short isnt that, just I think king is more valuable to his team and more of the POY at this point in the season, all I am saying

odacfan1225

i completely respect your post odachoops  didnt want you to think it was an attack on you or anything,  i just give short a slight lead and in the end give it to him because i believe rmc will have a better record and because he is a senior but there is no doubt in my mind king will win next year if not now

DenbowsRoomie

Thanks for the link Jim -- the Roomie is still following the ODAC and it's always great to get the details of the great conference "institutions" like Coach Moir.

In other news, Roomie now works at Georgetown University, where he helps manage the intramural sports program on campus.  As one perk of the job, I get to work scorer's table positions for a handful of Hoyas home games at the Verizon Center -- including some big games (Syracuse, Louisville, etc.).  While I refuse to make the switch to Hoyas fandom (Lets Go Mountaineers!!!!), I do enjoy watching some high quality hoops.

Speaking of high-quality hoops, I'm liking what I'm seeing from Lexington so far.  There's been some rough spots (22% shooting at Nininger -- OUCH), but I'm really liking the depth that's developing, especially in the front court.  On any given night, between White, Owens, Heller & Goetsch, someone different is stepping up to be the man.  The Gennies will need that kind of balance to replace the likes of Bienemann and Femi.

My ODAC knowledge has dipped over the years so I'm not sure what to expect from the typical ODAC powers over the season, but I think now that the Gennies have tasted their best season in 20 years, they won't be in any hurry to slide back to mediocrity.

Go Generals!
