Jacketlawyer, there's a great picture in this morning's Times Dispatch Sport section of Jordon Brown being fouled(a take down) from behind by Sydney's Ben Jessee. Both arms are completely wrapped around Brown's upper body, no attempt to go for the ball. Fortunately an intentional foul was called and the Sydney player looked baffled as to why. Great game, though. Sydney really took it to us in the first three quarters of the game.

So I read.  Heard it took a 24-9 run at the end to close them down.  I'll check the link!  Appreciate it! ;)

Heard through the radio broadcast of last nights rmc hsc game that it was "one of if not the worse student body/fan turnouts in a looong time"..I thought the rmc students were back in school? Why such the low turnout? Again I wasnt there, just curious

Kudos to Jordan Brown for keeping his cool despite looking rattled by that flagrant foul from behind... probably due to his defender's inexperience in that environment. Brown's defensive reach really showed last night and several other 2nd year players had great games last night.

And congrats to Justin Short, the ODAC's first Player of the Week, who played his last R-MC/H-SC game at home and led the team well last night.  Maybe the lack of any coverage in his home town paper on game day inspired him!

Last night was the Jackets' 5th of 12 games won by 20 or more points this season.  But I'm sure coaches and players all know that it gets even tougher from here on out!  GO JACKETS!!!!!

Regarding the turnout, many R-MC students travel abroad during January term.  The gym was packed tight... you should have been there!

The H-SC/R-MC final score certainly was not indicative of how the game was played. A very entertaining game until about the 6 minute mark. There were some great plays over the course of the game...H-SC's Colin O'Neill had a thunderous tip-dunk in the first half which served as one of the highlights of the game. Brandon Braxton was the x-factor for the Jackets with 16 and 13.

As far as the intentional foul on Brown, Ben Jessee certainly was not trying to hurt Jordan, rather used poor judgement on his method of fouling...but what is a rivalry without some "chippiness" ;) By the way, Jessee was pretty impressive in his first H-SC/R-MC affair, tallying 14 points and going 6-6 from the foul line.

The anticipated battle between Turner King and Justin Short never really materialized due to the good defensive game plans of both Vick and Rhoades. Macon deployed their usual physical style, keeping Boris Varela and Jordan Brown in King's chest all night (King still did well to score 15). The Tigers countered with Jon Mudd and a few other on Short, holding Short to 14 points on 5-16 shooting. Both King and Short displayed their other dimensions, however, with King grabbing 7 rebounds and Short dishing 6 assists - these two are the best two players in the ODAC.

Again, 79-59 does not give the game justice. As far as the crowd goes, it was a packed house, but I sure did miss the R-MC student section that is famous for hounding H-SC from tip to final buzzer! Certainly adds an extra dimension.

BC and Shenandoah tied at 75 going into OT #2.
Brandon Bryan made  2 FT's to put the Hornets up by 1 with 3.3 seconds left.
Bryan fouled Trawick with one second left. Trawick missed the first and made the second to send it to OT #2.

Shenandoah 82, Bridgewater 79 FINAL Double OT.

Trawick missed a 3 with about 2 seconds left on the clock.
Wayne Washington got an offensive rebound on a free throw and was fouled with about 9 second left. He then made both FT's for SU.

When I came back in from making a phone call at the half  I noticed "Sold Out" signs on the doors. ODACHOOPS must have been listening to Sydney broadcasters, for HSC was poorly represented as far as fan support. Pity.

Yes, the game was much closer than the final score might indicate, 5 points at 7:46 left in the second half, that's close! I thought Coach Vick did a marvelous job by calling time-outs whenever it  appeared the Jackets were starting to roll.

As far as Jessee's foul on Brown....well, I'm just glad Jordan was not injured. I do not believe that was the intent but there is always a threat of some kind of injury in that type of fouling situation.

Sounds as though BC had a chance to win in the first OT but couldn't make both FTs.  Shenandoah is a hard team to figure - they got some upsets last seasons.  Games like this take a lot out of players/coaches - and fans.  Hopefully, the Eagles can shake it off before Saturday.

You are so right, HSCFan, the final score is really not indicative of much more than that the game is over.

It was a lively contest throughout, with moments of brilliance and despair on both ends.

Good luck to all the teams competing this weekend!

ODACHOOPS

yj424...Actually it was the rmc broadcast that I was listening to and they didn't make the comment that there was a weak crowd turn-out,(even though that game is "sold out" every year so having signs on the door saying that doesn't surprise me at all. I do however know rmc's gym does not hold anywhere near 2400 people, so the attendance estimate was definitely off)  anyways..the comment was the student section turnout just wasn't the same lively aggressive group that is has been in years past.  Very disappointing to hear that since it was a Monday night game and students were back in class, Jan term aside.  And if you know anything about that rivalry you know that the home team gives the visitors maybe 100 tickets total. and that's for family, administration, alumni ect..so not having a great hsc turnout shouldn't be a "pity" to anyone..ive been to both rmc hsc games at both home gyms and you should see the weak student section turnout of rmc fans at hsc on a Saturday game know excuses like their are on Monday night game.

Glad to hear the score doesn't do justice though, was worried from the looks of it that hsc got beaten down pretty good.

Wow ... this would be much easier to understand if it were spelled correctly.
