Congrats to the Quakers on a hard fought and well-deserved win.  Last years experience has certainly helped this team.  Hopefully they can enact some revenge on UT-D for the earlier loss.  It would be great to see another ODAC team in the Final Four!

So, in the past 10 years (1999-2008), these are the 10 conferences in Division III that have been to the Final Four more than once:

NESCAC - 7 Final Fours - Connecticut College, 1999; Williams, 2003; Williams, 2004; Amherst, 2004; Amherst, 2006; Amherst, 2007; Amherst, 2009
ODAC - 4 Final Fours - Hampden-Sydney, 1999; Hampden-Sydney, 2003; Virginia Wesleyan, 2006; Virginia Wesleyan 2007
UAA - 4 Final Fours - Rochester, 2002; Rochester, 2005; Washington U, 2007; Washington U, 2008
WIAC - 4 Final Fours - UW-Platteville, 1999; UW-Eau Claire, 2000; UW-Stevens Point, 2004; UW-Stevens Point, 2005
CCIW - 3 Final Fours - Illinois Wesleyan, 2001; Carthage, 2002; Illinois Wesleyan, 2006
MIAA - 3 Final Fours - Calvin, 2000; Calvin, 2005; Hope, 2008
NCAC - 3 Final Fours - Wooster, 2003; Wittenberg, 2006; Wooster, 2007
OAC - 3 Final Fours - Ohio Northern, 2001; Otterbein, 2002; John Carroll, 2004
CAC - 2 Final Fours - Catholic 2001; York (PA), 2005
Centennial - 2 Final Fours - Franklin and Marshall, 2000; Ursinus, 2008

All Final Four participants during the past 10 years have been Nfrom these 10 conferences except for the following 4 teams: Salem State, 2000; William Paterson, 2001; Elizabethtown, 2002; Gustavus Adolphus, 2003

There are eight teams left in 2009, four of which will go to Salem.  They include
ODAC - Guilford
UAA - Washington U.
Centennial - Franklin and Marshall

Teams not from the conferences named above (that include 36 of the 40 Final Four participants of the last 10 years): UT-Dallas, Farmingdale State, DeSales, Richard Stockton, Puget Sound

So, if Guilford makes it to the Final Four, it would be 3 ODAC trips in the last 4 years, 4 ODAC trips in the last 7 years, and 5 ODAC trips in the last 11 years!

ODAC is strong year in year out. Conference posters - who do you like in tonight's game and why?

Yeah, it will be a mess next year.   ;D

Meanwhile, we've got two beach-thug pedigree coaches meeting up in Ohio.

Or, maybe that stereotype doesn't really hold water.

Whatever, the ODAC has been great prep for Guilford for this.  The grind-you-into-the-dirt-and-the-gym-with-the-hex-on-it style of Roanoke, the high competence style of RMC, the we'll-intimidate-you-if-we-possibly-can style of VWC, the army of fit guys style of H-SC, the we-try-harder style of W&L, the wild pace style of E&H, and on and on.

Question is can we play in a gym that isn't full of rabid opposing fans?  I think so.
I know we're better than when we played UT-D early in the season.

I think we are, too.  The question, though, is whether UT-D is better than when they played Guilford early in the season?

I'll be providing courtside updates of tonight's game in the ASC In-Game Updates room, for those interested.

UTD 35 - 25 in the second half.  A defensive struggle, very few fouls called, not a single three dropped for Guilford so far.

#9938
UTD is taking off and Guilford needs to start hitting some 3s.  (The Quakers are 0 for 8 from behind the arc.)  At this point, UTD has a 12-point lead with only 10 minutes left.  Sanborn misses 2 free throws and possession goes to UTD again.

Still 12 points down, 48-36, with 7:38 to play.  The Quakers need to start hitting some.

algernon

Trading baskets, but the Quakers are trimming the lead a little.  With 4:03 to go, Guilford is now down by a score of 50 to 41.

algernon

Bonner hits one at 2:50, UT-Dallas turns the ball over, and Bonner hits another one at 2:23.  The Quakers are down by only 5 points!

algernon

Anderson commits a foul but Dallas misses the FT and Anderson gets the rebound, gets fouled, and hits both!  Guilford now down by 3 points with 1:50 to play.  UT-Dallas has the ball.

algernon

Brandon Greene hits a 3 for UT-Dallas and Henson hits a 3 for Guilford.  UT-Dallas has a 3-point lead and the ball.  Guilford calls time out, with 59 seconds to play.

1 point game with about 15 seconds left
