Scottie .....  At least two of the three HSC radio announcers at tonight's game regularly read this board, so I'm sure that they'll appreciate your applause.

Wow, what another tough loss suffered by the Royals tonight against VWC! It was a great defensive battle in the first half as EMU held the Marlins to 20 pts in the first half and an 11 point lead at the break.  A few things that stick out to me from the first half.....twice EMU weren't able to convert on lay-ups (somewhat contested) and VWC came right down in transition and scored lay-ups. So you could say that's an 8-0 swing there. Plus, EMU fouled a 3 point shooter and he converted that for a 4 point play. I thought the lead at halftime could have def. been larger. Second half was lights out shooting from the Marlins. EMU did a nice job too shooting over 50 percent from the field but the Marlins got back in the game from behind the 3-point line. The Marlins hit 5-8 from behind the arch and EMU didn't make their first until OT.  The difference in OT was that the Marlins got to the fouline twice as many times as the Royals and EMU cooled off from the field even though we had twice as many attempts from the field as VWC. Even though all of the losses have been very tight games against Shenandoah, Roanoke, and now VWC, I'm sure it's been a learning experience for the team and will only prepare them even more as the ODAC season progresses. I know Coach Dean and his staff will have the guys ready to go when they travel down to Ashland to take on Macon. Even though it's another tough loss to swallow here in Harrisonburg, I'm excited from what I am seeing from this team and the program Kirby is putting together. Keep up the hard work!

Looks like Ari Paschal stepped it up.  For those who don't know the name, he is probably one of the most promising natural athletes VWC has.  He can jump out of the gym but I don't think he has realized how good he can be.  Macedo and Co. thought he had a lot of promise last year as a freshman but he didn't pan out behind Fitch, Sumpter, Young, Balenga and Tucker.  If this is a sign of times to come,  you can add another extremely talented guard to a deep Marlin team when it comes to guard play.  But...Adair is going to be needed to help jumpstart this very talented Marlin team.  Huge win for the struggling Marlins.....

Bridgewater really struggled again tonite.  Despite only losing by 8, Roanoke was never really in trouble.  Everytime BC looked like they had any chance to make a run Jared Butler would knock down a shot.  He was amazing tonite.  Plays so calm out there and doesnt force shots.  BC just doesnt have someone who can take over a game.  Josh Fox was trying at points in the second half, but noone can really take the ball and get a key basket at any point.  Leatherman is still trying to find the right combination, especially trying to find a steady point guard other than Maupin so he can look for his shot more.  BC will get better, but the fact is that its gonna be a rebuilding year.  THey wont fall down and die, but they are gonna have to win these home games to have any chance.

Huge win for the Generals before the holiday break.  Last year the Gennies had to wait until after New Years for their first win, and as it turned out, their only wins were in their hosted tourney.  At this point, any ODAC win is big.

My diagnosis from a couple days ago rang true.  Even though the Generals had more TOs, they finally beat a team on the boards, despite giving up size to guys like Ben Strong.  Femi Kusimo is proving himself to be a reliable rebounder because of his insane leaping ability.

Obviously Hutch is not going to like that Guilford came back from 27 down.  But a win is a win is a win, and this team deserves one for all the frustration of the past season.

and now that W&L has notched a win (albeit only one), it's not too early to talk about W&L's ODAC tourney chances.  Lynchburg and E&H look beatable, and I personally think W&L can knock off Bridgewater and Roanoke at home.  A 7th or 8th seed is really not a stretch for the talent the W&L has...

Manos goes 0-10 for Lynchburg:

However, there are bigger problems in Lynchburg:

I never liked Carl "Corrupt" Hutcherson! I never would have voted for that bum had I been abe to, but the city wants to be susceptable to corruption by letting the city council be the only one able to vote for mayor.

Things that i find surprising from the LC-HSC box score:
-We didn't get our ass kicked on the boards
-we shot 45% overall and 80% from FT, both pretty good numbers, but only 14.3%. Luckily to beat E&H we probably wont have to be taking 3s.
-Manos 0-10, held scoreless. i cnat remember the alst time that happened!
-Big Pete had 17 points. Looks like he's finally getting things donme the way we knew he eventually would be able to. He should be a lock for the starting lineup for the rest of the season.
-Sweeney only got one minute. HSC announcers speulated he's injured, but unless something happened between poractice on tuesday and the game, he's not injured. So i don't know what the deal is with that.

Have there been "philosophical differences" between Sweeney and your coach in the past?  Enquiring minds want to know.  :)

From the play-by-play, it seems it was an extremely slow start for both teams.  It took Lynchburg and Hampden-Sydney nearly six minutes to get beyond two points each.

Not that i'm aware of.

not much movement in the "pick'ems"... a lot of 2-2's ...seems those that liked Bridgewater also liked VWC and the group that liked the Maroons seemed to matriculate to EMU...interesting... justafan02 did slip in a 3-1 mark last night missing only the Gennies big win!

Congrats to Jim's Maroons on a big ODAC road win last night. Youth, youth and more youth. The Eagles will get better and hopefully the 3 week break will allow them to work on defensive intensity and rebounding...areas that hurt last night.  Roanoke is a good team and plays very well in Nininger Hall as a rule! It's time for the experienced Eagle players to step up and take control of this team. The newbies are settling in and contributing, but its time for Michael, Butler, Maupin, Drewer, etc. to take charge!

Manos didn't appear to play well against GC in Greensboro last week - eight points, I think.

... and a disappointing loss for the Quakers before the holiday break ... it's a long time to wait - and think - before their next game on Dec. 29th.  Congratulations again to the Generals, but I didn't see it coming for W&L to build such a big lead before winning.  Quakers had 65 in the 2nd half, but only 27 in the 1st half.  Sigh!

I know sometimes you lose to teams that are just shooting lights out, and maybe that happend to BC last night.  Obviously Roanoke played very well.  Anytime you shoot 64% from beyond the arc, 89% from the line, and commit only 12 turnovers, especially on the road, you have an excellent chance to win the game.  The Eagles now go and have some time off until they go to a tournament in Georgia right before New Year's.  They better rest up and/or work on their game over the break, because after the tournament, three of their first four are home against Macon, at H-SC, and at VWC.  The other game is home against Lynchburg, which of course is not an automatic.  Having to play the top 3 teams, according to preseason polls, in four games, two on the road, isn't easy for anyone.  Let alone a team as young as the Eagles.  Hopefully the time away will do them well.

Generally Tim - don't jinx us!

Last night I was praying that the Gennies could hold on when we're up 27 and I nearly had a stroke when Bienemann fouled out and we were up 2 after the FT's. So even though I agree with you - it's 1 game at a time.
