Let me end all the talk of financial assistance for EMU...Here is the scoop...I will start off by saying that I have done some official re-search to bring clarity to
the board of d3hoops... I found that EMU does in fact offer a
minority grant which is available to African Americans,
Hispanic/Latino American, Native American, and Asian American.  It is
potentially available to all these folks and being an athlete has
absolutely nothing to do with it.  The grant is also NEED BASED!!  So
if  the individual does not have significant financial need
(according to FAHSA) then the student would not even qualify
regardless of ethnicity.  The grant also is based on a minimum GPA so
any student minority student considered for it MUST meet a GPA
requirement.  Finally, and proably most importantly from a
comparision to other ODAC schools standpoint....if a student
qualifies for the most money they can possible recieve via this
grant(high need $ minority kids) it still costs the student in the
neighborhood of 10,000 per year to attend EMU.  So here is the
reality:  this particular kid proably does recieve the best package
that EMU can offer and it STILL it is only an average package when compared
to the huge academic scholarships and grants offered by
opposing schools with huge endowements (which is most of the ODAC).  No
one from EMU is crying about these facts because they are what
they are...however, for someone to make it sound like EMU has some sort
of recruiting advantage based on financial aid....nothing could be farther
from the truth.

That's all I can say about that....I have the facts and just laid them all on the table.. When EMU was       3-22 a few years ago, they had the same financial aide packages....But now they are climbing the ladder, all the sudden its not the coaching staff that is crushing some schools, its the financial aide??????  It is what it is guys.>>>>>>>>   Let's talk BBALL

Gotta go with STH on this line.  Too early.

As much of an R-M fan as I am, I remember when LC knocked us out of the first round of the ODAC tournament nearly three years ago.  I think it was about that time that I stopped talking trash about sports.  All sports.

Jacketlawyer,

Be careful using the words, "Gotta go with STH on this line."  While he may occasionally type something that is true, it is not a good idea to encourage him or to agree with him (to protect your credibility).

Scottie,

I just had to get the shot in! :D

Thanks Brian!!  Will be more careful in the future. ;)

I enjoy STH's postings, though.  He's a fellow Lynchburg resident as well!! ;D

I don't know that I would make any claims just based on residence in Lynchburg.  After all, Jerry Falwell is a resident of Lynchburg.  So is my mother-in-law.  I could go on.   :)

BUT, don't forget, Rik Smits used to specially order his socks from some person in Lynchburg (I don't know if he still does).  I heard that when watching the Pacers play one day when the NBA was still being broadcasted on NBC!

Jacketlawyer

Yeah, I've had to hear about ole Jerry for most of my life!!  After all this time, you just build up an immunity!! 8)

What I meant by "Lynchburg resident," is that there's not that much to do here.  STH WILL back me up on this one.  It'd be a family towny anyway, regardless of the shadow cast upon it by THE buckle of the Bible belt.  So, consequently, DIII sports are followed here. . . . frantically.

All towns toot their own horn of civic pride incessantly, but please tell me this isn't listed in a brochure from the Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce!  Rik Smits "stepped" here!  lol

It should attract the millions of Rik Smits fans in the RIk Smits Fan Club to the Lynchburg area! Imagine all that extra money that would come in!

Well, I suppose it could be worse - South Carolina has Bob Jones University, so Greenville was already "taken" when Jerry was looking around.  By the way, I drove through Liberty U. about 2 years ago just out of sheer morbid curiosity.  Do they still just have the one mega-hall classroom building (plus the divinity school, of course) or have they built a more traditional campus?  Oh, and what's up with the dorms? ... the Quonset Hut motif made me think I was at Parris Island!

Not familiar with the campus much at all, but they did recently build these sweet dorms across the 460 bypass and built an underroad tunnel so kids wouldnt die trying to cross the 460 bypass. The Tunnel takes you right to the side/back of the Vines Center.

Warren,
Parke reads my stuff about as often as Ann reads your stuff.  :)

Learning on an NBA broadcast that Lynchburg is the place from which Rik Smits orders his socks?   As noted by ladyeagle, Bobby Knight had a point about the wasteland that is the NBA on television.  I don't know that I would go so far as preferring to watch frogs mating, but I guess we all know that sex sells.
